For the fiscally irresponsible (translated as the vast majority of the world), I would rather see them give that interest-free loan than go into bankruptcy because of poor planning.

There's a reason why credit card balances are so big. We might as well not encourage to tack on tax debt to that as well.

Just an opinion. The guy's points are completely accurate, but that doesn't mean they translate appropriately in the course of a person's life.

It's the lazy mans way of saving money..........

With the factors and variables you list... which is about zero, this is a pretty bold statement...

As someone who has danced with the IRS with an internet company some years back, it isn't worth it.

Add in a wife with a small business, investments, and deductions, and the return basically gets taken by the accountant...

"Lazy way to save..."

guess it struck a nerve seeing as I'm getting an estimated five figure return this year although it was unexpected as not caused by federal and state allowances which I believe you maybe referring to... withheld taxes if you will.

Hang on there Homeskillet, for business owners - it is a little different......with a business you have to "settle up" with big deductions, factoring expenses and even then it is quarterly.....

For income taxes though - if you get back 5 G's then something is wrong. You could at least arrange to keep YOUR money and make it work for you instead of working for the government......

Shit.....I could be wrong......BBC?

On the course!
What shape would our government be in without that multi-billion dollar loan each year?

:0008

And to say, "Look at the money you could make if you put $50 a check in the bank", is a bigger slap in the fucking face than telling me I'm a dipshit for getting a refund.

At the whopping 0.15% your savings account will reap you.....That $1,200 you have put away is now $1,201.80.

So, do I give the USA a "loan" like some uneducated pinhead, or do I do the "smart" thing, and give that free loan to a money grubbing bank?

I still love my country a little bit.

Fuck the bank!

You start calling people names and now you're looking for my help?

If you put $25 away in savings per paycheck, then it's better to do that then get $600 back at the end of the year. But if you're doing what Joker does and just buying more app's that you don't need because there's a little more money in your bank account, then you're better off giving the government the loan.

What you should really be doing is estimating where you're going to be at the end of the year in September and modify your withholdings or payments in October. I had 54 dependents at the end of 2008. :0074

Less the additional $250 that you paid the CPA for that gem of 'hidden' information.

I always have to shake my head at the people that think they have made out like bandits when they get a return on their taxes. Couldn't be farther from the truth. Adjust your deductions.
