A buddy of mine plays this "system" every year, and swears by it.

The plot is very simple, and actually makes a little sense.
The NBA has some pretty volitile swings, and the short spread in games doesn't seem to come into play that much.
Here's the skinny:
Take any dog of 5 or less points on the money line
The theory is that the dog wins a good share of these games, so you might as well get the +105 to +160 or so, that you can take, right?
Tonight we have two of three games fitting the mold to start the season, so let's see how it shakes out!
Kings +175 (+5)
Nuggets +125 (+2')
For math sake, we will risk $100 each game.
