"I hope these discussions can continue on a respectful level, without name calling and insults".......................and then without skipping a beat...

""""" I will say that while I believe George W. Bush's political base generally lacks intelligence""""", it does not mean that EVERY pro-Bush voter is dumb. Misguided and misinformed -- yes. Dumb -- no.

probably one of the most condescending things ever written on this forum.......that wasn`t written with at least a little humorous intent.......

ohhh nolan.....

george bush`s political base is basicallly the working class....not the college crowd....not the university faculty.....the backbone of this country.......and i don`t think they`re unintelligent...

nolan, you know,i hope, that i like and respect you.....but,this is the type of elitist attitude that just makes you shake your head...

a very subtle insult...i hope everyone that read it understood the intent...[/QUOTE)

I am glad you got the double meaning of the post -- an olive branch laced with thorns to the Bush camp. I am sincere when I say I do not want to personalize the debate. For instance, my father is a rabid Bush supporter. He is a man who has read extensively on political issues and watches CSPAN like religion. I certainly would not call him "dumb" nor would this label apply to many within the millions of Bush supporters. I have serious issues politically with Bush supporters (and admittedly I am way on the extreme when it comes to American foreign policy). I also admit to being an "elitist."

That term does not mean that I think I am better than anyone else (nor more moral or ethical), it simply means that I think -- for the most part -- the average American voter is about as dumb as a bag of rocks (look at the last four or five Presidential nominees by BOTH parties, if you doubt this -- is this the best the American electorate can do out of 280 millioin citizens?). I admit that I do NOT want millions of more Americans voting, people likley to be swayed by the way a candidate parts his hair or what he says during a 20 second sound bite. Of course, that will make me sound like a monarchist -- but the fact is, I'm in favor of a Jeffersonian model of deomcracy that leaves decision-making in the hands of those who are most aware of the important issues of the day (don't ask me to elaborate -- my ideas are terribly utopian). Screw voter registration drives -- if people have to be PERSUADED to register and get involved in the process, they probably are not going to take enough time to make informed decisions!

So yes, I am am elitist -- and proud of it. Flame away.

Nolan per your statement
"I think Kosar's point was to illustrate George W. Bush's political base -- rural, lower middle class simpletons who think in one-dimensional terms."
Were you supporting this or just making note? While I agree there are those that fit in that catagory I do not think the majority of Bush supporters fit in that catagory.
---and while on the subject what catagory do you think most liberals fit into?
Being a #'s person surely you are aware of the demographics that make up both the conservative and liberal base.

We go back a ways, so this could be an intersting exchange.

Regarding my comment about Bush supporters as "simpletons," I do think this is generally true. I think the average truck driving, tobacco chewing Southerner is likley to be a Bush voter, and the average New England based intellectual is likley to be a Kerry supporter (or at least anti-Bush). That's a supposition, but I'll stand by it.

You ask a very good question about liberals. I'm probably as fed up with that group as the Republicans, but since they are not in power, it's hard to get charged up emotionally against the Left. Certainly, I am disgusted by the sens eof ENTITLEMENT that many liberals have, which drain the national treasury of time and resources. There is clearly a LEECH FACTOR that is tied closely to the Democratic Party and it pains me greatly to be voting with than constintuency. So, don't misinterpret my anti-Bush remarks as being pro-Democrat.

The bottom line is, the American public is totally phucked in the azz by the two party system. Maybe the day will come when American voters might start thinking outside the box and will realize how corrupt and inefficient the two party system is. Then again, I doubt it.

No harm no foul

Take the night off GW. See you tomorrow. As the only TRUE "moderate" on this board (that posts), your insight is needed and appreciated by yours truly.

All this can bring out the demons in any of us. I have been laying back a bit myself till November. Let these "bright bulbs" burn themselves out.

(AR is also as close to moderate IMO as well. Didn't want to miss anyone.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Also Kosar :142lmao: )

Thanks for reply Nolan While I can not disagree with Kosar that his characters were likely Bush prospects and can neither disagree that your truck driver would also fit that discription--however my case in point is these factions make up minor base of conservatives.Statistically Small business owners-military and farmers make up largest conservative base--. on the flip side we both know what makes up the largest portion of the liberal base.
While I agree with a lot of your and Kosar points I think your opinion of Bush supporters unfairly used extreme examples that constitute a small portion of conservatives.
It would be quite similiar for a conservative to use example of he was sitting in diner and in walked Micheal Moore and sat down next to him. As luck would have it he was only patron with more grease on inside of his shirt than outside.Just as the buttermilk was dripping off all 4 of his chins in walks an Ajazeera correspondant and Hezbalah terrorist he had just interviewed. When the saw Moore they came over and after high 5's ----Blah Blah Blah.
Sounds good but I would definately not classify all or even most dems in the catagory of supporting Moore.
I think maybe politics puts blinders on all of us but I do like the discussions with points from both sides of the fence :)

Dogs, you implied that both you and Nolan know what makes up the majority of the liberal base. I assume your speaking of intellectuals that Mr. Bush distains.
