CFB INFO AND PICK:
Two ACC foes that are essentially out of the title race face off on ESPN tonight as the Maryland Terrapins travel to Atlanta to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Both these teams will be looking to solidify their chances of making it to a Bowl. The Yellow Jackets will also be looking to avenge a tough 34-10 loss last year to the Terps as they failed to cover as two-point underdogs.
Maryland enters this match-up with a record of 5-2 and 2-4 ATS. The Terps are coming off a solid 33-20 victory over the Duke Blue Devils, but the Terps failed to cover as big 28-point favorites. The Terps jumped out to a 27-0 lead and cruised the rest of the way. WR Latrez Harrison had a big day for the Terps catching four passes for 88 yards and a score.
The game though wasn?t perfect and things will need to adjust this week. The running game must be more effective, which could be a tall order considering the Terps are facing a strong Georgia Tech defense. They will need a big game from the combo of Josh Allen and Bruce Perry, who only managed 131 yards on the ground combined versus the Blue Devils. A big game by this duo will take some of the heat off QB Scott McBrien who hasn?t been spectacular this season.
Meanwhile, Georgia Tech currently sits at 4-3 overall and 4-2-1 ATS. The Yellow Jackets have played every opponent close this season and nearly knocked off Florida State earlier in the season. When we last saw the Yellow Jackets, they knocked off Wake Forest 24-7, covering as 3.5-point underdogs. The Jackets got a huge game from RB P.J. Daniels who rushed for 176 yards and a touchdown.
The defense has been the story in Atlanta. Week in and week out, the Jacket defense continues to frustrate opponents. The Jackets are ferocious against the run holding opponents to a mere 95 yards on the ground per game and to only 57 yards on the ground at home. This defense has helped keep an offense, led by freshman QB Reggie Ball, in almost every game.
Maryland is currently favored by three-points with at total of 38. The Terps are 16-5 ATS as a favorite over the last three years and is 12-4 ATS following a home game over that same span. Conversely, Georgia Tech is a mere 2-9 ATS at home following a game in which they allowed 14 points or less since 1992. Total players should take a look at the under as the Terps are 5-1 under on the road on Thursday since 1992 and the Jackets are 14-2 under at home in the same situation.
MY PICK: MARYLAND -2.5
