T.V. I think you better read Nick's thread again. He states bet $100 flat. That means on pedro he is betting $100 to win $33, on Johnson he bets $100 to win $41.67.

It's called level staking and not unit staking.

Good thread...lots of good points made.

The thing is, most everything is always talking about staying away from the heavy favorites...which can be good or not so good advice as many have shown in here. However, a person shouldn't be betting blindly against the heavy chalk for that reason alone. Also, like some have pointed out, there can be value in some high chalk or high dogs....but again, NONE should be bet blindly for that reason alone.

Nick Douglas brings up the point that the bigger name pitchers lose some value because of how they're viewed by the public...which is true to a degree, but what you also have to understand is the heavy dogs ALSO lose their value to a degree because of the juice. Remember many books will start to have upwards of a 40 or 50 cent line when the line gets that high....your getting value taken away on both ends.

To ndnfan's point:

One thing about the lines becoming 30 or 40 cent lines up over -200 is that the ROI for the book is still the same. Remember that -220/+180 is the same take for the book as -110/-110. In both cases the book keeps about 4.5% of every dollar wagered.

And one more thing. 6.9% ROI is an AMAZING number at any winning percentage. If anyone here was hitting 6.9% ROI over their lifetime they would be buying the A's rather than betting on them.

6.9% ROI for a lifetime would be great.

But on a short term "sure thing" the risk reward isn't worth it.

I agree that many big dogs also lose value because people start to bet just because the price. Probably the best thing to do is concentrate on games that don't have -250 favorites or higher.
