THE DROP is a new crime drama from Micha?l R. Roskam, the Academy Award nominated director of Bullhead. Based on a screenplay from Dennis Lehane (Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone), THE DROP follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) through a covert scheme of funneling cash to local gangsters - "money drops" in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (James Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood's past. Also featuring Noomi Rapace, Matthias Schoenaerts, Ann Dowd and John Ortiz. (C) Fox Searchlight

This is a really good localized crime drama situated in Brooklyn. But it's not just Brooklyn. It's one single bar and a small strip of a neighborhood. I really liked they decided to keep the setting small. You get a great feel for how these characters live in the short time you see them outside the focal point of the film through quick cuts and assumed interaction.

Tom Hardy is absolutely great. He's a very strong actor with a very strong look. No blinking at all. A real hard ass. As for the late James Gandolfini, he plays the classic failed gangster who had to succumb to a bigger threat. Now, he's struggling to get his name back to the level it once was. Noomi Rapace does a good job here, too. The aloof love interest and convenient neighbor.

This movie had good pacing, a great script and really didn't have much clutter. The entire time, you've got this feeling the character Hardy plays has something hidden underneath his exterior, but you can't quite put your thumb on it. The film certainly does it's best to try and give it away subtly, but you won't notice. Don't blink.

Was going to wait to comment but Hardy is my favorite actor and again does a fantastic job setting the pace. Best since Departed. I liked the small setting of the movie. Very well done.

Interesting movie. Acting was top notch. The only drip I had with the movie was the plot moved slower than a three-legged tortoise. Worth seeing for should.

I saw him in a movie called,"warrior"...I usually don`t watch sports movies because they`re almost always overwrought and overemotional.....this was no exception, but I have to say that hardy/joel Edgerton and old nick nolte were very, very good......

was it hokey?.....yes indeed...not "brian`s song" hokey, but it was douche chill inducing at certain points in the movie...still,the 3 actors really did an excellent job with the material...

definitely worth a watch if you like combat sports and some drama...

hardy`s solid...Edgerton is also pretty good...

449 reviews and 8.3 rating at imdb...that`s pretty solid...http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1291584/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_12
