In my opinion Goodwill is just as bad. They have a lot of this same type of crap that goes on.
If you're looking for a good charity The Salvation Army does a pretty good job. My favorite is the Ronald McDonald house which takes the money given to them and provides housing for sick kids that need e3xtended stays close to hospitals. I've seen this first hand and always give at least $1 when going through one of their drive thru's, which I usually only go through for breakfast because I don't like their food very much.
United Way has been on my "don't donate to" list for a long time. There are just better run charities out there where a far bigger percentage of your donation goes to what they actually market that it's going to.
absolutely agree, Wayne! I won't list here, but the place I go to in Haiti is run in a most excellent matter and is a tremendous charity. We probably have other members who work with charities or have personal contact with charitable organizations if somebody needs info on where to give.
The United Way has been off my list for a long time now. The think it was the early 90's when the execs were using UW money for vacations that did it for me.
