The Top Seeds

Why is Duke still predicted to get a top seed? They don't deserve it and a much better team will be left out. I would like to officially start the complaining right now as I think Duke wll get a #1 seed and they will put Kentucky in the field. Go ahead and post your four Top Seeds if you want to go Lunardi.

Mine are: Gonzaga, Louisville, Kansas and Miami. If Michigan State wins the Big 10 tourney, substitute them for Kansas in my mix but, the committee will have them take the place of Miami.

Let me also add that even though I am a diehard UK fan, they absolutely do not deserve to be in the dance. They suck. They'll gain a lot more winning the NIT than squeaking in as a 11 or 12 seed.

Kentucky is a tough decision. Honestly, I think the conf tourneys are a joke when it comes to deciding who should go to the NCAA Tourney. Also, Kentucky lost bad to Vandy but its a loss. A loss by 100 is the same as a loss by 1.....a loss is a loss. No more, no less. If someone wants to correct me, then please go ahead. I guarantee that anyone who loses in the Big Dance, no matter what the score is, will not be allowed to keep playing in the tournament.

Overall I'd say Kentucky has no business in the Dance. But...they are tied for 2nd in a major conference. How do you keep a team out who finishes 2nd in a major conference?? You can't.

Almost every team plays a JOKE of a non-conference schedule. To judge a team on a "quality win" back in Nov/Dec b/c they happen to beat a mediocre big name 3 months ago is also a joke.

I really wish they had a format in place where you knew.......if you finish in a certain place in your conference, your in. If not, you have to win the tourney. No ifs, ands, or buts.

I think Kentucky getting in is a stretch, but the win vs Florida combined with finishing 2nd in the SEC....they are in.

Finally.....lol........I think if you win the title, you automatically get in the next year....no matter what.

they do and did

check the standings of the pac-12 last year

Washington won the conference

and was a 1 seed......in the nit

conf records don't matter, you're overall record, ranking, rpi, sos, etc matter

I realize that. I just don't agree with it. For one, most teams schedule a lot of obvious patsies. On top of that....you have no control of you SOS.

I can schedule Illinois and you can schedule Miami. We prob schedule them a few years out. Who can predict that Miami will be good and Illinois will suck?

And what counts.....good wins? good losses? bad losses?

Everybody plays almost nothing but conference games starting in January. I think that's all that should matter. Who cares what happened back in December?

You beat #6 NC State?? Congrats on that....guess what, they aren't even "receiving votes" now. I guess you should have cheered harder for them to win games.

Having a committee is a joke in itself, but at the same time...honestly...teams on the bubble have no business being considered for a NATIONAL CHAMPION anyway. I'd much rather see some sort of NBA style playoff to determine a champ.

I think the committee works most of the time and I'm not smart enough to come up with an alternative. I do think the fact that every conference gets a team in is great and, year-by-year, those teams have proven to be more competitive.

The thing I don't like is when a team like Kentucky gets in on reputation and gets the benefit of the doubt just because they are in a power conference. The MWC is much, much better than the SEC but, Boise State will probably get shut out.

The committee also is sketchy because they line up the mid-majors to play each other because they're afraid they will knock out one of the favored big schools and therefore lose revenue for the big conferences.

Oh well, it gives us something to talk about and I'm going to KC next week for the Friday/Sunday games so can't wait for the selection show (on ESPN by the way).

Overall its hard to complain if you don't get in. Its not necessarily "fair" but anyone who is truly worthy of being a national champion is going to be in.

The more unfair part of the tourney is prob when so many mediocre teams have just as much shot as teams who proved all year they are title contenders. Its a shame there are no byes for the top teams....

Typically the champion has been a team ranked in the top 10 maybe 12 I believe, maybe someone has stats on that.
As for who gets a #1 seed,it doesn't bother me much. More about where the #1 and #2 seeds get placed, get play close to home or cross country. If the bracket plays out as it is set up the #1 and #2 play each other anyways

I think that is part of the point as the #1 seed gets to play close to home but, that is not necessarily true for the #2 seed.

You are right that ultimately the one plays the two but, I think potentially there is a bigger difference when the one plays the four (and two plays three) in the round to get to the final four.

New Top Seeds = Gonzaga and Louisville (locks) Miami and Kansas (should be) Duke and Indiana (let's see)
