As a life long fan of the Metropolitans, one thing I've learned, is that under the Wilpons control.....all reason flies out the door. Nothing they do should surprise the faithful.
Most of us don't feel they can reach the top under this regime, and quite frankly, we would all welcome a ownership change.....Freddie "Coupons" is NOT the answer.
I like the Stroman kid, bull dog like approach, with big stones...Good move IMHO
CinderBlock has probably worn out his welcome in Queens, obviously does not possess the deGrom dominance and never will.....and, even though Diaz is an adventure, he does have 22 saves.
I've always liked Wheeler who just cant seem to get through the one bad inning he usually has during most of his starts....I have seen too much of Vargas, who in spite of his recent success is just a 7 run first inning waiting to happen.
Cano has been average at best, a huge Bust at worst.....
Ramos has not provided the expected Bang at the plate, and has been a liability defensively...
There are positives though, Alonso is the goods, Rosario needs to get better defensively but, has provided offense and his ceiling is high..... Conforto is a pro and should hit 30 dingers this year and McNeil has emerged as a potential star and is damn fun to watch. Frazier has been workmanlike and JD Davis has been a surprise offensively despite his struggles at third
this said, they still have a good chance to challenge for the WC, and call me "Old School" but isn't the point to extend the season as long as you can?
Lord knows this team has embraced the Dysfunctional Approach to running an organization ( former Agent as GM...How in the Good Christ does that make sense) but it saddens me to have the team I and all my sons have supported thought of as a laughing stock around the league.
Can they go on a run? Hell , anything is possible right?
Hope can be both a God Send, and a curse.
