My favourite day in sports gambling is Saturday's 127th Running of the Roses. I've had some big winners in the past Alysheba,Spend A Bunck and Sunny's Halo.
note those were in the '80's. The 90's have not been very kind to me.
This Saturday my early lean is to Dollar Bill.
Several reasons:
1. Price
2. Fits experimental handicap profile
3. Is being overlooked by the betting public. Opened at 6-1 in future wagering, now 10-1. Derby winners usually pay better the day of the race than in any future book odds.
4. Finished fairly well in last start on a track favouring speed.
5. Is just outside the Beyer range of 105. His best Beyer to date is 102 so he may be coming to his best.
6. Pat Day has won and knows how to win.
7. Did I mention price.
Let's kick some ass.

I looked at him a little bit.
You are right the distance shouldn't be a problem but is he fast enough. Best beyer is a 94 in LA Derby.
I like him at the price in my triple but I think has very little chance to win.

Hes got to have a perfect trip and if he does i think he gobbles up a lot of ground late down the stretch. Colt has a very big kick and just ran out of room in the Lone Star Derby. he should be a nice price. I will definetely put him in the exotics.

Drat the luck of the draw.I was liking Millenium Wind to set pace but got stuck with 2nd to last choice and had to take the 2 hole. While he may have speed to clear he better have temperment to sit in gate while the rest load,a feat in itself.Post has severely downgraded my hopes for him.

Point Given drew a bad post-he wont have to sit in gate very long. Hes going to have to get position before the 1st turn or be caught 10-wide. Will include him in the exocits but definetely not to win at 9/5 breaking from Post 17.

Proline - one good turn deserves another mate.
Thanx for your support in the "Off the Wall" forum; I'm happy to climb aboard Dollar Bill at 9s.
Sound reasoning and value = my kinda bet.
And I hate to sound like friggin Visionary here

but as I was toodling round in my vehicle today my tape deck was belting out one fine song by the Screaming Trees (love those big Connor boys!) entitled ...."Dollar Bill".
Gonna ride this baby till its knees buckle

Does anyone know who qualifies as this yr's Dosage Index horses?

Anyone who has capped the Derby before will have some familiarity w/ what I'm referring to.

Thx and GL.

There are three dual qualifiers this year Point Given, A P Valentine and Dollar Bill.

This year, only Express Tour (5.67), Fifty Stars (4.82) and Millennium Wind (5.33) do not qualify. However, Millennium Wind is a half-brother to Charismatic (who also was ''over'' on dosage) and is by the distance-oriented stallion Cryptoclearance.

good reading on dosage http://www.chef-de-race.com/dosage/review.htm

DTB, I am shocked by the early $$$ on Dollar Bill. I am glad I played him in future wagering Thursday @ 10-1.
Point Given sure looks like a beautiful animal.
$1 tri 10-9,16,17,-9,16,17 and 9,16,17-10-9,16,17.
Let's hope for a clean race no matter who wins.
May all our wagers be winning ones.

The Derby
Hardest race there is to cap but would be unpatriotic to pass.Large field, young horses and none going 10fl before make it an educated quess at best and many of contenders having early foot make it that much harder.
As noted before I was really liking Millenium Wind before draw. He has beaten several of these convincingly 20 days ago at Keeneland (Song&Prayer,A.P,$Bill, and Invisable Ink,all top notch horses.
He is now pitted against several with early speed of which 2 are a concern. The 1st Balto Star who has run impressively at great #'s but beaten no one of value. The 2nd Congaree who I believe is better than Point Given but pitted against all the early speed and lack of racing experience (4 races) is a concern.
Am discounting Song and Prayer as Millinenium gain 3 3/4 lenghs in final fl in Bluegrass.
Debated on Congaree or Point Given as key and opted for PG cuase os all the speed and I like his post.He is only horse in race in which havoc at the start should not be concern. Will add two longshots I think might pop,Fifty Stars and Thunder Blitz and bet $1 tri keying Point Given in all 3 slots with the 2,4,5,8 at cost of $36

I am going to put $500 dead on the nose of point given if he is at even money or better 10 minutes before post. I realize many a talented horse has lost in the derby. NOT THIS YEAR MY FRIENDS..

GOOD LUCK TO ALL..............

Pro You did right going on $Bill early. He will be bet down by the local Churchill-Pat Day factor.

won't they still pay the track odds no matter what you played them for at a sportsbook?

just wondering. i have no idea but will be having some action today for sure.

MJ in future wagering you get the price you wager on BUt if the horsae scratches you lose.
DTB I like Point Given but my heart has been set on Dollar Bill since March. I read a capper advising someone go with his convictions.
I am playing an exacta box of 10-17.

Jack Pro is correct if you bet early futures you will get odds posted, however if I bet him today at OTB I would get track odds and KY folks are nortorious for betting Day if he was riding Mr Ed.Another great point by Pro was going with ones convictions. NEVER get off horse you like to play someone elses cause while you may be a little peeved if your horse does not win and others does but it will ruin your whole day if visa versa. Will never forget the day several years ago when at Churchill with this young sweet thing and she was going to bet $5 on horse cause it had same name of her cat.Trying to impress
rolleyes.gif
I told her to keep her money and I would pay her if the nag won.You know the rest of the story---paid 86 dollars and change to win.(gulp)

Gonna bet a couple tri's on undercards.
race 3 grade 2 stks
9-1,4,5,10 and 1,4,5,10-9-1,4,5,10 cost $24
Race 7 Grade 1 stks
6-1,4,5 and 1,4,5-6-1,4,5 cost $12
-----and what was that I said bout not getting caught up in derby fever

DTB, great story. Last year betting the Breeder's Cup,the wife of one of my friends plays the 6 horse WP every in every race and came home up 25 units.
The year Alphabet Soup won the Breeders Cup I had the tri on a quick pick ticket.
Some days it just doen't pay to cap. LOL
