Selective Reporting?

We told you about Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick getting out of jail Friday. Thursday, when the Associated Press reported that he had been imprisoned for violating terms of his bond in his perjury case, the AP failed to mention his party affiliation. Kilpatrick is a Democrat.

But back on July 29, when Alaska Senator Ted Stevens was indicted, the AP made his party affiliation clear. The headline read, "Ted Stevens indicted, longest-serving GOP senator." The article included the word "Republican" seven times and "GOP" four times.

Media watchdog Web site NewsBusters.org reports that both "ABC World News" and "NBC Nightly News" also failed to report Kilpatrick's party affiliation.

Fully Booked

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been criticized by Republicans for promoting her new book instead of allowing a vote on expanding domestic oil production. But her ongoing book tour has done little to help sales.

Nielsen BookScan reports that in its first week, the book "Know Your Power" sold just 2,737 copies. Online bookstore Amazon.com Friday afternoon had Pelosi's book at number 1,875 in its sales rankings. And after 89 customer reviews, the book rates at one and a half stars out of five.

Holiday Hangover

Responding to pressure from consumers and staff a Tennessee branch of Tyson Foods and its labor union have overturned a contract that replaced Labor Day with the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr.

The Shelbyville Times-Gazette reports the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union announced an agreement that instead increases the number of paid holidays to include both Labor Day and the Muslim festival. Employees will have nine paid holidays this year instead of eight.

The union originally agreed to make the Muslim festival a holiday at the expense of Labor Day. Last year between 250 and 400 Somali employees did not show up for work on Eid al-Fitr.

Good. F*cking. Lord.

It's good that this "media watchdog" group is here to discover this horrific example of liberal bias.

I mean, really? One guy is a mayor of a town no one want to live in anyway. One is a US Senator in a Senate that currently has a 49-49-2 makeup. Yes, completely the same thing. The idiocy of some of you never ceases to amaze me.

I see it differently --Only an politically blind person would fail to see tie in between the Mayor and O and the rev whom they both were/are affiliated with--and the voting pulse in Michigan pres election--

The Obama/Wright/Kilpatrick Collision
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/08/michigan_the_obamawrightkilpat.html

"And, what does this have to do with Barack Obama? Although Kilpatrick has distanced himself from Obama and Obama has distanced himself from Kilpatrick, they are both inextricably linked to Rev. Jeremiah Wright. And, that is Obama's problem.

The night before Wright imploded in front of the Washington press corps, he was the featured speaker at an NAACP dinner in Detroit where Mayor Kilpatrick gave him a rousing introduction, an introduction shown on local TV news shows. Undoubtedly, some 527 committee or the Michigan Republican Party has that introduction on DVD.

Rev. Wright has already proven to be an albatross around Obama's neck. Obama's support plummeted among white North Carolina General Election voters after TV ads linking him with Rev. Wright were aired during the North Carolina Democratic primary. That plunge in support did not go unnoticed by McCain supporters.

It is very likely that similar ads will be run in key battleground states starting in mid-October. In Michigan, you can bet that the much hated Kilpatrick will be included in the Obama/Wright ads, making them look like the Three Musketeers, "one for all and all for one."

Not only does Obama have to overcome Wright's fiery rhetoric, he has to overcome the Kilpatrick connection, too. Kilpatrick's tremendous unpopularity has fueled latent and sometime blatant racism among Michigan voters, the last thing Obama needs in a key state less than three months before the election."
