For what it's worth:

Wells seems to be improving after a few shaky starts and the Pirates are hitting well. Addition by subtraction when Mondesi left perhaps?

I'm on the Pirates for both games. I particularly like game 2 since Rusch is fully capable of tossing an absolute stinker.

Kip Wells has owned the Cubs with a 4-0 lifetime record and a 2.something ERA.

the under is a good play to me

TJ-- Covers has been known to have conflicting and false information regarding the Weather.. Not saying it's the case for this particular game, but certainly possible..

I'm thinking the move may be to sit out game 1, play the opposite of the winner of that game in game 2. Especially if the Cubs lose game one. They have two more games over the next couple days with Pittsburgh, then Houston again. I don't think they lose two here after getting swept by Houston with Houston on deck.;)

Side is a tough one here...Clement has ability to dominate on any given day and Wells has career 1.91 ERA vs. cubs in 9 starts...believe Clement has a livetime 4.3 ERA vs. Pittsburgh...best bet i see is under 7.5...only thing i am playing so far in MLB...I'll force both clubs to score some runs in this contest...Cubs need to get rid of this injury bug or they could be on there way to falling behind in the Central, heck even the Brewers are right behind them...

If the wind was blowing out it wouldn't matter who was pitching, the line would be higher. Not etched in stone but am leaning toward the under in game 1. Good luck

Fellows,

I would be careful about jumping on the Cubs in game 2 if they lose game 1. Glendon Rusch is not a guy I'd want my money on. Two good starts in a row from this guy is not something I'd count on.

Kip Wells since start of '03 season:
- much better @ home BAA: sub .215 @ Home / over .260 away
- much better in daylight BAA: sub .235 @H/ about .250 away
- dominated Cub hitters BAA .237/ Whip 1.04/ ERA 1.52

Cubs depleted lineup without sammy and with rey ordonez in the 2 hole.

Clement pitched 2 hit ball vs Pitt this season @ Wrigley--- where he is a much better pitcher across the board since start of '03.

my consensus site shows Cubs @ over 75%.

I like Wells +123 vs depleted lineup

After capping this game, I have found enough reason to go with the Buccos.

While I realize Clement has been great as of late, I still believe he is much less effective on the road. I also feel he is due for a poor outing. From my recollection, Cubs have also had a history of not producing runs for him. Throw in the fact that they are having to toy with the line-up so much due to injuries, I just don't see them hitting the ball well today, either.

On the other hand, Wells has historically pitched well at home and though the Pirates bats have dwindled a bit, they still lead the NL in batting average. With the Killer W's, the resurgence of Daryle Ward, and the sausage beater himself, Randall Simon being called up yesterday (not that he adds much, but think he helps team chemistry), I like their offensive line-up much better than the Cubs.

I will take my chances on the home team for 2 units at +122.

Good Luck to All,

-JC
