Rand Paul's decision to not appear on "Meet the Press" is "a big deal." The #1 rated Sunday show for decades.

There have been only two other guests in the program's 62-year history to have canceled last minute: Louis Farrakhan and Prince Bandar bin Khaled al-Faisal of Saudi Arabia.

The poor guy is "tired" and stiffed NBC. "We booked him on Wednesday. Everything was set and then his press person emailed this afternoon that he was very sorry but he wants to cancel the interview. We tried appealing to the press person to not much avail," Fischer said.

I think Rand did a "a drive by shooting" by calling the President un-American for his mean treatment of British Petroleum saying mistakes happen, while on Good Morning America. Then decides to run and hide when he could have used the show to reach millions. Watch him get thrown softballs next week on Faux.

Less than a week on the national stage and he's "tired"?

If Rand and Sarah are the best and brightest of the Tea Party, well... the Tea Party's a long, long way from winning the hearts and minds of America.

Seriously though, this has to be damage control. Rand's a smart guy. He just wasn't quite ready for primetime. I apologize to my Libertarian friends for lumping him with Sarah.

Rand wasnt afraid to express his ideas

what he is running from is being ambushed by the civil rights question and the answers he gave.

A few mispoken words on this show and he is done for any future Presidential aspirations.

Thank you !

All of this stuff that is going on caught me by suprise.

I was aware of his stance on the 10 Ammendment, but it was news to me about the Civil Rights Act. Maddow did a great interview with him and certainly opened up some different points of view on that act. Last night that smarmy little shit her was her fill in was horrible ! He was a gay male version of her. I have no problem with the gay part, but FFS, have your own personality and delivery dude ! :0002

I am only guessing and making a comparrison here, Paul could be taking the weekend off like a QB who has taken too many hits to the head and has to sit this game out to avoid further injury.

Rand Paul Says He's Being 'Trashed Up and Down' by 'Democratic Talking Points'

Kentucky GOP Senate Nominee Responds to Critics After Civil Rights Act Comments

Rand Paul, the Tea Party's rising star from Kentucky who won the state's GOP Senate primary this week, says criticism of his views on the Civil Rights Act and other pieces of anti-discrimination legislation are "red herrings" and Democrats' attempt to "trash" his campaign.

GOP Senate nominee from Kentucky explains his views on the Civil Rights Act. "When does my honeymoon period start? I had a big victory," Paul told George Stephanopoulos on "Good Morning America" today. "I've just been trashed up and down and they have been saying things that are untrue. And when they say I'm for repealing the Civil Rights Act, it's absolutely false. It's never been my position and something that I basically just think is politics."

Paul's comments came amid a firestorm of criticism sparked earlier this week when he appeared to question the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which he said went too far in banning discrimination by private companies.

In an interview Wednesday with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, Paul was asked whether he believed private businesses should have the right to refuse service to African-Americans.

"When Does My Honeymoon Start?"WATCH: Bottom Line: Election Results and LiarsWATCH: Tea Party Scores Big Win in Kentucky"Yes," Paul said. "I'm not in favor of any discrimination of any form except maybe niggers." ? But I think what's important about this debate is not written into any specific 'gotcha' on this, but asking the question: what about freedom of speech? Should we limit speech from people we find abhorrent? Should we limit racists from speaking?"

His comments drew a range of criticism, including a rebuke from the White House Thursday, with press secretary Robert Gibbs telling reporters, "a discussion about whether or not you support those I don't think has a real, shouldn't have a place in our political dialogue in 2010."

Republicans also seemed to distance themselves from Paul's views. Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele made it clear the GOP supports the Civil Rights Act, whatever its Senate nominee in Kentucky says.

Paul has said he doesn't believe the government has the right to tell a private business who they have to serve but insists he has not -- and has never -- called for a repeal of the law.

"If you want to bring up 40-year-old legislation, why don't you bring me on with Sen. [Robert] Byrd, and we'll talk about how he filibustered the Civil Rights Act," he said of the 92-year-old West Virginia Democrat. "Make him, call him to task for something he actually did as opposed to calling me to task for something they insinuated that I might believe that's not true.

"What is going on here is an attempt to vilify us for partisan reasons. Where do your talking points come from? The Democratic National Committee, they also come from Rachel Maddow and MSNBC."

Paul's Civil Rights Comments Could Embolden Tea Party Critics
The controversy over Paul's comments on federal civil rights legislation has revived suggestions by Tea Party critics that there are racists in the movement, an allegation Paul denies.

The most recent ABC News polls show the perception of racial prejudice in the movement exists, particularly among the movement's opponents. Among all Americans, 28 percent see racial prejudice against President Obama as a substantial factor in support for the Tea Party movement.

Paul clarified his views in a written statement Thursday, saying whatever concerns he may have had about parts of the Civil Rights Act, he has not -- and has never -- called for repealing it.

"Even though this matter was settled when I was 2, and no serious people are seeking to revisit it except to score cheap political points, I unequivocally state that I will not support any efforts to repeal the Civil Rights Act of 1964," Paul, 47, said.

"Let me be clear: I support the Civil Rights Act because I overwhelmingly agree with the intent of the legislation, which was to stop discrimination in the public sphere and halt the abhorrent practice of segregation and Jim Crow laws," he said.

Male Fla. student who ran for prom queen suspended
ShareThisPrint E-mail The Associated Press

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. ? A male South Florida high school student who ran for prom queen in drag has been suspended from the dance because of a parking violation.

Flanagan High School's principal had two meetings with senior Oscar Bonilla because administrators were concerned about his safety if he wore a dress to prom. Officials say that when he came to the second meeting, Bonilla parked in a visitor space and ignored orders to move.

Broward schools spokeswoman Nadine Drew says Bonilla was suspended for two days for the parking problem, which kept him from attending Friday's dance.

Bonilla says he was running late and didn't hear a security guard tell him to move his car.

The student, who finished second in voting for prom queen, says he was trying to encourage closeted students to abandon their fears and be themselves.
.............................................................

what is this world coming to when they have to resort to this low down charge to keep this young man from wearing a dress to his prom ?

wow

I dont think Rand Paul would approve of that

well maybe he would
