On the course!
Well, guys???What can I say? As most of you are aware, I have been scaling back on my wagering, in order to find a better return on my investment. The goal was to save a little cash by betting only on the games I really had an opinion on, and staying away from other types of bets. (Action bets, hunches, half-times, etc.) Although I have still lost money, it has been a nominal amount. It?s a sum that I can live with, though. The thing is, I have lost my interest in sports wagering. I just don?t care about it anymore. For this, I am actually glad. The art of wagering has taken up far too much of my time. I am not happy with this fact. As I mentioned in an earlier thread a couple of weeks ago, I have actually found other things to occupy my time, and gotten a sense of ?life? back. I am simply amazed at how few sporting events I actually watch, now that I don?t wager that much. (I think a lot of you would be the same way.) I have to admit, I could never even stand basketball until I started to wager on it! I just don?t want to spend the time to do this anymore. Like anything in life, when the thrill, or fun, has gone out of the picture, you need to move on. For me, that point is now. I plan on posting a few picks on Sunday?s games, but that will be it for me. I will no longer be a regular here at Mad Jack?s. I will make the occasional stop by to see how the gang is doing, and maybe add a bit of the old funny-bone to a post or two, but for the most part??.I will be gone. I have been amazed at the hold this site has had on me. I never expected it to become such a major part of my life. I have never met a soul in here, yet I feel as if I know quite a few of you. I plan on hitting Las Vegas for one of these Super Bowl parties, so I can, in fact, actually put faces to the names. I would like to thank a shit load of people here, but as always happens, we leave someone out by mistake, so I will just say ?Thank You? to the general populous for making this a great place to visit. Jack can be very proud of the product he has put out.

The one person I will single out, is Jack. You are a saint to run this place for the degenerates who inhabit it. With all of the shit sites out there, you are an oasis. I thank you for making the past two years a little more fun. The knowledge I have culled from this site is beyond what I could have dreamed. You, and your crew, do a hell of a job. Along those lines, I would like to thank the rest of the forum for keeping MJ?s a cut above the rest. Almost all of you keep the shit slinging to a minimum, and are top-notch people. Any other site would kill for this group. I have also seen some unbelievable handicappers here. Again, I won?t name names, as I will surely leave someone out, but we all know the guys I am talking about. One personal note to a guy who I had issue with on a few occasions: You seem like a nice enough fellow, and I feel bad for the bucking of heads we had over past differences. I hold no ill-will towards you, Neemer, and wish you the best. One other person who got more from me than he deserved on one occasion: W Whale, again I apologize to you for the ugly turn of events that took place over the baseball season with our league. For the rest of you??.all I can offer, is one last bit of advice:

Don?t let gambling take over your life. I forgot what was outside the realm of this ?world?, and never even realized how unhappy I was. My eyes have been re-opened, and I am thankful. My family, friends, and other activities, were all shorted by my desire to gamble on sports. Like George Bailey, in ?It?s a Wonderful Life?, I was given a second chance. I?m not going to blow it. If any of you have second thoughts about why you are gambling, or how much time/money you are going through, please take a step back. Wagering is not a bad thing, but it CAN be. I only ask that you remember this.

As Johnny Carson said on his last show: ?I bid you all a heartfelt, good night.?

Eric

Best of luck, yyz. Gonna miss your smart-ass remarks and humor, seriously. You hit the nail on the head, though. Can't let gambling become the biggest part of your life (well, except fletch

, very few of us can pull it off), which I admit, on occasions has had my priorities flipped up-side down. Take care, and come back to visit, for sure.

YYZ has been one of MadJackSport's most passionate and dedicated handicappers for a very long time. While I am deeply saddened that he may no longer be with us, and disappointed that I will no longer be able to learn and be entertained by his many musings on the Message Forum, I congratulate him on his decision to go into semi-retirement from spots betting. It takes a lot of courage to share your true feelings with people -- even complete strangers. YYZ has done just that. Reading YYZ's comments in this thread, we are all reminded once again that although many of us have never met, we are an extended family with common interests and goals. One goal we all share is to be happy. Ultimately, some us us will find this road to happiness in differnet ways. Some will involve gambling and some will not. I wish YYZ much success and the happiness he deserves. I also want to thank him for his immensely rewarding posts. We are all better and wiser for having YYZ with us while he was here.

YYZ,good luck and you are 100% right,if you are going to gamble, you gotta do it with $$ you can afford. If you have lost all reason to watch and gamble,CONGRATS. You at least see it as it is.
I know many cronic players and they have lost everything, yet they still bet.
Good luck with your life ,betting should be low on your priority list of things to do .
Hang in there,Spanky....

No hard feelings here, I put that little spat on the backburner many many months ago. Seems as though you've been enlightened on the stuff that REALLY should matter in your life. I hope you find that happy medium where you can balance the art of gambling with that thing they call "LIFE".

I share many of the same feelings you do about this place, you just seem to express them lots better than myself. It will consume your life if you let it, cuz I traveled that road nearly 2 yrs. ago. I looked up one day and a whole year had passed in which I basically dedicated all my spare time to gambling on sports. Needless to say, my feelings of self-worth were at an all-time low, especially adding in the factor that I continued to lose money in most of my accounts. It will consume you if you let it, and thank the good Lord that I finally opened my eyes to this. Hopefully, I've been able to find that comfortable balance between the two. I will tell ya this, my wife & kids are happier,as well as myself. This is a truly great place to meet with other people that share the same desire. Just like anything, it should be done with moderation and good sense.

I'm sure we'll see ya around cuz it's harder to leave this place than ya think!

Enjoy your new life. I too have been where you were and I too am where you are. I still must play on occassion, but looking at tickers for days on end and rooting against my favorite teams or pulling for an enemy are in the past. This place is still a place I'll visit several times a week, probably til' I die

Very, very interesting post yyz. I would like to deeply thank you for what would be termed in some circles as a 'personal testimony', it takes courage. I will keep this post of yours and promise myself to read it at least once a month, to put things in proper perspective.

This summer I decided to quit gaming for a while, which ended up being 3 months of baseball season. It's friggin' amazing how much I accomplished during that period, plus I found that I did, indeed, feel better personally. Eventually, boredom led me back to gaming.

Best Wishes

Mr. YYZ!

Although we have never physially met or chatted in this fine forum, I must commend you on your COURAGE to take this meaningful step in your life!

Most people ignore the OBVIOUS symptoms of their compulsive behavior, and as a result, they subject themselves, their families, their loved ones, and their friends to destructive tendancies!

It appears you have recognized that you are a compulsive gambler, and I sincerely wish you Godspeed in your recovery! I mean that from the bottem of my heart!

Good luck to you in your future, and I wish you the best in the remainder of your life!

I've taken the liberty of posting the folowing information for the benefit of the forum, and perhaps after reading it, others will follow you in the brave path you've chosen!

???????????????

Gamblers Anonymous offers the following questions to anyone who may have a gambling problem. These questions are provided to help the individual decide if he or she is a compulsive gambler and wants to stop gambling.

TWENTY QUESTIONS

1. Did you ever lose time from work or school due to gambling?

2. Has gambling ever made your home life unhappy?

3. Did gambling affect your reputation?

4. Have you ever felt remorse after gambling?

5. Did you ever gamble to get money with which to pay debts or otherwise solve financial difficulties?

6. Did gambling cause a decrease in your ambition or efficiency?

7. After losing did you feel you must return as soon as possible and win back your losses?

8. After a win did you have a strong urge to return and win more?

9. Did you often gamble until your last dollar was gone?

10. Did you ever borrow to finance your gambling?

11. Have you ever sold anything to finance gambling?

12. Were you reluctant to use "gambling money" for normal expenditures?

13. Did gambling make you careless of the welfare of yourself or your family?

14. Did you ever gamble longer than you had planned?

15. Have you ever gambled to escape worry or trouble?

16. Have you ever committed, or considered committing, an illegal act to finance gambling?

17. Did gambling cause you to have difficulty in sleeping?

18. Do arguments, disappointments or frustrations create within you an urge to gamble?

19. Did you ever have an urge to celebrate any good fortune by a few hours of gambling?

20. Have you ever considered self destruction or suicide as a result of your gambling?

Most compulsive gamblers will answer yes to at least seven of these questions.
