TJ, I tried the email but it was returned as undeliverable so I'll just ask you here.

Here is the story. I'm renting a 43 acre ranch in DeLand, but can't get in there until easter sunday. We will be arriving in Florida sometime on good friday and would prefer to stay on the gulf side somewhere close to where you reside for two nights. Are there any somewhat secluded beaches close to you that won't be crawling with many people? I've got to the stage in life where my wife and I prefer a more quiet setting. We have been to Clearwater before and would prefer a spot that offers a bit more seclusion.

We will probably use priceline to grab a room for a couple of nights so I would appreciate it if you could toss a couple of good ideas for cities or places to stay on the coast anywhere from 20 to 60 miles north of clearwater that you think might be what we are looking for. As a side note, being close to a dog track would not be a terrible thing.

Thanks in advance for anything that you can think of, and congrats on your new lifestyle.

Spang u are gonna get a much younger crowd the closer u stay to Clearwater.. If you are wanting an older quieter crowd, I would be staying off the atlantic side, around cocoa beach or south of there, pretty secluded really. But I am sure TJ can give u some places on the gulf side. Clearwater has beautiful beaches, but alof of partygoers.

Spang: There are many places to stay on the Gulf side. Do you actually want waterfront???

Tampa Bay Downs is about 15 miles from where I live. You have Clearwater, Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs, Holiday, NewPort Richey, Port Richey, Hudson, Spring Hill, etc etc. these go from South to North.

Need more details. I will get your email from Jack if that's ok??

TJB,
How long have you lived in FL. Do you like it??
I've seen a lot of the Gulf coast from Naples up to Sarasota.
Just got back from Venice.......I really liked that town and its quiet stretch (miles of quiet beach) close to Manasota key,Englewood and close to Cape Haze/Placida and Gasparilla Island...
Sarasota had lots more to do but was a little zooey for me..
Went down to St Armands for dinner at a crab place..VG I think it was called 'Crab and Claw".......Anyway, I was wondering if you have been to any of these places and wondered how the 'Clearwater, Port Richey area compares??? Fort Myers, North Fort Myers and Cape Coral are just too congested with traffic over the bridges and through Bonita Springs and down Estero Blvd...Tough to get to beaches and they are not the best.????
Liked Venice but its dead...gotta go to Sarasota if ya wanna see a movie??? I guess they're building one in So Venice.
Beaches, sunsets and parks we're beautiful and almost private.
I've heard good things about the Clearwater area but have not made it up that far yet....Just curious as to how you like it as a permanent resident of this area?

I love it here. Clearwater area is nice as well as some parts of Sarasota. Have not been to the places you listed.

Almost year round warm weather. Enough said! :D

Thanks for the replies guys,

Countinguy, I know the area you are talking about pretty well, We love the melbourne/ Indialantic/ Satellite Beach area on the Atlantic side. Never too crowded and a nice mixed crowd. Looking for the same kind of spot on the gulf side if it exists. We will be spending some considerable time at New Smyrma beach via daily commute from DeLand once we get over to the ranch.

TJ please do get my email, I tried the AOL addy for you but it did not work. I don't need to stay gulf-side but would like to be within 15 minutes.I'm not ready for the AARP shuffleboard crew, I just want to avoid the spring break crowd and the noise that follows them. I will value any recommendations that you may offer

Thanks again
