ok, Bellchick in my estimation is the best defensive coach in NFL, with 14 guys on injured list 8 starters, Patriots have still gone 6-2 with the chance to get 7 victory tonight and bye next week when they get everyone back except Roosevelt Colvin. That said I considered Shanahan probably the best offensive Coach in NFL with exception of Dick V with your chiefs.
Denver however has been historically vulnerable on defense, new defensive coordinator COYER has tightened up this defense nicely. However GOLD AND MOBLEY ARE OUT. somewhat weakening their run defense. Wilson however is still capable of limiting rush yards and this is a area New England has struggled all year. Denver Defense ranks #2 only behind Dallas.
Although New England has won 4 St. they are no offensive juggernaut. #20 overall, 16 rushing, 19 passing.
Last week Kevin Fualk distance himself in the running back by committee that New England has been using With Antoine Smith & Mike Cloud. Faulk had careers numbers with 23 carries & 96 yards. Much different from the 2.0ypc average against Miami the week prior. Even with the emergence of a running game for New England & the 2 linebackers out for Denver, I give the edge to Broncos with New England running, although I think Bellchick will test that defense lots running.
New England loves to move the ball via the short pass, however Troy Brown is injured, everyone said he is OUT, however he did make the trip, I'm not sure how much if at all he can contribute. David Patton is still pretty limited with the ankle injury although he is listed as questionable, with injuries he is going to have to play. Dieon branch is hurting also, so is TE DANIEL GRAHAM. quite obviously Patriots are limited passing the football. Short passing attack is what offensive coordinator Charlie Weiss loves, Brady has not had a interception in last 140 attempts, so short passing is almost as sure as running the ball. Denver can pressure the quarterback pretty well with Pryce and company, and the secondary covers pretty well also, hence there #5 ranking.
I wouldn't expect Patriots to move the ball that effectively over the top for many long plays. They will probably try to get TE MATCHUPS WITH GRAHAM ON Denver second string linebackers due to injuries to GOLD & MOBILEY. also getting faul k & Cloud matched against those same LB' S. WILSON HAS 83 TACKLES ALREADY, THAT'S MORE THAN TWICE ANY OTHER DENVER DEFENDER, that type of effective run tackling will force Patriots to throw ball.
Obviously Denver is going to want to run the ball with limited #3 Dan ny Kannel at quarterback. Portis is as good as anyone, second behind only j Lewis in rushing yards this season. New England has been rock solid against the run this season not allowing any back over 100 yards this season. They stopped Ricky Williams under 100 with 27 carries, also stops Barber from New York & Travis Henry from Buffalo. With starting tackle Salamm out for Denver this will limit them somewhat. Without McCaffrey able to play (which I hear he is very limited), and Shannon sharp injury, along with inexperienced quarterback Denver offense should struggle immensely. With Bueski playing the run extremely well and Bellchick able to focus almost exclusively to stopping Denver running attack this week in practice, Broncos will struggle on offense.
You give a coach like Bellchick the ability to focus against a 1 dimensional offense like Denver has now, I guarantee Denver will struggle offensively. Last year Broncos beat New England at Gillette 24-17, largely because Greise passed for 240 yards completed 19/23. I can't see Kannel doing this.
I believe both teams have 21 sacks. Patriots have 12 interceptions & 10 fumble take aways. Rod Smith is still someone to contend with, but I can't see Kannel throwing over the top of Defense to be very effective.
Probably 2 best kickers in NFL with Denver kicker converting on 16 of 16 inside 50 yards.
INVESTCO FIELD LIKE GILLETTE is nowhere near as loud as previous stadiums, site lines are fantastic for crowd, but crowd is near there as close to playing field as previous stadiums. Broncos don't get huge mile high noise advantage as previous years.
Broncos 3-0 at home this season, and 6-2 against New England while coached by Shanahan.
Wayne, I'm running behind checking things because out my father, however if I could get a 3 I would play New England tonight. If they could go to Philly & Miami and get wins, they could tonight against limited Denver team.
