This conference is really beginning to look like it is going to be a murderers row beginning this season, I have been looking at the teams in this league and on paper the league looks like it is up in the air this year as to whom can win it! While there is no doubt that FSU, Miami and UVA all should be the favorites going onto the season I am really perplexed about how Clemson and Georgia Tech how will fare this year, if these two teams were in the Big East or the Pac 10 there is not a shadow of doubt that they would be favorites for one of the top three spots with the amount of talent they have coming back! Both of these teams will be more than capable of pulling off a upset this year against the three teams noted above as both these teams have defensive secondary's that are in the upper echelon of football this year! At the same time these teams could conceivably get knocked off by the next rung of teams: Nc State, yes they lose Rivers but there backfield is loaded and Amoto will have either Davis or Marcus Stone (Red Shirt Frosh) at their peak by the time the season starts! Maryland, you would think that the Terps would have a major drop-off since they have been riddled by graduation but they still have a massive offensive line ( depth is a problem) and a great linebackers corp and if anyone knows offense it's Ralph so the Terps can still be dangerous this year late in the season! Then there is Va Tech and we all know come November bet against them because they will tank! This year is different for the hOkies since as usual they should have a strong defense but the offense truly lacks any difference makers at the skilled positions but usually when we count a Beamer team out they come back and bite our asses with a nice season but this is not the Big East and I doubt see Tech contending but they are more than capable of knocking any team off in this conference especially in Blacksburg! Wake Forest will probably have their most athletic team that they have put out on the field in the last 20 years and I cannot understand why one of the bigger school's has not lured Jim Grobe away from Wake, this guy has won at two institutions that rarely does a coach win at, Ohio U and Wake and yet gets no respect! Wake will still have a small offensive line that has been rather inconsistent and if Wake cant run the ball they cannot win! Duke and North Carolina will continue to occupy the bottom of the league, what the hell has happened to the Heel's program? Sort of makes Heel fans long for the days of Dick Crum, hell maybe even Carl Torbush and if Bunting pulls out anything less then 6 wins more than likely he will be canned! This conference is the up and comer, look at how the level of coaching in this league has improved in the past 5 years and the caliber or recruits has begun to go hand in hand with the talented coaching staff's in this league! This league should be one of the best to watch this year as it is going to be wide open and anybody's game!

I think you are letting your feelings toward Scott start to cloud your handicapping! Every one of your posts now, you seem to take a jab at the Pac 10 --Kind of like you are trying to bait Scott into some altercation, then run to MadJack to get him banned. I think that is weak, but, since the majority of the forum is going to back you, why not!

Miami & FSU would have to fight for the 3rd spot in the Pac 10. Neither one would be favored to win it! Neither one would dominate the Pac 10 for as long as they have in their old confs. There is no shadow of a doubt in that fact!

This same ACC that you're talking about still has only had 2 teams (Maryland once & FSU 5 times) since the BCS was created in 1998 compete in the BCS bowls -- Orange, Fiesta, Rose or Sugar -- & have posted only 1 win. The Pac 10 has had 7 different programs play in one of those 4 bowls in the last 6 yrs. And has as many wins in those games, as the ACC has losses, with 5. The football programs in the ACC are getting stronger, but, let's not get carried away w ourselves.

Agree with the ACC being right at the top and also agree that there's no reason to bait Scott as he's been on good behavior.

We've all got the same goals in mind.

Mansa,

No baiting here, thats my personal opinion and that opinion has been also been posted by writers at Fox Sports as well as one other site! The ACC is a up and comer as far as football is concerned, and to say Miami or FSU would be lucky to fight for 3rd in the PAC 10 is too funny! There is no dig intended for Scott, I don't see Wilson ranting and raving here about the use of the Big East in the text because it's true, would you of felt better if I saind these teams would contend in the WAC or MAC? Your taking one small part of a whole page and twisting the logic, reread the page as all I was doing is saying how exciting the ACC will be for a change as it is no longer a one team league! I will not change my opinions in order to be politically correct for Scott, as I have stated in the past I am not a fan of any team but a fan of any team that makes me jack and that goes for conferences as well!

$$ makes the world go round...expanison helps football, but clearly hurts ACC basketball...FSU was declining in the past few years, but they were still getting the job done (at least last year)....

should be a very exciting upcoming year in the ACC

watch out for Clemson....dark horse

Exactly, and hopefully Madjack sees it and ignores it just like I did. Glad you pointed it out Mansa along with Bobby.

Putting the Pac 10 on the same level as the Big East is ridiculous. I would love to hear his reasonings on that one. Last year was supposedly a "down" year for the Pac 10, yet the Pac 10 was the 3rd or 4th strongest conference. Big 10 and Pac 10 were about even last season so they take #3 and #4 slots. I think many expect the Pac 10 to be stronger than last year. I certainly do, but I do not think the Pac 10 will contend for being the strongest conference. 2-3 years from now, Pac 10 will be VERY STRONG. Just look at the recruiting classes as a conference. #1 conference in recruiting last year.

I did think the ACC was the strongest conference last year and I they are my pre-season favorites to be the strongest conference this year. Congrats to the ACC. They have never really been a strong conference top to bottom. Now the ACC conference resembles the Pac 10 conference. Anybody can beat anybody and no real easy games (except for DUKE)

Do I think Maryland and G-Tech could contend for the top 3 spots in Pac 10? Maybe but I know both those teams are not better than Oregon and CAL.

Clemson last year was a 9-4 team, which is good. However, they did have wins against Furman, Middle Tenn. St., North Carolina, Duke, and South Carolina. Those are not good teams. 5 of Clemson's 9 wins last year were against bad teams. I am not completely sold on Clemson as you. I did like how they closed out their season with a big win against Tenn and upsetting FSU. I think this year Clemson has a VERY TOUGH schedule, I would even say a BRUTAL SCHEDULE!!! They have to play both FSU and MIAMI on the road. Lets also throw in playing AT VIRGINIA as well. Maybe the toughest schedule in the nation.

G-Tech I think will be better than last year, especially with a more experienced QB. They also benefit with a favorable schedule compared to other ACC teams. They do not have to play Florida St, and they get both Miami and Virginia at home. If you want a dark horse to win the ACC, G-Tech might be your team.

Something "everyone" needs to remember when comparing conferences. Has anybody ever mentioned the fact that those SEC and Big 12 teams don't play all 3-4 power houses every year. You can now include the ACC because they have 11 teams. In the SEC and Big 12, you play only 8 of the 11 teams in the conference while in the ACC you play 8 of the 10 ACC teams. In the Pac 10, you play 8 of the 9 teams in the conference. That is why I always get big laugh when people tout how tough it is to play in the SEC or Big 12 and they "always" name the top 4 powerhouses or top 4 teams. No team plays all the conference powerhouses every year. However, this is another topic for discussion.

Nice write-up Master Capper on the ACC. I disagreed with only a few lines in your post.

You prob. should read that paragraph again that you quoted from Mansa. I agree with Mansa that FSU and Miami would not have had "all" the success they had in their recent past if they had played in the Pac 10. I think you easily could put a strong argument supporting that claim. I am not sure if Mansa was joking or not (poking fun of Master Capper) about Miami and FSU contending for 3rd in the Pac. I think both Miami and FSU would "contend" for the top 4 slots (including #1) in the Pac 10. Here is a friendly tip, instead of laughing at his post, explain why you disagree with him.

scott4usc,
while talking about how teams in the big 12, sec, and now acc do not play all of the powerhouse teams every year, you should also mention that they do not play all of the "bottom dwellers" as you call them every year, so there is not going to be an "automatic" 3 wins from the bottom dwellers either

I don't think you can call it ignoring it since you quoted it and commented.

You may have sustained some brain swelling at some point in your USC

career.

And Mansa is just you on another computer.

And Bobby is a redcoat

I have tried to stay out of this I really have.

Yes you are right in that not all the SEC teams play all the bottom dwellers. But in my example, I used a team that DOES play all 3 bottom dwellers. That team would get ranked in the top 25. Most SEC teams play 2/3 bottom dwellers and usually miss out on one of the elite teams in the conference. Not a bad thing, but just something to realize.

Scott-Atlanta

I ignored it and let someone else bring up the issue. Mansa and Bobby both did then I chimed in. You couldn't understand that? Your post had nothing to do with college football. :topic:
