I won't "miss" Russert because I rarely follow political news much. But on the rare occassions that I did tune in, he always struck me as an actual journalist which is increasingly rarer and rarer these days.

He usually did not allow sensational entertainment get in the way of reporting. Of course, he had some entertainment value, but he did not let it dictate his interviews.

He was my cousin's direct boss (worked together for 10 or so years), so she is obviously very upset.

The first full-time replacement will get terrible reviews. Call it the "Ron Zook effect".

RIP Tim Russert

Ron Paul was not treated fairly? Total BS. Paul stuck to his ideas and didn't know much more. But I saw that program and he got the same everyone did. Fair!

You need to watch again with your eyes open.

Russert was no journalist. He was an enabler. His show provided a forum for Dick Cheney and crew to lie their asses off about WMD and everything else while he just sat there and grinned. Grinning was what Timmy did best. He was a glad-handing party hack of precisely the type that brought us Tammany Hall.

"There is only one way to look at a politician - down." -H.L. Mencken

A real journalist like Mencken would call Bush and Cheney what they are, a couple of lying s*itbags who have wasted our money and destroyed our good name. He would have laughed at their lies about WMD, and pointed out that the Clean-Breakers behind Bush had scripted the American assault on Israel's enemies. He would have asked Cheney if there were anyone in the Bush administration willing to stand up for America's interests against Israel. Ol' Timmy? He just grinned.

Russert knew where his bread was buttered. He could get away with treating Paul like crap. Paul had no power to hurt him whereas Cheney could deny him access to the latest round of administration lies, so ol' Timmy did what his kind does best: shmooze, suck and swallow.

Paul, even though he was a candidate, actually did the job real journalists are supposed to do - he discussed what we are actually doing in the Middle East in relation to Constitutional powers. And that's precisely the reason Russert and the rest of the clowns hated him. He showed them up for what they are. Power tools. Grinning, spinning power tools.
