SAN FRANCISCO (Cain) -135 over PITTSBURGH (Duke)

We'll look for the Giants too bounce back after an ugly
loss to the Marlins yesterday, and grab a win against
the hapless Pirates. The Bucs are an appalling 5-24
in road games this year (-$1760) so laying the modest
price of -135 is very inviting. Yesterday's loss to Dontrelle
Willis was SF's first defeat at ATT Park by a lefthander
in 2006 (5-1, +$425 with 6.7 runs per game), and Zach
Duke (-$510) has been inconsistent all year. The home
team has seen improvement from Matt Cain (3.38 ERA
last two starts), so we've got a very favorable situation
with a club looking to fatten up on one of the NL's weak-
lings, and keep pace in the competitive NL West.

Washington team that just finished winning six of seven on the road with Wednesday's victory at Atlanta. The Nationals will take are of the this weary Philadelphia team that travelled across the country after playing the last seven games at L.A. and Arizona.

The Phillies have been winning with pitching as they're batting just .245 in their last seven games and only .250 away from home this year. But I don't see them getting much from starter Eude Brito today. In his 2006 debut (and just sixth professional start) last Saturday against the Dodgers, the lefty gave up six earned runs, nine hits and two walks while fanning none in just four innings of work.

The Nationals counter with rookie left-hander Mike O'Conner, who has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his nine appearences. On May 29, he allowed three runs in five innings of work versus the Phils. He'll be more than ready to face them this second time around and the results will be better.

Washington is playing sound baseball right now and has won 14 of its last 20 overall. Back at RFK, they have the better starting pitcher tonight and they'll score enough to back O'Conner in this National victory.
