Jack....and all
Its Over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I swear that you are going to be so happy that you did this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're a non-smoker now...stay as busy as ya can for the first few days..get out for a walk.... Envision yourself as a hardened non-smoker and do not dwell on the process if ya can! Lotta water helped me..also..maybe it removed some of the toxins..
Fletch would know all about that. Stay strong!

Thoughts to help--
Went to 2 diff hypnotist's if efforts to quit before--and one tried to instill thoughts of how bad smoking was for me--the other did the opposite and tried to instill how much better I would feel.
The latter (while neither worked permanently) was much more effective in my case. Seems positive thoughts trumped the negatives one by significant amount.

...yeah, struggling here too, but i'm not giving in either! keep your chin up, fellas.

...what was rough was no coffee this morning, but i knew that if i drank coffee, the cigg cravings would be that much worse.... it's hard enough to quit smoking, but i've got to give up coffee and alcohol at least temporarily in order not to smoke.... it's like lent.... :com:

I had a hard time with the cigarettes...
I know that they are like bread and butter with coffee and beer...BUT surprise...it was not that bad w/o the cigarettes.........I don't think I could have done all 3 at once...but more power to you.

I'm certainly not the expert on smoking advice, since I've never smoked. But I think dawgball hit the nail on the head.....you are not "trying to quit", you simply "don't smoke". A friend used the same logic and has never picked up a cigarette since.

Best of luck to all you guys who are now non-smokers.
To agent: I love the new avatar, funny as hell!

I just really don't have much choice if I want to stop smoking.... I will have absolutely NO will power if I drink alcohol during the first couple of weeks.... I may try a cup of coffee towards the end of this week, but NO alcohol for at least a few weeks....

Thanks for the support and advice, bear. :)

p.s. Right now I am chewing a piece of gum like I have a vendetta against it....

Monday... 12:40pm and I'm feeling good right now. :mj07: :142smilie

Now seriously... I feel cold, i've drank 1 litre of cranberry juice, 1 litre of water and had 4 decaf teas. I was hurting this mroning when I got to the car and had no cigs anywhere.. , Just came back from the caf at work and I swear I could actually smell all the different foods on the menu. Amazing!!! I know the first 14 days will be hard but.. i think after that it will be easier.

Like someone said above :
I'm a non-smoker. Non-smokers do not smoke.. not even 1.. ever.

I never made it to 51 beers yesterday. I passed out at some point when it became apparent the Texas over would not come in. Then I kept dreaming that Texas scored a ton of points in the closing minutes. (You know those dreams).

Well, I woke up at 3:15 AM and realized I still had an ample supply of cigs. I went downstairs to say goodbye to my old pals. The last encounter was a sweet one my friends. As I dismissed the fetid butt from my lips, I flicked it across the patio and watched it disappear into the grass that already needs mowing. For a moment I thought about retrieving it and putting it in a scrapbook or on the trophy shelf since it would be the last one of a chain of about 300,000 cigarettes I have handled over the years.

This morning I slapped on a nicotine patch and made one of those KOD straws to suck on. I drove for an hour with seething urges creeping through my blood. I drove through a wildlife preserve and secretly hoped a deer would leap out onto the highway so I could plow it down. That way with all the commotion and emergency vehicles and insurance dealings I could bum a smoke amidst all the confusion. But no deer were in sight so I am smokeless for 7.5 hours.

Hang in there everyone -- we can do it!

Good luck everyone...I know you can all do it...I am not far behind...I just wanted to pick a special day that meant something to me...or so my book on quitting tells me to do...it is encouraging to read everyone's posts.

On a previous attempt I tried acupuncture and it worked quite well?worth a try anyway. Obviously not that well seeing as I still smoke but I had quit for 3 months off of acupuncture, but I still think out of all the stop smoking aids it was the most successful for me.

i have 4mg gum in my mouth and a patch on my left arm, drinking a lot of water and i have only stuck my nose in my jar of butts damped with water about 6 times. when the urge gets really bad, stick your nose in a disgusting jar of water damped butts and ashes. it helps.

That is exactly what works me for. NO coffee for almost a week and no liquor for at least 2 weeks. These so go hand in hand.

Put the patch on last night before bed and put on a new one this morning. No cigs for me and only i small craving. Donna is almost home (should be hell :D) and no smokes for her either.

Bought a Vita Mix at Costco. Expensive blender that makes hot soup, ice cream, and is great for juicing. Bought $50 worth of fruit and make these high powered juice drinks. They are ready in case I crave a smoke, coffee, or a beer. Walked 1 mile already today and cleaned my entire deck, chairs, screen, and vacuumed the pool. Haven't had this much energy in a while.

Really think it's one's focus and telling your mind you do NOT want to smoke. you WANT to be healthy. The patch is awesome!!!!

Good luck all NON SMOKERS!!!!!!! :thumb:

Jack, we keep a large Folgers can filled with water on our deck table. When we finish a butt, it goes in the can. After about 5 days or so, it stinks like crap. That is still on our table as a reminder. Soon, the water will turn a moldish color and that's when it goes away.

Hot here and the smell is worse!

BYE BYE CIGARETTES!!! :sadwave: :sadwave: :sadwave:
