I can't figure for the life of me where this two class system starts and stops with top 50% paying 96% and bottom paying 4%?

I wonder what the libs object is. do they want 50/50>100% and nothing, is their ultimate goal to make the top 25 foot entire bill and botton 75 skate?

Lets add a little logic to the equation.

If you want to hammer big business till they can't make a profit they'll go where they can as we are seeing.

Now if you think the people that were smart enough to earn top 10% are going to let someone rob them to pay others I have sneaking suspicion they just might be smart enough to take their money elsewhere. Now consider what the deficeit will be with 34% less tax revenue for starters and the devaluation of the $. All foreign investors pull their funds and poof the U.S. is past the point of no return.
As Beantown says "Will the last liberal to leave Boston please turn put the lights!"

Robbing Peter to pay Paul only makes Peter sore and folks I'm here to tell you,you can't do business with a sore Peter!!!!!!!!

Do I see the Swiss licking their chops????

It's funny, I never really was into any type of politics in college. When I first entered dental school, that's when I first took an interest because the reality of my future hit me. I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my hand. I worked my ass off for a scholarship to UNC, while at the same time getting good grades. Then I entered dental school, and am again busting my ass so that I can specialize. When it's all said and done, I'll be more than 150 grand in debt from tuition. I did what a majority of kids my age had the chance to do. I wasn't given anything, I worked for it all and now in the end I will pay for it out the ass. Why should I have even gone through all of this schooling and everything if I'll end up making as much as some people without the same education. One day I will be in that top 1% tax bracket and it's a bunch of crap to penalize me for making something of myself while people sit on their fat asses without jobs collecting welfare because they have too much "pride" (=laziness) to get a job that is available that they don't want to do. Like I said, I worked for where I am at now, a place where plenty of other people could be had they put in the work and sweat. And in the end I will pay more for it. What a load of shit.

Wow saint, couldnt have said it any better myself. Shit like this makes me puke all over myself and its the one, lone reason I would never vote for a dem this year.

65% of income taxes are paid by those making over $92,000 a year, yet this is where they want to hit you for more income taxes. Instead of decreasing spending in all their bloated programs (even though yeah I do support most of them), they want to jack the people who are paying the most tax for MORE tax. Like you saint, my fiance put herself through college and Harvard Law, nothing was ever given to her, yet dems want to hammer on folks like her for more in taxes. I'm not in the top 1% yet, but I sure hope to be one day like yourself, isnt that the "american dream?" So much for continuing to encourage people to become successful. More like, be successful only dont cross a certain line or we will make you pay for all the people who werent successful.

Remember, just because an individual can afford to pay more in taxes doesnt mean it should be levied against them.

Sickening.

I work with a several younger girls, 25 and under, who have children. I'm amazed this time of year to hear about their refunds. We're talking 5 and 6 grand when they make LESS than 18 grand a year!! Head of household, earned income credit, etc are the terms I hear. How can you get back more than you made?? I don't understand that? Why even take anything out of their checks to start with? Might as well just give them their whole gross pay all year long. Now, the younger ones who DON'T have kids don't get these types of refunds. It's almost an incentive to have children out of wedlock, the more the merrier and the bigger your refund is.

Sidenote, I have appreciated the tax cuts the past 2 years. I can really tell a difference, and they have been nice.

Oh all of sudden when a republican is spending you can't take it, but for 40 years the libs were spending like drunken fools establishing entitilement programs after entitilement programs and all you can complain about is now that bush is spending the end of the world is near.

You don't even realize how good you have it because of republicans holding the line against liberals for the last 10 years, your dumb enough to think it was democrats that made everything so great.

Well just keep thinking that and watch more industries and jobs go overseas because they can't continue supporting all the idiot programs that kerry, kennedy, boxer, etc put in effect the last 20 years.

Just have them keep redistributing the wealth and we all can watch our futures go overseas.

I hear you, saint. I find myself wavering at times, because some people truly have no access and no education through no fault of their own.

But I also believe that a majority of people create their own problems.

People like you who work their asses off should somehow be rewarded in the end (and probably you are many other ways, but it is understandably hard to realize with stacks of debt/bills).

It's always those that "work the system" that make it so frustrating for the rest of us. You did it the "right way".

Unfortunately, many do it "the wrong way", and entitlement programs are there for many of them, and often perpetuate the crisis.

Man am I glad I make under 56K I would hate to be paying all those taxes, whoa wait what about the new Ohio sales tax on safe deposit boxes, nah I will give the one keepsake jewelry item I own to the rich they can donate it to charity and write if off and I will save on safe deposit fees and sales tax. WIN, WIN! And don't move in the state of Ohio they charge you $19.25 for an address change on your Drivers License, only up $11 from a year ago when it was $8.25. Nope the deputy registrar keeps none of the increase it all goes to your buddy and mine Mr Tax M Taft. My barber raised his hair cut $3 in two years a 33% increase due to an increase in license fees for barber permits. Once more my Taft went up. I could go on but you get the picture it ain't all federal taxes guys, it is the sum total that is killing us. The state based sales Taft when up from 5 to 6 percent a 1% increase right? WRONG it was a 1% revenue increase but amounted to 20% increase over the base 5% to 6%. How about that $11 increase I spoke of above? That is a, awh screw it you do the fawking math, I am going to bed so I can go to work tomorrow and work a 12 hour day again to keep the Taft going.

What a bunch of misinformation in this thread.

"The average tax rate for the top one percent was essentially unchanged at 27.50 percent, relative to 27.45 percent in 2000."

WOW! Twenty seven and a half whole percent! How will those folks making 300 dimes a year ever survive on a measly $217,500 per year??? It's shocking we don't have more top one-percenters in the streets begging for money.

The extremely rich MAKE all the money. That is why they pay such a large percentage of the overall tax. The fact is that, with all of the ILLEGAL or SEMI-LEGAL accounting that the rich can afford to have done on their earned income, they actually end up paying a SMALLER percentage than most in the middle class or upper middle class.

Also, let's remember where these rich folks earn their money, shall we? If you didn't know, it's off the backs of the poor. And who is it that really benefits from public services like law enforcement, road construction, etc.? Again, if you didn't know, it's the rich. For example, how long would a rich person keep their wealth without the police protecting them? And how would the rich be able to use technological advancements to make more money in their businesses without the military to create them?

Look, nothing against rich people but I see nothing wrong with them paying their fair share. I work hard every day to get to the point where I will make enough money to pay a larger than average share of taxes for this great country. I see a lot of folks who talk a good game when it comes to loving this country but when it comes down to paying your fair share in taxes to keep this country running the way it needs to be run, look at how all the folks in this thread get stingy with their pocketbooks.

Nick.........I was laughing as I was reading this until your post appeared. You are absolutely right.

Everyone can argue all night long over percentages and who pays what....................BUT THERE IS ONE FACT I CHALLENGE ANYONE ON THIS BOARD TO DISAGREE WITH..........

If you dont think the rich dont have the best tax advice and acounting advice you are very misinformed. People who make a lot of money use every loophole and tax shelter available to man when it comes to saving $$$$. Believe me when I says these guys can find ways to mumbo jumbo figures so that they can pay the least tax possible...........

Challenge accepted:
Accountants loopholes ect are nice spin but FACT remains

"We are approaching the point where voters adversely affected by the income tax are a minority that can be exploited to the hilt. There are 129 million taxpayers. The top 5 percent of income earners (6.5 million people) already bear 54 percent of the income tax burden. The top 25 percent (32 million people) pay 83 percent of the total personal income tax collection.
The remaining 75 percent of taxpayers (97 million people) bear only 17 percent of the income tax burden, AND 70 MILLION VOTERS have NO income tax liability whatsoever.(hmmm, wonder which ticket they punch at election time????????)
With 167 million voters with little or no income tax liability and 32 million burdened with 83 percent of the liability, have we achieved the tyranny of the majority? Will the political temptation to plunder the minority and to turn them into tax slaves destroy the creativity and productivity of the American economy?"
Paul Craig Roberts

DEMOCRAT
You have two cows
Your neighbor has none.
You feel guilty for being successful.
You vote people into office that put a tax on your cows, forcing
you to sell one to raise money to pay the tax.
The people you voted for then take the tax money, buy a cow and
give it to your neighbor.
You feel righteous. Barbara Streisand sings for you.

SOCIALIST
You have two cows.
The government takes one and gives it to your neighbor.
You form a cooperative to tell him how to manage his cow.

REPUBLICAN
You have two cows.
Your neighbor has none.
So?

COMMUNIST
You have two cows.
The government seizes both and provides you with milk.
You wait in line for hours to get it.
It is expensive and sour.

CAPITALISM, AMERICAN STYLE
You have two cows.
You sell one, buy a bull, and build a herd of cows.

DEMOCRACY, AMERICAN STYLE
You have two cows.
The government taxes you to the point you have to sell both to
support a man in a foreign country who has only one cow,
which was a gift from your government.

I'm sorry Nick but this is among the more moronic things you have ever written. How do democrats think rich people got there? By magic? Chances are they put themselves through some very expensive schools and worked their asses off. Not all people that make this level of income live in big mansions and drive Ferarris. Not all people at this level of income hire shady tax lawyers and find all these loopholes. Loopholes. Thats another favorite scare word of the democrats when it comes to talking about taxes. They usually use some sentence like "John Smith here used a loophole big enough to drive a tank through." The reason its 27.5% is for every one guy or company that pays less than that, theres 100 Joe Smiths paying the standard 38% or 40% whatever the top bracket is now. Yup, RUN AND HIDE ALL THE RICH ARE GETTING RICHER AND NOT PAYING ANY TAXES.

Nick Douglas said:

Typically commi horseshit Nick. Read the report. Thats talking about TAXES PAID not "taxes we charged but you rich folk used your rick folk accountant to get out of paying taxes. THATS TAXES PAID. Who gives a shit what the % is? The rich people in this countray pay all the taxes, now you want them to pay more, because the % they pay is smaller than the % someone who works at a fast food join pays?

Typically democratic/commi bs is to talk about all the "rich" folk using "loopholes" and sure enough they find some guy or some company who makes ten zillion dollars a year and pays no tax. They then hold it up and say "See, WE TOLD YOU! All the rich people in this country pay NO TAXES! SEE! SEE!" How about holding up the 999,999 other "rich" folks, but at the same time, hold up their companies, and the millions of workers they employ. Sure, take more money out of their pockets. Oh wait, then get in line because you can complain when they lay off more people. Fvcking asinine. You know how much it takes to go into a Jackson Hewitt or HR Block? $25! TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS. Rich people are always going to pay more for accountants, but then again they are going to pay more for lawyers, doctors and car mechanics too. But HR Block gave us the same advice about taxes and deductions. Fvcking democrats think rich people go into an accountants office, and the accountat just makes the income disappear so they pay no taxes. What a crock of shit.

Your attitude is the one that makes me sick about the tax system in this country. Sure I could afford to buy you a new car, but does that mean I should? I could afford to pay $1,000 more a month in taxes, does that mean the government should charge me more?

Last year I was self employed for two months as a contractor. In this country if you are self employed you get the privlege of paying double the FICA/Medicare, so instead of the normal 7.5%, I get to pay 15% with no write-off like the corporations do. That seems fair, right? Prorated out over 04, my fiance and I will have over $70,000 in federal income taxes taken out of our paychecks. At the end of the year, we will probably still owe a bit, but thats thanks to that "rich guy only" accountant we hired at HR Block, who told us to reduce our witholding because of our mortgage payments - better to owe a small amount at the end of the year than get back a ton, it means youve been giving the govt a free loan. But the democrats in congress want to reinstate the marriage penalty as well. So we will get nicked again on taxes - no pun intended. But you know what we do with our money? We give it to charity, we hired a guy to re-side our house, hired a landscaper to re-do the front and back of the house - we put a lot of the money back into our community. Believe me, if we had to pay a few more grand in taxes, some of these things we wouldnt do. You can sit back and say wahhhh, poor baby cant re-side his house, or you can realize thats a couple grand out of the contractors pocket.

You know Nick, you or anyone here bet on a lot of games, how much action do you put through in a given week? Lets say someone has $500 in total action for arguments sake. Thats $26,000 a year in action give or take. Hey you can afford to pay a few thousand more in taxes, so lets charge you more! JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE CAN AFFORD TO BE CHARGED MORE FOR SOMETHING DOESNT MEAN YOU SHOULD CHARGE THEM MORE FOR IT.
