This Week's Movies

Should be interesting with The Santa Clause 2 vs. I Spy. A lot of kids have been anxiously awaiting Tim Allen's remake of the Santa Clause and no doubt it will do exceptionally well as all kids movies do. But I Spy will appeal to everyone and Eddie Murphy movies usually do well (save for that piece of crap earlier this year).

Also I Spy is getting a lot more publicity than The Santa Clause and each will be playing in about 3,000 theatres. My hunch is the line will be The Santa Clause -$2 million or so but it will be intriguing. Also 8 Mile is out next week and the movie with Eminem has been getting unbelievable press. Unfortunately nothing is going up against it so I doubt the books will have anything up since they seem to have abandoned the over/under gross prop in favor of head to head matchups.

Don't you think Santa Clause 2 is coming out TOO SOON????? I am sure this will do well, closer to Xmas. not sure if people are ready (financialy) for the holiday season. I would take I SPY!!!

Actually TJ I was thinking the same thing. December would have been a better time to release it. The Grinch Who Stole Christmas did really well because it was released when it was. I guess they wanted to release this movie early though because they wanted to get it out before Harry Potter ate up all the kids receipts for the holiday season.

It's also relevant to note that The Nutty Professor did over $40 million its opening weekend while The Santa Clause only did $21 million.

If the Santa Clause 2 is favored I'll put a few sheckels on I Spy.

Think that is smart!! Let me know when the line is posted. Harry Potter will kill Santa Clause 2, while the older folks (like me ) will still go see I Spy.

As soon as Potter comes out, SC2 will die. May pick up closer to the holidays. When was the Grinch released? wasn't it near thanksgiving?? (in the US?)

is the bet just opening weekend???
