Love him or loath him, he nailed this one right on the head.............
By Rush Limbaugh:

I think the vast differences in compensation between
victims of the September 11 casualty and those who die
serving the country in Uniform are profound. No one
is really talking about it either, because you just
don't criticize anything having to do with September
11. Well, I just can't let the numbers pass by
because it says something really disturbing about the
entitlement mentality of this country. If you lost a
family member in the September 11 attack, you're going
to get an average of $1,185,000. The range is a
minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7
million.

If you are a surviving family member of an American
soldier killed in action, the first check you get is a
$6,000 direct death benefit, half of which is taxable.
Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. If you are
the surviving spouse, you get $833 a month until you
remarry. And there's a payment of $211 per month for
each child under 18. When the child hits 18, those
payments come to a screeching halt.

Keep in mind that some of the people who are getting
an average of $1.185 million up to $4.7 million are
complaining that it's not enough. Their deaths were
tragic, but for most, they were simply in the wrong
place at the wrong time. Soldiers put themselves in
harms way FOR ALL OF US, and they and their families
know the dangers.

We also learned over the weekend that some of the
victims from the Oklahoma City bombing have started an
organization asking for the same deal that the
September 11 families are getting. In addition to
that, some of the families of those bombed in the
embassies are now asking for compensation as well.
You see where this is going, don't you? Folks, this
is part and parcel of over 50 years of entitlement
politics in this country. It's just really sad.

Every time a pay raise comes up for the military, they
usually receive next to nothing of a raise. Now the
green machine is in combat in the Middle East while
their families have to survive on food stamps and live
in low-rent housing. Make sense?

However, our own U.S. Congress just voted themselves a
raise, and many of you don't know that they only have
to be in Congress one time to receive a pension that
is more than $15,000 per month, and most are now equal
to being millionaires plus. They also do not receive
Social Security on retirement because they didn't have
to pay into the system.

If some of the military people stay in for 20 years
and get out as an E-7, you may receive a pension of
$1,000 per month, and the very people who placed you
in harm's way receive a pension of $15,000 per month.
I would like to see our elected officials pick up a
weapon and join ranks before they start cutting out
benefits and lowering pay for our sons and daughters
who are now fighting.

"When do we finally do something about this?" If this
doesn't seem fair to you, it is time to forward this
to as many people as you can.If your interested there
is more.......................

This must be a campaign issue in 2004. Keep it going.
SOCIAL SECURITY: (This is worth the read. It's short
and to the point.)

Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during
election years. Our Senators and Congressmen do not
pay into Social Security. Many years ago they voted
in their own benefit plan. In more recent years, no
congressperson has felt the need to change it. For
all practical purpose! Their plan works like this:

When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay
until they die, except it may increase from time to
time for cost of living adjustments. For example,
former Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their
wives may expect to draw $7,800,000 -- that's Seven
Million, Eight Hundred Thousand), with their wives
drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their
lives.

This is calculated on an average life span for each.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $00.00. These
little perks they voted for themselves is free to
them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan.

The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly
from the General Fund--our tax dollars at work!
From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay
(or have paid) into -- every payday until we retire (which amount is
matched by our employer) --we can expect to get an
average $1,000 per month after retirement. Or, in
other words, we would have to collect our average of
$1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one month to
equal Senator Bill Bradley's benefits!

Social Security could be very good if only one small
change were made. And that change would be to jerk
the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the
Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social
Security plan with the rest of us and then watch how
fast they would fix it.

Peace,

LL

Your talking little guy vs big guy. Your talking those who make the laws for them selfs. You lose.
Afetr 20 years in the sevice 1000 bucks a month sounds good to many people who work 40 years for same amount. Ya I know we must go off to war and die. But if you hit the right 20 years or get the nice desk job. 1000 bucks for 20 sounds good. As long as I can get $1500 for 25 years. I understand thats going rate. Plus if I reup for 3 or 4 years at a time. Depening on rank and job can get upto $10000 bonus. Military much better deal then it once was. As for the folks at 9/11. Not sure why there regular insurance is not enough. And if it's not add $100000 to it to help. But millions are going to be given away you say. Dam seems strange.
But hey if your waiting for the rich to get poor and the poor to get rich. Don't hold your breath. Even the over taxed rich under Clinton made so much money from 1993 to 2000 it's just smoke about how they lost out. Most doubled and tripled there wealth.
I see you did not even get to all the cuts made last year to Vets programs. Ther is a sin.

Those familys should have had life insurance and that's that. Its their responsibilities to protect their families needs dead or alive. That's what it is for is to protect families against any unforseen tragedy.

If I should die, my agent can proudly present a check to my family and say that their daddy/husband loved them so much that he wanted to make sure that his little girl could have the wedding of her dreams whether or not he could be there to see it, that she could attend the college of her dreams, and that my wife wouldn't be burdened with finances on top of losing her closest friend.

For those who don't have it, their agents can say:"Your mommy/daddy must not of loved you enough to see that you will be taken care of."

The last comment will probably piss a few people off, so don't waste your time resonding as there is no good reason not too have it. Something is far better than nothing, and having nothing is not acceptable.

Didn't most of the 9-11 money come from charities? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that was the case. A lot of people felt for them and gave cash.

As for the military, I have no idea how life insurance is obtained by them, so I can't comment on that, but you have to keep in mind that it's not like they didn't know what they were getting into. They weren't drafted; they joined willingly. The risks of joining the military aren't hidden.

Well, I have a nephew in the service, Michael John (please pray for him), and I know that his wife struggles everyday and I don't mean just financially. It is so sad how we treat our service men and women. They are thousands of miles away protecting us and the gov't pays them a few HUNDRED dollars a MONTH. That is it. It is a disgrace. I don't want to comment on 9/11! But all the parts about our service men and women are true and really need to be addressed.

justinsmom829 I hope his wife is not doing to bad. She should have a little extra liveing amount added into his regular salary. If liveing on base. Since he is in a combat zone most all his check should be coming to her with a little taken out for him. That of course due to he is haveing all given to him while on this duty. He needs very little. He needs some money for a extra pepsi and cigs if he smokes. And maybe some tooth paste. I hope the rest is all sent to her. When I was in they provide everything. So I was able to send home most all my pay for a nice nest egg.

Ok, let me chime in here even though I rarely get involved with the politics side of the house because it disgusts me so much...

Life insurance is offered THROUGH the military the moment you sign up. In fact, even before you actually swear in, you are signing the life insurance papers. Its call the Serviceman's Group Life Insurance (SGLI). The SGLI gives you 250,000 bucks in life insurance should you die while in the military. The cost is $16.75 each month for 250,000. You can also elect any amount less than that in incriments of 10k for less price. You are given the option of having it delivered in a lump sum or equal installments over a 36 month time span.

It is a good deal. Period.

As for the comments about suzy not having enuff money while lil johnny is off fighting the war.... There HAS to be more to the story than that.
How come 90% of military families get along fine with the money we get and 10% cant? Past debt? current debt? that fancy new car? Its called living outside your means. It happens all over america with various classes of families, not just the military.
Pay these days are on direct deposit. The 1st and 15th of the month your paycheck is put right into your bank account for you. If your wife doesnt have access to that money.... its cuz hubby is holding out and blowing it on something else.
If you live out on the town, you get money for that to pay the rent and utilities. If you are coming up short... guess what? get a cheaper place to live. If you are living on base you have the life most people dream of! No rent, no bills, just phone and cable. And you have the stores at no profit prices right down the block from you!

I am sick and tired of hearing this my family is on food stamps BULLSHIT!

Marine hit the nail on the head. If any military family is getting foodstamps, it is because they have 10 kids. Many families come into the military with huge amounts of prior debt, or their 19 year old wife goes to rent a center and finances a computer and a couch for an APR of like 28.75% and runs up the DPP on cigarettes and crap that is not necessary. Most military families live better than their civilian counterparts. You dont' get BAH and Comrats working at Subway or even for the State for that matter. It was amazing how many times I would get the guard mail evelope and have to counsel knuckleheads for bouncing checks at payday loan shops, financing gold they could not afford and car dealers wondering where their 500 dollar monthly note was at on a 1994 Dodge Neon. A married CPL (E-4) makes more than a school teacher with a bachelors degree. Don't believe me? Go to www.dfas.mil. Military pay is good. Most folks are not getting raises in the cilvilian sector these days while the military is getting roughly 4% per year. (It is deserved but I am making a point) And while enlisted pensions may not be huge, you have lifetime coverage under Tri-Care and more than that 1000 Rush was talking about, which is leaps and bounds ahead of what many other poor souls will be getting. How rush fails to mention the 32,000 for college we get for contributing a measly 1200 bucks as a first termer as well . The rate actually goes up to 985 per month in October.

But on the sidenote, yeah the congressman stuff is pretty sickening. I would encourage any parent that have children not considering college to join. You can make a very good, secure, exciting, honorable living with limitless opportunity to join. Gosh I sound like a recruiter???

You folks are right. Both houses of congress are over paid. There bennies are the very best. And retirement pay almost like CEO's of some company. A good place to start for budget cuts.

well, I had some spare time today and sat down and figured it all out.
my paycheck vs my buddies in the civilian world paycheck.

When I factor everything I possibly can into the equation:
free med insurance
free dental insurance
shopping on base tax free and no profit stores
cheaper gas bought on base
housing allowance
cost of living allowance in certain parts of the country I have been
travel costs
and many more

I am an 0-2 paygrade with 10 years served.

If I were to get out tomorrow I would have to have a job that paid me ~$80,000 per year AFTER TAXES to maintain the exact same quality of life.
My current take home pay while on active duty is about 45,000 per year.
The really bad part is, I look at my peer group in the civilian sector that make the same amount and married with child, and they are crying for more money.
