To further show the lack of thought in your spew... once we shrink back our forces to just inside the US border and remove our overseas presence...
the Middle East decides to shut off oil to the US.
You think we can just go over there and take it? All our forces will be in CONUS.
The "bad guys" will simply line up ships about 100 miles off the shores of the US and shoot down the planes full of troops that you think we can send over there to take the oil back.

we will have entrenched ourselves in North America and be essentially shut off from the rest of the world because our enemies will have control the the air and sea and barricaded us to our little playpen.

I disagree. It's time to evolve before it is too late.

Just so I'm clear,

You are saying that if the military does not maintain an overseas prescence, no harm will come to the US and its interests overseas?

Oddly, with you being of such superior intellect and not needing to participate in the military - I haven't exactly been blown away by your thoughts and ability to convey your thoughts on the topic.

I really don't know how many times I have to explain my position. It's very clear. We need to bring the troops home for many reasons. We should be protecting our borders. We should maintain a standing army. We need to continue to monitor situations around the world and intervene when absolutely necessary. Will harm come to interests around the world? I'm sure at times that would occur. We would need to determine if it's worth a response. It's time that the US stops being the world's police force. You need to work with your allies and talk with your enemies. If we continue on the path we are on, it will be all over.

You say you served 77-81. How many bullets did you "jump in front of"? Where? When?

They used fake bullets back then? I guess the c-4 was fake I used back then. I never said I was in Vietnam? So, since there was not any conflict, my service should not count? Is that what your saying cowboy?

What values? To invade countries for no reason other than to gain access to oil? Give me a break.

You continue your anti-american rant but in reality this debate is over your head. In fact I care about the kids in this country where you want them dead for no reason at all. How is that anti-american?

Another point to make here. So this is America, right? And you want me run out of a gambling forum? Isn't America the land of the free? So you want me banned because I would rather the young kids of this country actually go to school instead of being killed for no reason? Awesome logic there. Freedom of speech. Learn it.

Don't ever forget ....."dissent is the highest form of patriotism."

I think gw has reminded me of one of my favorite quotes......

"America. Just a nation of two hundred million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns and no qualms about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable." -Hunter S. Thompson

Our liberties are not being protected by killing people across the world.

This country might have been founded on something you belief in but those beliefs are long gone. And its about time you start educating yourself and seeing that for yourself. This is not 1776.

I have no doubt about that. :mj07:

I know some of you don't like Chomsky but I hope that everyone would listen to this short clip. This is a great example of how brain washed people are.

<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/G7DdWmWUa_8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

You're damn right it is. Remember when you put it in your signature and you thought I would deny it? Why did I not deny it? Because its true.

In case you haven't realized this, i'm an American. Once again i'm an American. I simply believe that our young kids should not be killed for no reason. And right away you think i'm some foreign terrorist. What the fuck is wrong with you?

And what would hygiene have to do with anything? You are so blind to what is going on it is beyond sad. Go back and read what you posted in this quote. You are some big time issues.

Oh and gw our country does not abide by international law. Give me a break. You must be on drugs.

Please explain.

"Everyone?s worried about stopping terrorism. Well, there?s really an easy way. Stop participating in it."

This is what we are up against. No response to this.

Good. It should make you sick. It makes me sick too.

<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gf1CDmn8q0M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Sorry. I just about fell out of my chair. You better learn English before you even think about trying to write a book. That could be the funniest thing that I have ever read on this board.

That is if you made it out alive. So do you really think all that time in combat was worth your life? I'm sure you saw many others die. Do you think it was worth it to them? And for what? Nothing.

So you are saying giving doggie respect is sicker than the people that have lost their lives for nothing? Nice.

As for doggie, it takes guts to do what he did. No doubt. But in retrospect he was lucky to make it out alive. The risks these young kids take for no reason at all is simply not worth it.

I'm still curious what these beliefs are?

Marine,
There is no doubt the military does good as well. You can't expect them to go around doing terrorist activities 24/7, can you? The question is how much bad comes with the good? And is it worth it to us these days?

We should have a military. But we should not be occupying other countries. We have over 700 military bases around the world. And those are just the ones they tell us about. We should be protecting our borders.

Now you are being ridiculous. I have no problem defending the country with military actions when necessary. The problem is the military has gotten out of control. If you can't see that, there really is no point.

I would suggest that lawmakers actually conduct military operations as if their own kids were on the front lines. Then we would actually be fighting only when it was needed and not when it was just profitable.

Don't they have libraries in the military? I wish you would have picked up a book during your tour.

I'm sure you are very intelligent. Maybe you should write a book too.

As for me being a pussy? It's not like you are fighting some asshole in a bar. You are risking your life for 30K a year against forces that would do anything to kill you. Forces that would do anything. Car bombings, landmines, you name it. I went to a military funeral awhile ago for a kid that was killed by a fucking landmine. Yeah, i'll pass on that. Thanks anyway though.

...and that is what these tools don't get? He didn't even read through the whole thread. He just got his panties in a bunch about someone attacking the military. These aren't even wars that should be fought.

What is with the lame jokes? You act like you are 10. I would hope that you learned better jokes when you were serving than that.

As for gw, you should go back and take a look at our conversation. Seeing things only through one side make you a tool and a sheep to the establishment.

No, the point is that you are being used. This country is run by corporations. There is nothing to fight for.

A disgrace to humanity and a poster child for the benefits to a higher education (or any education for that matter).

You don't even understand what we are debating.

As I thought.

I say it all the time. Normally it is to soldiers that are actually intelligent enough to understand the debate.

It's the truth. The rich have been using the poor for years. It's always been the truth but its even worse these days. Anyone who would sign up at this point needs to have their head examined.

Tell me again who you are?

I'm sure you did. I respect soldiers for sacrificing their willingness to risk their lives but for what? They are flat out being used. Especially today. These bullshit wars are a fucking joke.

This is another classic post. Do you realize that you are not helping your cause by posting. :mj07:

That is true, but at least I know how to spell proven.

You are simply playing semantics.

Besides everyone knows Hawaii still is not a US state. Just ask skul.

We also had military bases there. If a military base of ours is attacked, we should defend it. The military base is just like a piece of US territory.

At least make an attempt to have an intellectual debate instead of playing games.

If we have a base we should protect. My point is that we SHOULDNT have these bases all over the world. What is so difficult? You are not helping yourself.

So if you want to play games, i'll play games. What about McCain? John McCain was born on a US base in Panama. Using your example he couldn't run for POTUS. Oh but he did! Why? Because the base was considered US territory.

I'll risk it. We are already getting weaker everyday for spending the money we do on defense. When we need to intervene, we always can. Another benefit to leaving the middle east would be a reduction in terrorist activity.

As for the oil, when the oil runs out I have no doubt we will take what we want. At this point in time its doing us no good to have 750 bases all over the globe. The GOP won't even agree to tax increases and they want the war machine to continue? Someone has to pay at some point.

I disagree. It's time to evolve before it is too late.

I see the intellectuals are coming out tonight. :mj07:

I really don't know how many times I have to explain my position. It's very clear. We need to bring the troops home for many reasons. We should be protecting our borders. We should maintain a standing army. We need to continue to monitor situations around the world and intervene when absolutely necessary. Will harm come to interests around the world? I don't know anything about Betones time in the Corps, nor have I seen his 201 File, but listen up "Chairborne Ranger" Marines are shit magnets ! They are in first and out last, most of the time... there are hostile actions that take place that never show up on the radar, so there are things that you don't need to know.

Just because the greatest duty you have done for this country was hanging out at the back gate at Ft Benning and "Badge Hunting" doesn't mean you know a fucking thing about what Men and Women of Honor, Valor and Duty have done.

Dude. I clicked on the Heritage link and this caught my eye:

"The Department of Defense (DOD) does not track family income data for recruits, and there are no individual income data for enlistees. Military service is the first full-time job for most of them. We approximate each recruit's household income by using the median household income of his or her hometown ZIP code."

I guess we can just make shit up.

I'll go ahead and agree that the middle class is well represented, but guess which end of the middle class is it? It ain't the end with Management Level parents, it is the one where the parents combine to make one crappy/mediocre living.

I don't understand, I guess. I don't want Americans stationed in a place where they are slowly picked off by a group of religious fanatics that think we are the devil. If we have to fight, we should use our technological advantage to do so. If we would have dropped a nuke on the middle east after 9/11 and said another 2 will be coming if there is even a hint of retaliation, the people of that region would have strung up the trouble makers before they could do any more harm to us.....if they didn't after the first bomb, they would eventually have to or they'd be wiped off the planet. The fact that we ever set foot in that area after 9/11 is a fucking joke. I don't want to risk American lives, sorry if that is un-American to some of you, but as an atheist, I respect life. If someone threatens it, they pay dearly. It may sound like a mixed message, but it makes perfect sense if you think it through.

I completely agree with your statement about using our technological advantage.
