what are these college basketball players future going to be once they leave college ?

Women have substantial lead on men
Associated Press

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Only 23 men's teams in the 65-team NCAA Tournament managed to graduate at least 50 percent of its student athletes while women's teams in the postseason continue to graduate at a much higher rate, according to a University of Central Florida study released Tuesday.

Two men's teams, LSU and Minnesota, failed to graduate even one basketball player, according to numbers supplied by the 2004 NCAA Graduation Rates Report. No. 1 seeds Illinois (47 percent) and Washington (45 percent) graduated less than half their players.

UCF's Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport also found an increasing disparity between the graduation rates of white and black student-athletes on teams playing in this year's NCAA Tournament.

"We are releasing these graduation rates in order to give March Madness fans a perspective on how well our institutions of higher education are doing off the basketball court," institute director Richard Lapchick said.

"Regarding graduation rates for women, we can cut down the nets in celebration. As for men's graduation rates, especially for African-American student-athletes, the dance has barely begun."

Two men's teams, LSU and Minnesota, failed to graduate even one basketball player, according to numbers supplied by the 2004 NCAA Graduation Rates Report. Two No. 1 seeds -- Illinois (47 percent) and Washington (45 percent) -- graduated less than half their players.

Bucknell and Utah State both graduated 100 percent, but only four other schools topped 70 percent.

Numbers looked much better for women's teams, where only six schools in the 64-team field failed to graduate at least 50 percent while 35 graduated at least 70 percent. Eight schools graduated at least 90 percent with Holy Cross, Vanderbilt and Montana registering 100 percent.

All four of the top-seeded women's team graduated at least 53 percent.

When the numbers were broken down by race, the study showed 40 women's teams graduated at least 70 percent of their white players and 24 graduated at least 70 percent of their black players -- more than double the numbers for the men's teams.

Only 17 men's teams graduated at least 70 percent of white players while just 10 had the same percentage for black players.

Ten women's teams failed to graduate a black student-athlete while only two failed to graduate a white player. On the men's side, nine schools each failed to graduate white or black student-athletes.

"Race is an ongoing academic issue, reflected in the continued gap between graduation rates for white and African-American student-athletes," Lapchick said. "While rates for both groups have improved over the last few years, a significant disparity remains between graduation rates for white and African-American basketball student-athletes.''

Graduation rate numbers did not include Ivy League schools -- Dartmouth women and Pennsylvania men -- which do not report graduation rates.

It's a real shame isn't it! Since the NCAA can't seem to figure out
the shortcomings of their programs, perhaps we need to subpoena them to a
Congressional hearing! That'll generate a lot of corrective actions.

I have a novel Idea, how about these Troglodites in Congress put some effort towards protecting our Borders instead of trying to plaster their Mugs all over the media chasing after a load of Steroid slamming Prima Donnas and Wannabe NBA playas'

On the course!
Wow! I had no idea!

I suppose some black leaders will now say the study was biased, or "whitey" needs to put forth a greater effort in promoting our black aff-a-leet in the classroom?

Whenever someone says these kids don't belong in college, they are a racist..........

Now, do they account for the guys who "go pro"? Some of these guys surely would have graduated, so maybe that throws the numbers off a bit.

I'll bet the numbers of minorities graduating from schools with no big name sports programs is quite a bit higher.

I hope this comment was said in jest. Have you ever heard the majority of NBA players speak.

Players are 100% correct to leave college early for the big money in the NBA because NO JOB EVER will pay to start what they will make with a signing bonus in the nba and their salary. But with that said, the average IQ of an NBA player has to be under 100. I'd be willing to bet that it is

don't be an idiot. This isn't a race thing. There are plenty stupid white guys in the nba as well. I just said the majority of nba players are dumb. if you do need a list of dumb white guys in the nba you can add:

chris anderson
jason williams
greg ostertag
bobby sura

i've heard them all speak and they are all not bright. don't go calling me an uncle tom. it has nothing to do with race, the nba as a whole is made up of atheletes that aren't very bright. regardless of color of skin. if you don't think so then that's your opinion, but again if you don't think so then i quesiton your iq.

I could not stay out any longer none of you even have a clue to how stupid the formula is that is used the rate is much higher for all college sports.

1 if you take a jc kid it counts as a player but you can't count him if he gets degree but it is a auto no grad against you.

2 same as a transfer

3 you sign a player he does not like your school and goes on somewhere he is still yours and counts as a no grad.

4 if a jr goes pro say baseball or other sports and leaves he still counts if you signed him and he counts against you gr.

5 if a player drops out of school for any reason he stays on and goes against you gr

6 this is one of the best if a player dies he is counted against gr

7 if a play goes pro and gets degree with in 3 seasons of when he left he does not count towards you gr rate.

so if you take juco players transfers they count against gr even if they earn degree

only true count is if player stays all 4 or 5 year and gets degree or does not get degree. Count juco and transfers and not count players who leave for what ever reason.

college presidents know this rule and that is why the don't say anything about sports teams and their gr if the kids the school brings in do get a degree if a transfer or from a juco or your player from day one and gr true one school keep are much higher, trust me the formula is a crook of shit and all academic people at universities know it.
