SAN ANTONIO ? In Houston, nearly 2,000 Haitian migrants have arrived this week from the small border community of Del Rio, with buses pulling up to a huge shelter nearly every hour. In San Antonio, hundreds more have been allowed by the U.S. authorities onto flights to destinations as far away as New York, Boston and Miami, paperwork in their pockets permitting them to remain in the country.

About 200 thousand illegal immigrants have crossed the the United States/Mexico border every month for the last few months. Over 1.2 million have entered the United States since March. Let that sink in a minute. So 2 thousand Haitians settling or released in Houston should not be news.

The Biden administration is working rapidly to clear out mostly Haitian migrants from a makeshift camp that sprung up in southern Texas in recent days. At its height, some 14,000 people had converged under an international bridge to Mexico, with families hastily constructing shelters out of reeds and sticks along the banks of the Rio Grande. Food, water and supplies have been scarce for the migrants ? also from Venezuela, Nicaragua and other countries ? as they wait for U.S. border officials to process them. By Thursday morning, U.S. officials had moved thousands of people to other locations, but around 3,600 migrants remained according to local authorities. Many hope to claim asylum in the United States after fleeing desperate situations in their homelands. Instead, hundreds have been loaded onto planes and summarily returned to Haiti, which is reeling from a political crisis and a series of natural disasters, while others have been allowed to stay in the U.S. to pursue their immigration cases.

Alejandro Mayorkas finally admitted on Sunday that 12,000 Haitian migrants have been released into the U.S., claiming that number could go up as 5,000 other cases are still being processed and confusingly says not stopping illegal immigration is a 'proud tradition.' 'Approximately, I think it's about 10,000 or so ? 12,000 thousand,' Mayorkas told Fox News Sunday when asked how many have already been released into the country. 'It could be even higher,' he added. 'The number that are returned could be even higher. What we do is we follow the law as Congress has passed it.
