Freeze,

I just wanted to thank you for working 90 hours a week so I can sit at home and eat potato chips and hit the occassional hash pipe. I appreciate it.

Dr. Freeze, am I to guess you think Donald Trump should pay the same as some poor soul who only makes $25,000 or so a year? My god, what a f*cking idiot you are.

Using someone as wealthy as Donald Trump is a completely unrealistic example. The top 1% hovers around 300g, and while that is a lot of money, it in no way compares to the few rare people like donald trump.

Some people apparently are incorrigably selfish. They will make whatever justifications they can to try to keep what is "theirs" at the expense of our great country.

A comment to dawgball will be my last comment in this thread.

The Estate Tax is a frequent point of contention, but ultimately I support it. The person getting the inheritance did not earn the money once already, their parents did. I understand the arguments against it. I guess it depends on whether you look upon the money as being taxed already when earned by the parents or untaxed because the children are the ones receiving it and they have paid no tax on it. I generally look at taxation based on who is receiving or earning the money and in this case, the people receiving the money get taxed on it once. I support that.

i'll also say that this is an interesting thread. it's great that people disagree, but we could do away with calling each other names.

nick douglas quote:"If you removed the police, military and other public services, who would have more to lose: the rich or the poor?"

my guess, nick, would be that the poor would lose more. if this removal of services took place, the rich wouldn't have to pay those taxes that are allotted for those services. that saved money would be used for private security, etc.. since the wealthy usually run in the same circles, they would pool their money together to cover all of those services to be adequately protected.
nick, the truth is that right now there is more crimes comitted on the poor, by the poor then comitted on the rich. so again i would say that the poor would suffer under your scenario.

my thoughts on taxes & revenue for the gov't. are:

people shouldn't be penalized, but instead should be encouraged for becoming successful.

people shouldn't be given money for doing absolutely nothing, other than having children. if people need welfare to get by, they should have to earn it. other than seniors or disabled people, evrybody should do some kind of chore( cleaning city streets, aiding in the hosp. or nursing home, clerical work in gov't, agencies, etc.) to earn this welfare. no excuses for anybody to not do this work/chore.

cut out all of these pork barrel spending that is usually attached to more important bills. i saw mccain(who is my favorite politican) on one of these talk shows rapidly list a slew of unnecessary spending (ie-$billion on the study of a tropical rain forrest in iowa, yes iowa) that takes place.

I payed my fair share and then some. I dont care if they want a little more. I just dont like the BS about you have a tax cut. When you dont. We live in the best place your going to find. Thats why I vote and pay my share. I did my service duty many years ago. And that is why I will say what ever the f??? I want about anything with politics, taxes or other BS. I just get sick of our poltician right, left, green, brown, pink, what ever always playing around with the truth.
CT once again you were wrong. The biggest spender of all time is in the office right now. I thought into days dollars it was Johnson. Somone I did not like at all. But I was wrong. Johnson was third per the Wall Street Journal. In second place was Nixion.
Another great leader I voted for to find out he was biggest liar and crook ever in the WH. So stop with the Dems have spent the most in the last 40 years. They spent more then enough but im afraid there in third place.
If we could just stop throwing so much down rat holes like Iraq.
Can you understand what just 15 more billion for our highway funds would do for our country. The jobs and taxes that would be payed. Guys do we have some bridges and main I system rds and state highways that are just in shitty shape. You all must drive over some of them. Do you folks know we have over 200 bridges in this country that are closed or have weight restrictions becasue of the repairs they need. Not all of these are back road bridges either. Again this info was in wall street last month.

nick all I can say is you have a right to your opinion, but listening to you is just like hearing all the crap spewed out by all the extreme left, the now gang and the special interest groups from peta to greenpeace.

you must of went to some college, was it usc because you sure took every course they offerred in liberal studies.

Your a walking, talking handbook for the left in this country, you at least make a stand and argue for it, which I don't agree with, but I do respect you for it.

At least we know where your coming from and can agree or disagree, not like guys like djv who just whine and cry and bait people to see his post count go up.

To all you guys out there working 90 or more hours a week, how do you find time to drive to work, sleep, eat, go to the crapper, take a shower, etc? There is only 168 hours in the week, YOU do the math!

Do you even have time for pussy? Life ain't worth it, without it. Dr. Strangelove should vouch for that statement!

ANYWAY, no one stuck a cattle prod up your ass and forced you to work for 90 hours a week. Enjoy life some, relax, my friends started dieing when I was 16, a drunk driver hit her and killed her, and all the money and all the taxes and all the police services your tax dollars pay for won't bring her or any on of the other 5+ highschool classmates back that are dead.

If you believe someone who did absolutely nothing like have a family member die paying income tax on the inheitance....or get free money, then why is it that you think that someone who does absolutely nothing to earn their welfare.....or get free money not have to pay their taxes.

I'm ok with paying taxes, but I think that it should be fair to everyone.

And even the example about Donald Trump is dumb. Him starting businesses, and creating thousands of jobs, creates taxes for his employees. He is responsible for creating thousands of jobs, and bringing in hundreds of millions in taxes. Without him, "The Rich Asshole" to create the business, then thousands would be unemployed, and the government would have less in tax revenue.

Think of all the people, who have created businesses, who "exploit" the system by hiring people, and creating tax revenue.

Yeah, they aren't doing their fair share.

Nick=ZERO CREDITBILITY

Amazed at your ability to asume anything you want at anytime.

I've owned my own business for 16 years.
(you can believe that if you want)

I worked EASILY 90 hours a week for the 1st 10 years.
(you can believe that if you want)

and NO, I don't pay close to 10% of my income in taxes:D
(you can believe that if you want)

ONE THING I BELIEVE
You don't make sh*t and probably won't have to worry about paying any substantial amount in taxes anytime soon

They can keep changing the rules, but it's still the same game.

Keep on looking up and hating

I'll keep on growing;)

For pete's sake, I didn't mean to imply Donald Trump is the anti christ. Just was a name I used off the top of my head to counter Freeze Brain's welfare line comment. Next time i'll think of someone who makes $300,000 a year or so.

I'm soooooooo fuhking sick and tired about hearing about welfare is the root of all evil. When I was going to school and working full time, my now ex-wife, and I went on a program called W.I.C. (women-infant-children) which supplied food for her and baby formula for my new born twins. Another form of welfare. It was really rough back then for us. So are you saying that we had children to get a tax break??? Get a fuhking life. I busted my azz through school, had a full time job, and tried to raise a family. Are you saying that we, "abused the system," back then? Get off your fuhking high horses. WE ALL WORK HARD for what we have. I am proud to say that many years ago, welfare helped my family out when we needed it most. It made the transition through school and raising a family alittle bit less stressful for me. Now that I've graduated and have a decent paying job, I pay my fair share of taxes every year. But things hit home alittle closer to me when you all discuss how shite welfare is...I don't think so!!!!!

Easy, Chopsticks. If you are referring to my comment, I was not talking about you. You seem a little sensitive about it. The comment was directly attributed to the people that continue to have children who can't afford them just for the additional hand-outs that will follow. Welfare is not evil. As stated in my post, it is the people that abuse the system that ruin it for everyone else.

Welfare should be used as a TEMPORARY crutch (such as your case) to get on/back on someone's feet OR for the people who truly lack the ability to provide for thier own lives. I think everyone knows that this is not usually the case. Sadly, due to human nature, welfare breeds welfare. Why work hard when you can live off of the government is normally the lesson learned. If everyone was a responsible citizen such as you and your family, Welfare would have a better name with most.

Please know that I meant no offense to people in your situation, but I think it was obvious in my post. If not, my apologies.

Imagine what it would be like to keep virtually every penny that you earn, invest tax free, and see prices on consumer goods fall as much as 20% or more!

Add to this the fact that you would receive a rebate from the government equal to the sales taxes that you would be expected to pay every year on the basic necessities of life.

If the Soviet Union can fall, so can the IRS.

good success story, chopsticks. I have several coworkers on WIC, and in this discussion, I wasn't considering that to be welfare. The ones I know who get WIC have at least part-time jobs or a spouse who works full time and do work hard like you did. When I think of welfare, I think of some skank in the projects with 5 kids under 5, a messy house, dirty kids, etc., and she spends her free money welfare check on booze and cigarettes. I don't like that scenario.

I have a cousin in my family who gets WIC. She has 4 children under 5 (she wanted a lot of kids!), and her husband works full-time as a recruiter for the Military. Again, I have absolutely no problem with them getting WIC.

I also don't have too big of a problem with people having their kids on free insurance programs (In Kentucky, it's called K-Chip). They are working, and it's cost prohibitive for them to insure their children. My taxes going to support programs like this is fine.

Good discussion.

There are exceptions to every rule Chops and indeed as in your case funds do go where intended and necessary--it is the abuses that are the concern and generally the rule rather than the exception.

Fact---a segment of U.S. population has approximately 70% of children born out of wedlock and same segment votes 90% democratic---- duh--what a coincidence!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"A record 1.3 million babies were born out of wedlock in 1999, marking the first time that a full one-third of all U.S. births were to unwed mothers. Unwed birth rates were highest for black women, with 69.1 percent of births to black women occurring out of wedlock, compared with 42.2 percent for Hispanics and 22.1 percent for non-Hispanic whites. "The sole reason that welfare exists is the collapse of marriage," Mr. Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation said. "It is a huge national tragedy that this country spends $1,000 subsidizing single parenthood for every $1 it spends trying to promote marriage and prevent illegitimacy."

Marriage 1st time around last 7 years. Over 50% of all end in divorce. They have no boundry for color or earnings. Fastest growing sectore that needs help or as some call all help welfare. Are the seinors. Yes many mothers and dads get to golden years and can't make it with out help. Health care and pensions gone bad leading cause. Just think noting in this country has gone up more then 4/5% last two years. But health care went up many places over 20%. Now I know everyone will say thats because al these law suites. Wel they had law suites for years and health care went up 4/5% like everythihg else did. No theres more to this health care then just saying law suites. Someones screwing the population.

Excedrin will make those headaches go away, djv.

If you don't think that lawsuits are more rampid today than they ever have been, you really have gone insane. There are otehr factors, but this is far and away the leading cause for the rise in health care costs.

By the way, my cable bill went up more than 4-5%.:tongue
