three night getaway in the Northeast

I live in Northern NJ and i am looking to get away for three nights sometime after xmas. I live about 20 miles from NYC. I am looking to get a hotel in a nice reasonable town within driving distance from where i live. Any1 have any suggestions?
I have heard Newport, RI is nice during this time of year but i have not been there.
