Happy for all Canadians on their $ recovery but would have to question my friend 1836 on stagnant economy--

All time highs set on Dow and S&P this week--2006 had record corporate earnings--record company by back of stocks--if this is stagnant--would love to see more of it :)

Been in market for years and last 18 months best I've ever seen--however admittedly prob only 25% in U.S. stocks

overall it is good when the country currency goes up, however would like it to go at a slower pace.

hurts regions that rely on exports. believe dollar will not go to par this year, still a strong run.

the cdn. economy will slow, Quebec and Ontario will drop, escpecially if the bank raises interest rates a quarter point next month, and the dollar will show its effect soon.

remember the dollar was lower when these numbers came in........

also if the US slows further then we will follow, may outperform but 80% of all exports go to the US so we would follow.

3 second look up Canada and Afganistan. and name me a country of 35 million that is doing more.

thanks

by the way not a bad idea during the good times, to cut taxes. wether it is the liberals in Ontario (provincial) or the conservatives (Federal) the only thing they seem how to do is spend 3X the rate of inflation on expanding government.

would like to see half the money that is going to increase spending to cut taxes.....

note: just paid income taxes...... :scared

thanks

The GST dropped 1% last July. How about getting rid of GST? But I truly don't think that'll happen until people slow down their spending, gov't is making a mint on GST. I have never seen so many people driving around in $60,000 trucks and buying $700,000.00 houses and the Feds love it. If people hoard their cash, they'll get rid of GST in hopes of getting people to spend again.
Anyways, that's my opinion, but I agree with Selkirk on cutting taxes.

I bad thing about our dollar moving up is that the bank of Canada will be forced to raise interest rates, which in turn will slow down the real estate market here in Alberta. Which is bad for me as I'm heavily invested in the real estate out here.
Anyways it'll be alot cheaper for runs down to Vegas.
Hope to see you posting CFL
Take Care Bud !!!!!!

First of all, its 1 not I bad thing about your dollar moving up. Secondly, how much slower could the real estate market get in Alberta? Who the fuhk is moving to Alberta unless you just got sent down from an NHL team? Raise the interest rates? Shoot you better hope it just raises interest in anyone going to Canada in the first place other than those traveling through to get to Alaska. You guys just go ahead and keep buying US products and putting a lime in your Budweiser and we will keep making sure nobody comes ups and scares you from behind. What the hell does Canada do anyway...........seriously????????? Are they part of the United Nations? If they are does everyone snicker when they announce the Canadian Ambassador has something to say? I know I would laugh my ever loving ass off. Hell didn't you guys just have series of Mad Cow Disease breakouts up there? Hell even your livestock is trying suicide to get out of that God forsaken country and your happy. Could be worse, you could be French.

I hope you're not serious saying your economy isnt stagnant????

" In Canada and the US, GDP figures for the month of
March (and Q1) were released this morning. Again,
Canadian figures outscored expectations (+3.7%
annualized GDP growth in Q1) while US figures
came out disappointing (+0.6% GDP growth) with
the lowest growth rate since Q4 2002. The impact
was immediate on the USD/CAD, which continues to
go down through one technical support after
another.
The US Non-farm payroll and ISM manufacturing
survey are due tomorrow. Positive results might
stop the actual trend, but the opposite would lead
to a new, sharp USD depreciation."

To me it looks like stagnant...

I love that you evaluate the lovely growth period of the past 5+ years based on the GDP results of a 3 month period. No offense, 1837, but now I know you aren't an economist. :mj07:

Enjoy Palm Springs big guy ;)

--any thoughts on Green Parties proposal--I'll expect the same spiel to come down from our liberal arm.

Greens' climate plan sees 12-cent tax at the pumps

Jun 06, 2007 04:30 AM
Susan Delacourt
Ottawa Bureau Chief

OTTAWA?The Green party wants Canadian drivers to pay an extra 12 cents a litre at the gas pumps as the price of averting environmental "catastrophe."

Leader Elizabeth May is boasting that her party is the only one politically brave enough to call for carbon taxes that would discourage automobile use and finance other tax cuts that would allow consumers to make smarter environmental choices.

"Right now, the Green Party of Canada is the only Canadian political party prepared to state this obvious reality," May said yesterday. "We will use those carbon taxes to reduce taxes elsewhere."

May rolled out her party's environmental plan yesterday in part to coincide with the G-8 meeting starting today in Germany, where Canada's action on this issue ? or lack of it ? is a major story.

The Green leader had harsh words for Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his announced intentions to be a "bridge" between countries that have signed on to the Kyoto air quality accord and the United States, which hasn't.

"If we stop being with the rest of the world and start siding with George Bush, we are global saboteurs and that's what Mr. Harper is doing right now in Germany," May said.

The environmental challenge is similar to the space race about 50 years ago in which then-president John F. Kennedy said the United States would put a man on the moon, May said.

"He couldn't prove it when he said it. He could mobilize the resources, fix the political will, and engage the public's spirit and imagination in a bold, collective venture," she said. "Surely we can do the same thing for purposes of survival."

May sees the political landscape divided on the environment, with Harper's government on one side and the Greens, Liberals, New Democrats and the Bloc Qu?b?cois, with differences on their degrees of activism, on the other.

Well... it is one month later than expected but we're currently at par with the US dollar!!! :scared In fact, it is costing more US money to get the same in CAD now... Kinda piss off as i had 6K in US that i had to change and 2 days ago, the gave me .9985 cad for 1$ so with 6K i got 5985$ in CAD... Since then it got worse so i guess it is now around 97.5 cents or so for 1$ US... :scared :( Will stick to my US Funds and wont change it again for CAD in a while i guess....

Will buy my new receiver down south for sure!!! :SIB
