I once heard a pastor talking about those who say they believe in God. "That's fine", he said. But the larger question might be, "What do you do to honor Him?" I have to admit, that made me think.

My thinking is this - If you say you believe in God. That's fine. Chances are, you're life may go on without incident.

But if call yourself a Christian...Like in C - h - r - i - s - t - ian, God is watching you and paying very close attention to your behavior.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever beleiveth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life". John 3:16

Thank you for attending and be careful on your way home.

Here's my take Buddy.........

Here's my take Buddy.........

Jesus chose to die on the cross..he did not have to...

could have gone into the desert......I mean if he was indeed the son of God could he not have done more good alive.to me that was a cowardly act of someone that just wanted to martyr himself.
George says he talked to God and God told him to go and spread Democracy in the Middle East...well all the Evangelicals and Bible thumpers must not love God deep down because they are not volunteering to do what God bid their leader do. So i guess they all think their sons are better than Jesus.

Like Drugs and alcohol religion is just another dependency that a lot of people use interchangeably..get off booze ya turn ta God..cant do any thing on your own.
Not trying to pick on u and i do see a need for religion in the world. If i had a bunch of wild drunk partying unruly bunch of humans on a deserted island
and i needed to establish order the first thing i would do is let every one know that if they don't start towin the line the Big Man upstairs will seek retribution on em in the here after. Every society establishes some kind of Supreme being to maintain order in Society since man by his nature
ain't gonna do things that maintain property family and order. religion also gives a lot of people the strength to survive their miserable existences. Witness Black America during and since Slavery.
I could talk about this for hours....and i am always curious what in a persons life happens that makes him take that "Leap Of Faith" and throw all science reasoning and intelligence out the window and buy into an organized religion.
In closing ..if it works for u go for it!

hammer1 - First of all, I want to sincerely thank you for your reply. It would have been easier to just ignore my post, but instead, you took the time to write and let me know what you thought and how you feel.
I realize making the choice to fully accept and follow Jesus Christ is a very unpopular cause. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." That's a very bold statement. In other words, He was telling everyone within earshot it's all about Him. In effect, when Jesus died on the cross, He was not doing what He wanted to do. He was being obedient to the Father. I think this link may provide a better answer: http://www.answers.org/theology/notmywill.html

I've heard my pastor say, "The greatest event in all of human history was the crucifixion and ressurection of Jesus Christ." You may hear statements like this in church by a pastor, but never by Don Imus, Chris Matthews or Tucker Carlson. Bill O'Reilly? Some of my now Jesus teammates were never in cliques, quarterbacks or honor students. Hey, come to think of it, they're just like me. More weird than not weird. But there are also people who have accepted and follow Jesus Christ who were in cliques, quarterbacks and honor students. I have to admit, when I see these people I often wonder "What event in their life made them choose to follow Christ?" I mean why sacrifiice popularity and comfort for ridicule and service to the Lord? MAYBE, service to the Lord produces a different kind of reward? Hmmm?

It truly is a personal choice, a personal journey.........and as any Christian in the world will tell you.......a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

It's greater than what you could possibly imagine.

hammer1, thanks for letting me get in this little sermon. Great way for me to start my day!

Scott,

Don't criticize anyone who is asking questions about Jesus Christ. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone".

I think you owe hammer an apology because you're older and you know better.

I love you.

"He had to kill Himself????????"
so enlighten me ........ i am if nothing else willing to listen. I have been a listener my whole life..I'm not a Moron and i'm sure u know that and i in no way consider Buddy a Moron. Its a choice he has made and if it makes his life better and him better I'm all for it. Sex Politics Religion and Gambling in that order are my favorite topics.

I am always curious how u can believe the earth is 6000 years old that a Virgin Birth is possible and that a book of fairy tales is guide to life. And how tin the world did all those believers survive in the desert ??

"He had to kill Himself????????"

He didn't kill himself.

Roman soldiers nailed him to the cross and that is where He died. His death was excruciating.

He had to obey the will of His father.

Hopefully, one day you will know because every word of it is true.

Btw, one of my favorites is Jonah and the whale.

Hang in there, hammer.

I apologize for sounding like some kind of biblical scholar here. Fact is, I don't know. But I believe it is.

Hammer, I realize the bible sounds like a book of fairy tales. The parting of the Red Sea, Jonah and The Whale, etc. But what if there existed a dimension of life far different than what our reason and logic could grasp? Do you think that's possible? Do you believe it's possible that a Supreme being, the ultimate good, omnipotent and omniscient, could possibly be in the middle of a war with another powerful force, the ultimate evil, for control of our lives? This is getting to sound like science fiction here and I'm entering an area where I'm not very good. So, I'll leave it here. Anyway, I believe in God and I believe He loved us and this world (His creatons) so much that He gave His only begotten son so that those of us who believe in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life. That........I do believe.
