Best shot ever for Las Vegas sportsbooks was Duhon's half-court shot when Duke lost by 1 point to UConn in the Final 4 in 2004... almost everyone on Duke had the ML and everyone on UConn had the -1.5 or -2 including myself.

remember this game as I had Duke. Was at a bar being the only a-hole cheering for Duke, and then went nuts on that last shot and everyone around me thinking I had lost my mind since they didn't realize the gambling ramifications.

This is from a trip report I wrote. I was in Vegas for that game!

We all had a pretty relaxing time watching the Final Four games at the Mirage. It is really something to hear all the fans rooting loudly all game long. We had a couple of guys sitting behind us who would not shut up. Actually, one of the guys was doing most of the yapping. Every time down the court, the team should have done this, or should have done that. He was pretty annoying, in that he was one of those guys who didn?t know all that much, but wanted to sound like he did. At the end of the Geo Tech game, he was mad because OK State didn?t foul Tech. Now, the score was tied. Who in the hell thinks a team should intentionally foul a guy with the score tied? Only this jag! So, when Tech won on a lay up with one second left, this guy cried for ten minutes. Some of my friends got into a debate about it, but he was just a dork. Well, the guy chats it up with some of the guys between games, and asks who they like. My friend Dan tells them he likes Duke getting the 2 points. This guy said he took Ucon -2 as they would just kill Duke.

As the second game wore on, this guy was still yelling about every play. ?That?s a foul!? ?The ref?s have money on the game!? ?My pee-pee?s too small!? I was actually surprised that someone from the casino didn?t tell him to leave due to the language he was screaming every play. My friends couldn?t take it anymore, and started to call him on his dumb ?coaching ideas? he had for the television screens. I mean, this guy really didn?t have a clue about the way the game gets played. My friend Dan told him at one point, ?That?s just plain silly, what you said.? I don?t remember the whole exchange, but the guy then starts to say crap under his breath about us ?having a case of beer each in us?. We all let it slide, as this guy was losing his bet, and probably just a young punk blowing off steam.

Ucon was never in the game, but at the end, they made a hell of a run, and actually took the lead. Now this guy behind us was becoming Mr. Dick. They went up by three and had two free throws coming with 1.5 seconds to play. After the foul, the guy jumps up and cracks my friend in the arm and yells as loud as he can, ?That?s eleven hundred in the bank, BITCH!!!!? This was completely uncalled for, but we didn?t do or say anything. He was hooting and high-fiveing his pal, ?Yeah! Easy money, baby!? Now, people?..trailing all game, and winning on the last shot, is not easy money, or cause for bragging. I looked at the guy and said, ?He still has to make both free throws for this to be over? He laughed and said, ?Yeah?..you keep thinking that.?

Well, Okafor missed the first free throw, and made the second. Ucon now had a 4 point lead. Duke inbound the ball, and Chris Duhon tossed up a sweet ?meaningless? three-pointer that kissed the glass and Duke lost by one point. For those of you whom don?t follow sports wagers, For Ucon backers to win their bet, Ucon had to win by three or more points. Duke backers could lose by one point and still win their bet. Thus, our ?hero? who had ?eleven hundred in the bank?, just had his nuts plucked!

Every one of my buddies and I, turned and shouted down the punk! I just looked at him and shook my head with my jaw on the floor, but the others unloaded. He just sunk down in the nice soft seats of the Mirage sports book, and ate the pain that comes with being a loud mouthed smart a**, who speaks too soon.

This was the best part of our trip so far. I don?t enjoy the hardship of others, but this was different.

------------------------------

The beauty of this was watching everyone who wanted to be "first in line" to cash their tickets, slink back out of line after that shot went down!

Before or since.....I have never heard a louder scene in a casino.
