Ben Sheets' scheduled start Thursday has been pushed back a couple of days due to a sore back.

Good luck Raymond.

BEGINNING THURSDAY JULY 17

Arizona at San Diego (4) 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th

The D?backs continue play well (6-4, +$110 last 10 days), climbing 10 games over .500 at the All-Star break and positioning themselves for a strong playoff run, with Schilling already back and with Randy Johnson right behind him, possibly as early as this week. Their rest of the staff has picked up the slack (3.95 team ERA), with Webb (+$935, 2.44 ERA) and Batista (+$735, 2.81) the standouts. The Padres are going nowhere, so we?ll stick with the visitor as long as the prices are reasonable. BEST BET: Diamondbacks at -160 or less.

Milwaukee at Pittsburgh (4) 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th

The Pirates have lost money to the Brew Crew in earlier meetings (3-4, -$385) and they?ve been a disaster at PNC Park (19-26, -$745) so we?re inclined towards the visitor in this series. They?ve got a pair of profitable hurlers in Franklin (+$1275) and Sheets (+$400) and Milwaukee has posted enormous profits on the road vs. righthanders at night (+$1360), so the Bucs? all righty rotation is tailor made for them. With three evening contests chances are we?ll get plenty of action. BEST BET: Franklin & Sheets in night games.

Montreal at Philadelphia (4) 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th

Injuries have plunged the Expos well off the pace in the NL East, but the Phillies have surged into the playoff picture on the strength of quality pitching (3.55 team ERA, 2nd best in the majors) and can bury Montreal once and for all with a strong showing this weekend. They?ve been dependable against righties (45-31, +$580 with 5.0 RPG) and they won?t have any pesky southpaws to contend with here. We?ll steer clear of Duckworth (6.48 ERA last two starts), but the rest of the starting staff looks like a bargain against the depleted Montreal arsenal. BEST BET: Myers/Wolf/Millwood/Padilla.

Houston at Cincinnati (4) 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th

We have our doubts about the Astros, but the Reds are in the tank (3-7, -$410 last 10 days), thanks to weak hitting (.248 team BA) and the NL?s worst pitching staff (5.46 team ERA). They?ve been manhandled by Houston in head to head play (1-6, -$360) and check in with a paltry 9-15 record against lefties (-$560 with only 3.8 RPG). The Astros have turned a profit with Jeriome Robertson (+$525) and Ron Villone has looked sharp since joining the team (2.70 ERA). Use either if they get the nod. BEST BET: Villone/Robertson.

N.Y. Mets at Atlanta (4) 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th

The Mets have a shot to finish with the worst record in the NL if their recent ineptitude continues through the summer. They lost 6 straight right before the break, they can?t hit (.248 team BA, 2nd worst in the league) and their pitching is no better (4.86 ERA, 12th overall in the NL). The Braves look like an unstoppable force (61-32, +$2170) but they?ll need to take 3 out of 4 to make a small profit at these prices, so why risk getting burned? BEST BET: None.

St. Louis at Los Angeles (4) 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th

The Cardinals do their best work against lefthanders, averaging 7.2 runs per game, and given the condition of the Dodgers in recent days (4-7, -$400), they?ve got some excellent opportunities on tap in this series. LA cannot hit righthanders (33-38, -$1790 with only 3.2 RPG) and won?t see any southpaws against the all-righty St. Louis rotation. BEST BET: Cardinals vs. Perez,Ishii & Alvarez.

Colorado at San Francisco (4) 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th

The Giants have not fared well in their meetings with the Rockies (only 4-6, -$375) but this series takes place at Pac Bell, where Colorado?s overwhelming home advantage is not in place. The Giants are especially effective at home against southpaws (10-2, +$785 with 5.4 RPG) and with Chacon on the sidelines it?s almost certain they?ll square off against Oliver & Neagle, neither of whom appear particularly imposing. BEST BET: Giants vs. Oliver & Neagle.

Cleveland at N.Y. Yankees (4) 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th

The Yankees should dominate the vastly inferior Indians in this series, but there are some potential pitfalls. They have struggled against righthanders at home this year (-$1755) and their run production in recent days have been soft (3.9 per game). Jason Davis has been cleaning up in 2003 (+$780) and will no doubt fetch an enormous price, way too good to pass up. BEST BET: J. Davis.

Toronto at Boston (4) 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th

The Red Sox are looking to make this an exciting second half in the AL East, closing to within two games of the Yankees going into the break (7-3, +$430 last 10 days). The Blue Jays are on the ropes (only 2-7, -$645 last 10 days) and with the exception of Halladay, the righties in their rotation have been dreadful lately (4.97 overall team ERA, 4th worst in the AL). Boston (+$830 vs. righties) should capitalize. BEST BET: Red Sox vs. all righthanders except Halladay

Anaheim at Baltimore (4) 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th

The Orioles have been profitable against righthanders (+$770) but not against lefties (-$955) while the Angels have been exactly the opposite (Angels +$570 vs. southpaws, -$680 vs. righties). since Baltimore is going without a lefty in the starting rotation these days, they have a big edge over the defending champs. But we?ll play it safe limit ourselves to the top hurlers in the home team?s rotation. BEST BET: Ponson & Johnson vs. righthanders.

Texas at Tampa Bay (4) 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th

The Devil Rays have been a profitable item at home against righthanders in night games (+$885 with 5.1 runs per game) and there?s no one who concerns us in the Texas rotation (Rangers 5.95 team ERA, worst in baseball). But Texas has dominated in head to head play vs. Tampa (4-1, +$300) so we?ll limit ourselves to a play on Joe Kennedy (+$255), recently reactivated following a stint on the DL (Texas only 10-23, -$980 vs. lefties). BEST BET: Kennedy.

Detroit at Chicago W. Sox (4) 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th

The acquisitions of Carl Everett and Roberto Alomar signaled an effort on Chicago?s part to challenge for the AL Central title. But they?ve continued to underperform since that time (3-7, -$885 last 10 days), getting swept by the hapless Tigers along the way (Sox only 6-6, -$665 in head to head play). But can we back a visitor with a 25-67 (-$2245) record? No way. BEST BET: None.

Oakland at Minnesota (4) 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th

The Twins couldn?t shake the Royals when they had the chance, now they?ve squandered a nice lead and are staring at a 7 game gap in the lost column, thanks to another dismal run (1-8, -$810 last 10 days with a 6.86 ERA among starters). But only use the A?s if the home team starts a lefty (Oakland 18-10, +$405 vs. southpaws, otherwise it?s best to pass. BEST BET: Athletics. vs. lefthanders.

Seattle at Kansas City (4) 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th

We have a soft spot for the upstart Royals, but they are no match for the awesome Mariners (4-1, +$200 vs. KC) who have excelled on the road (31-+15, +$1395) and against lefties in all settings (22-8, +$1240 with 6.6 runs per game). The home team?s rotation (5.00 ERA, 3rd worst in the AL) won?t be able to match Seattle?s (3.62), the very best in the league. BEST BET: Mariners vs. lefthanders.
