Ryan Harrow is expected to make his first appearance Thursday since the season opener in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Sporting a new haircut as if to signify a new beginning, point guard Ryan Harrow spoke with the media Wednesday for the first time since returning to practice Sunday.

?I?m starting to feel better,? Harrow said. ?It felt good (to be back). All I could do was smile on Sunday when I was at practice.?

Harrow reiterated comments he made to CoachCal.com Sunday about his happiness with the return. The sophomore missed the better portion of two weeks as he fought off an undetermined illness and then left Lexington to tend to an issue with his family.

During the interview with CoachCal.com on Sunday, Harrow said the illness was not mononucleosis. Harrow said he?s always gotten sick around this time of the year, dating back to high school.

?My senior year in high school I passed out and they never could figure out what was wrong with me,? Harrow said. ?Then it happened every year after that. Nobody could ever figure out what happened. It just happens.?

Harrow said the absence had nothing to do with the notion that he was caving under the pressure of following point-guard greats John Wall, Brandon Knight and Marquis Teague.

?It might have played a role in me being sick, but I wasn?t really thinking about it like that,? Harrow said.

Calipari said he hopes Harrow has never thought he had to carry the burden of success of those players because all of his point guards have been different.

?He?s not expected to be those guys,? Coach Cal said. ?Nerlens isn?t expected to be Anthony (Davis) nor was he expected to be Marcus Camby. I coach them all to play to their strengths and try to help them be the best version of themselves, so that?s never talked about within. Now maybe sometimes you think of that yourself, but that?s not what you teach or what we want.?

Harrow?s teammates were supportive throughout the absence.

?They let me know that they wanted me to be back as soon as I could, but they understood what I was going through being sick and having to handle my family thing, so I appreciated that,? Harrow said. ?I keep telling them thank you and kept talking to them while I wasn?t there.?

Harrow played 10 minutes in Kentucky?s season opener, but Calipari said afterwards that he shouldn?t have played him because of the illness. Now that he?s back, Coach Cal said he?ll have to work his way back into the lineup, which Harrow said he understands.

Calipari said Harrow has played well in practice since his return, adding that he might play him against Notre Dame ?just to see where he is.? As it stands now, freshman Archie Goodwin is UK?s starting point guard.

?He?s our point guard,? Calipari said of Godowin. ?He?s earned the position and he?s our point guard. Now, it doesn?t mean he?s our only point guard. Now we have three point guards, which is even better really than having one point guard. You can put two on the court at one time which is even better against zone, against pressing. So it?s good for us.?
