Apparently I jinxed myself. :142smilie Yesterday I got the "Total Security Virus" on my computer and, if you have never gotten this one before, it's a real humdinger. You get a bazillion popups telling you your system is compromised!!! click here to fix it! and the best part is that they tell you that in about 15 different ways (your information is being stolen, you are using outdated virus database, etc.). I never fell for their BS as it was obviously a fake program that I never downloaded, but, I've spent countless hours tackling this bitch. I got all the popups to go away and I can use my computer pretty close to normally now, but whenever I run a scan I am still showing Trojans on the computer. They get removed, but then they come back. :sadwave:

I've tried to backdate with the system restore but that didn't work because there was an error that caused the process to stop. I also tried rebooting in safe mode, again, no dice. At this point I'm wondering if I should just reinstall Windows? About a month ago I backed up everything to a CD, so if I completely reinstalled I wouldn't lose much, if anything.

Please feel free to laugh, make jokes, and/or sing the praises of Macs all you want-- I think I'm beginning to see the light. Alan Thicke and Martin Short are smarter than I thought!

So, a few weeks then?

:mj07: Could be. In all seriousness, I am curious to see if the reinstall solves the problem. If it does, I will probably go with what I have until it completely craps out on me. If it doesn't, I may have to break down and get a new one. It just seems wasteful to go out and buy a completely new machine due to a virus. I mean, a technotard like me may not be able to fix it, but I'm sure SOMEBODY can. And to be honest, right now isn't the best time for me to throwing a bunch of money down on a new computer so I'd like to avoid that if possible.

If I were to get a Mac though, what would you recommend? I really don't need bells and whistles. I use the Internet, e-mail, Word, Excel, and that's about it. One note -- I do use the Net a lot as I have a side job that requires it, so I would need something that could be used quite a bit.

If you don't need a laptop - get an iMac.

If you need a laptop wait until June when the new MacBooks come out.....

Thanks for the advice. I don't "need" a laptop, but I strongly prefer them to desktops. And the way my current computer is running, who knows if it will make it until June. :scared

Note....GSP also uses a MAC:SIB

Note #2..........I know ya think MAC's cost 8 billion dollars, but you don't have to wait for the new MAC book, could get an "old" laptop like the following:

Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 2 GB

Only cost 7 billion, so you'll be fine:tongue

Also.........Meg and Brian use a MAC

Well shit KS, that's just dirty pool telling me that the Griffins have Macs. You're really tying my hands here. And I kind of figured that GSP would be a Mac user, that's why I didn't even ask you that.

Thanks for the info. You're right, I'm not going to spend an outlandish amount like $8B, but $7B is right in my wheelhouse.
