The mosque should be allowed at ground zero

Subject: Tolerance

I am perplexed that so many of my friends are against a mosque being built near Ground Zero. I think it should be the goal of every American to be tolerant. The mosque should be allowed, in an effort to promote tolerance.

That is why I also propose, that two gay nightclubs be opened next door to the mosque thereby promoting tolerance within the mosque.
We could call the Clubs "The Turban Cowboy" and "You Mecca Me So Hot."

Next door should be a butcher shop that specializes in pork and have an open BBQ with spare ribs as its daily special.

Across the street a very daring lingerie store called "Victoria Keeps Nothing Secret" with sexy mannequins in the window modeling the goods.

Next door to the lingerie shop, there would be room for an Adult Toy Shop, called "All Ah Need," in flashing neon lights.

If you agree in promoting tolerance and you think this is a good plan, pass it on.

It is more than a mosque, it is a community center with more things available than just a symbolic mosque, and it's not to be located AT Ground Zero, it's three blocks away, or so I've read.

Not that any of this matters to people who are xenophobic (which will probably zip over those heads anyway) and don't care about specifics or facts about a situation when they can merely ridicule and make a poorly phrased joke out of it.

But, yeah, it was funny... :sadwave:

Sorry for those that know all of the above. Some apparently still don't.

And, I don't find fault with those arguing about symbolism and about money trails and motivations. All good points deserving of discussion. Just the flippancy of the issue is what deserves attention from time to time. Or so I think, anyway.

Wayne, what do you think about the proposed Mosque being built blocks from Ground Zero? I don't remember, honestly, I've been too busy to keep up lately. Do you think somehow the owners of the land should be prohibited from building something that meets building codes and follows the guidelines of local building requirements? Should state and Constitutional legalities be negated in this case? I honestly don't remember where you came down on this issue. You seem to be holding up the entire Muslim religion to task, for the actions of a very minute percentage of its members, and I just wonder how far it goes for you. Sorry if you've addressed this before (and you probably have).

If I was the determining factor--I would not let them.

...I can't agree because I just can't endorse that kind of profiling. In most cases, there's no way to know what religion someone practices, so the result is de facto racial profiling. Guys like doggie have no problem persecuting 1.2 billion people for the actions of a few. I think we're a better country than that. Apparently doggie doesn't.

What we should have is a secret service type group of individuals looking out for the safety of each flight. We don't. In my world those agents would be able to sniff out unusual people. Your point is well taken. Terrorists are evolving. The white grandma could be a terrorist as well. However, the odds are that it is very unlikely. My point is that I don't want the same number of grandmas to get the same amount of attention as a muslim when at an airport.
