well, when you have 45 (or is it 46?) bowl games... and a handful of teams decline invitations... this is what we're stuck with. the other factor... up until fairly recently, a lot of bowl games featured a team from the "group of 5" versus a team from the top conferences. sure, only one of the teams was usually motivated, but it was great, watching the "group of 5" teams getting their shot to beat a team from a major conference. but, of course, the top conferences got sick of getting their asses handed to them, so they changed almost all of the bowl matchups. now it's almost exclusively "group of 5" teams against each other and mediocre teams from the top conferences playing each other. so much better to have zero motivated teams instead of 50%.
i think they should have dropped someone and invited North Dakota St to a bowl after they were eliminated from the playoffs.
