playing rare side/total of the same game.

pepperdine (+18.5) over gonzaga
pepperdine over 158.5

kind of a correlated play. this series has been played at a breakneck pace regardless, whether games have been close or not. but if pepperdine gets down early, they will push the tempo even more. although this is a big game in the wcc, i dont think pepperdine is gonna all the sudden play defense. they havent done it in 5 years. they are what they are: an explosive offense with no defense.

as for the total- this writeup is from a month ago when they had their 1st meeting this season:

======
waves already abhor defense, but when they face gonzaga, its like they dont even give defense a passing thought. the pace of the last four or five games in this series has been unreal. just up and down, 3s from all over the place, and little defense to speak of.

last years meetings:

gonzaga 92 pepperdine 72 (gonzaga led 50-28 at halftime. pepperdine hit 8 3s, gonzaga hit 9. gonzaga shot 54% for the gm)

gonzaga 78 pepperdine 63 (maybe some will remember this game. ostensibly, the final score indicates a defensive struggle. that wasnt the case. just a weird, weird 2h. gonzaga led 51-42 at halftime. 93 pts at half. but a strange 2h led to just a 27-21 2h and ultimately a 78-63 final. zags still managed to hit 12 3s in that game)

2001-2002 meetings:

gonzaga 91 pepperdine 78 (50-35 at halftime. mcgowan goes for 26 in a loss that was closer than the final)

gonzaga 88 pepperdine 79 (nothing special. just your regular old waves/zags shootout. gonzaga again shoots 50% from the field)

gonzaga 96 pepperdine 90 (this was the wcc championship game. defense in a title game with an ncaa berth on the line? lmao. not with these teams. 45-44 at halftime. pepperdine hits 12 3s, gonzaga hits 10)

all in all, if not for a fluke 2h in one of last yrs meetings (game was 51-42 halftime in that one), we'd be looking at 5 straight games where these guys just trade baskets and play matador defense. hell if you want to take it back a year further, the finals were 93-79 and 82-69. these guys just play run-n-gun basketball.

also doesnt hurt that pepperdine is 70% from the line this year and gonzaga is 75%.

I'm on these two plays myself. I added some more on Pepperdine @ +18 +104 on top of the +18 I got at another book when the lines came out.

I'm annoyed I lost some points on the total as I got in at 160.5 & I see it fell to 158.5 when I last checked.

This game has 170+ written all over it.

also played cleveland state (+4) over green bay

as i alluded to in a different post (sports psychic's horizon league post), backing csu is like backing loyola maryland. theyre a bad team. but they should win this game. its their last winnable game of the season, as the final month is brutal and green bay is the most overrated horizon team in my opinion. definitely understandable if nobody goes near this game or if they fade it and play the other side. but having a feel for the program, they should compete, because if they dont, theyre gonna finish the season on a looooooooong losing streak because the schedule is tough in feb/march

vikings get their heart ripped out.......again.

csu hits a 3 to tie it with 0:07 left, but uwgb doesnt call a timeout. pushes the ball up the floor and hits a jumper with 0:02 left to win it 60-58. two meetings vs. green bay, both decided in the final 0:05 and uwgb wins both by a combined 3 pts.

cashed the ticket, but gutty vikings actually deserved the SU win and thats more than i can say for most of their efforts lately.

worth noting: pape badiane returned to the lineup for csu tonight. thats a big impact guy. 7-footer that can block shots and is a skilled big man. wasnt sure if he was gonna return this year. obviously not gonna be his sharpest, but he will help them be competitive down the stretch, even if they drop a handful more games.

the return of the big guy may be some indication as to why that CSU line dropped to 2.5 about 4 minutes prior to the game...

as soon as i saw that ..and saw some of the write-ups in here on them ...i sniffed around a few locals for a 4..and got it...

thanks ..and good luck tonight G..

2nd half:

arizona (-4.5) over california
bears playing out their asses right now. obviously arizona's matador defense certainly isnt helping, but i dont think cal can keep this pace up. theyre not gonna win a game at arizonas pace. also, theres an enormous free throw percentage difference between these two teams. if it gets close late, arizona has a significant edge there

woizee:

thats the caveat with betting pepperdine. you go in expecting them to play no D. you just hope their offense does enough to compensate for their shitty defense. this game should ebb and flow.
