to be honest i think Minnesota has more hockey fans in that state alone then the entire USA...a sens/ducks final would be sweet...with the quacks losing in 5

:nono: HUGE market in LA, most of it untapped, plus 3 hockey teams in Cali.

I would love to see a Sens/Ducks final, given the choices we have. But I'll definitely hedge my Ott futures if the Quacks make it. The way Giggy is playing keeps reminding me of the run Roy had in '86 when he took the Habs all the way in his first playoff appearance, who also happens to be Giggy's idol.

Also, can you fathom watching a NJ/Minn final?? Just thinking about it sends chills down my spine. You Canadians would fawking love that chit. What a ratings nightmare would that be for the NHL and Bettman? I would probably rather watch Oprah than watch that matchup:eek: :D .

Good luck tonite, trade:D

Dub how would americans react to an all Canadian final????

the smart thing for me to do should have been to hedge my canucks bet. i already have 10 units on them in my series so the worst i could do is be even(lose nothing) & the best i could do is be up 10 units, but no team has ever come back from 3-1 TWICE in the same playoffs so i will take that chance. One thing that scares me is it is back to back games no 1 day rest until the next game.

1 thing for sure i am hitting the quacks HUGE on Saturday;)

I can't speak for others, but an all-Canadian Final suits me just fine, as long as I get to watch good hockey:). If the NHL doesn't attract more audience and get more revenues SOMEWHERE, we're gonna see more Buffalos, and Ottawas next yr and after that, too. If an all-Canadian Finals is gonna keep the NHL alive then I'm all for it;)

FWIW, Minny is 5-7 this yr on 0days rest, Vanc is 5-6. Minny is 2-5-2 this yr in 3/4 spots on the ROAD, while Vanc is 3-0 in 3/4 spots at HOME.

I'll be hitting the Quacks, also;)

Good luck tonite, buddy, I'm jumping in with you on the Nucks:D

I'm with dubs on this one TM. People around here really don't care who plays. Most don't even pay much attention once the Bruins get bumped. Only the die hards are watching pucks now. Some are jumping on the Celtics/NBA bandwagon but this town is Red Sox & Patriots. If the other two are playing well, people care. Otherwise, it is just the core die hard fans.

I noticed last weekend in Ottawa, I can't remember how many times I heard people say they want a Sens / Nucks Final. I've never heard anyone say they want two particular teams because they are American based.

=====

dubs- HORNS will back me up on this. My friend said that a NJ Devils vs. Minny Cup final would be the best thing for hockey. You'd have Lemaire and the original trap vs. the Devils trap. Lemaire would have to figure a way to beat the trap - then everyone could copy how to beat it and then it would be gone forever :D

We did have a bunch of beers while discussing that so the theory could be screwy.

LOL, mugsy. I never thought of that. I'd bet every GMs and coaches will be recording every game, while glued to the TV with notepads in hand to watch how these 2 teams go at it. I'm just not a big fan of a 1-0 Triple OT game in the playoffs with the game practically being played between the blue lines. And with a Minny/NJ match-up, we might see 4, 5 of those 1-0 3OT games:eek:. I don't think we're gonna attract too many NEW fans, especially when they're competing vs the NBA playoffs.

In the US most fans wouldn't watch if 1 let alone 2 CDN teams were in the finals. This will be a worst nightmare for the ABC/ESPN. Americans need to identify with a city unlike Canada which identifies(sp?) with the the USA, sad but true. Canadians have shown time after time they will watch any team including a trashers vs bj's final. Hockcy will never be a top sport in the USA so forgot about trying to draw exposure there. Hell the XFL ratings are higher then the NHL playoffs.

Also i think players are paid to much. In NFL/NBA the teams can afford the salaries while in the NHL only a few teams can. I don't think ABC or ESPN will bid for the games next year. I think the NHL won't have a national contract next year. ESPN/ABC has NBA who draws 10 times more(i hate NBA-boring). FOX lost so much $$$ with the NHL they won't do it again. NBC NEVER, there 2 smart. CBS perhaps but i doubt they had the NHL in the 80's.

The main reason Canadians want an all CDN final is simple CDN teams can't compete with the high priced american teams. Simple. funny hockey is a Canadian sport & no CDN team has won it since 93. only 2 states have hockey has not a game but a clut following is Minnesota/Oregon. I have never been to the east side of the US but NJ/Boston have a disgusting attendance record. I don't understand why the NHL doesn't go to a HOT MARKET like Oregon. Don't shove hockey into people who don't want it. Only reason Columbus got a team was cuz the ex owner was bettmens friend in highschool;)

TM - I agree with you on the attendance numbers here on the east coast. I can't speak for Jersey - maybe their fans are bored with the trap :D - but I can speak for myself.

From 1993 thru 1998 I lived in central Connecticut. Went to about 10 Whaler games a year before they left plus I averaged 20 B's games plus playoffs. For a B's game, it was a 2 hr drive one way. No problem. But a real funny thing happened when the Fleet was being built. The ownership realized all the $$ had to go to the new arena. They let the team go down the slide to where they are just good enough not to be awful. They were awful that one year before getting Burns, Joe T & Sergei.

Now, The Delaware North Company cares about the bottom line. It's so obvious it's desgusting. Instead of hosting a possible 16 NHL playoff games - there is Matchbox 20, Madonna and Bruce Springsteen at the Fleet. Plus, the Celtics have to pay rent to play there. Such the deal for the bottom line. Not only are you replacing the 16 hockey dates, with concerts you are filling floor seats too. Even more people to buy cotton candy, beer and souveniers.

The Bruins are putting all their eggs in one "basket" called a salary cap. Harry Sinden & Company have usually been decent evaluating talent - so if the cap comes into play, the Bruins could be a solid legitamate contender again. If no cap - they are done. Anyway, as these changes came about - we all got a little older and smarter here. Ticket prices are some of the most expensive in the country, parking here is a joke. No lie, $25-30 to park at some of the lots. HORNS almost had a heart attack when we told him that one last week.

This past season, I went to 4 games. Three of them were freebies. If those owners based in Buffalo, NY want my money - a lot of changes are gonna have to happen on Causeway Street before I go back full force. Yes, winning is the most important thing to a fan - this isn't grade school. Everyone doesn't get a mini Stanley Cup for trying.

Long winded and I'm sorry for that but there are a lot of people in the Boston area that feel the way I do. Otherwise, the Fleet would be full for B's game every night...Just like the old days at the "Gahden"
