hey TO, if you happen to read this, get my email from jack and i'll be sure to get you the right meds so you won't drop the ball again.

Police report: Terrell Owens attempted suicide
09:40 AM CDT on Wednesday, September 27, 2006
By REBECCA LOPEZ / WFAA-TV

According to a Dallas police report obtained by News 8, Dallas Cowboys star receiver Terrell Owens attempted suicide Tuesday night.

The report says Owens, 32, was depressed and reportedly took prescription pain pills. Owens broke his right hand in a Sept. 17 game against the Washington Redskins.

A woman told police she observed Owens putting two pills in his mouth.

According to the police narrative, the woman said the prescription of 40 pills was filled on September 18 and?until Tuesday?Owens had taken only five pills.

The police report said Owens was asked if he had taken the rest of the prescription; Owens said, "Yes."

According to the report, police also asked if he was trying to harm himself. Owens answered, "Yes."

Owens was treated at Baylor University Medical Center.

"This is stunning news; obviously and incredibly surprising that a man in this position would reach this level of depression," said WFAA-TV sports director Dale Hansen. "There's something terribly wrong here, and hopefully we'll find out as the day goes on."

Hansen said a source at the Cowboys' Valley Ranch headquarters told him that doors to all offices were closed.

A Dallas Cowboys spokesman told News 8 the team has no comment on the police report, nor is any news conference scheduled.

The player's publicist didn't immediately return calls for comment.

Owens, one of the league's top receivers during his 11-year NFL career, is best known for wild stunts on the field and other publicity-seeking antics off it.

When the Cowboys signed him to a $25 million, three-year deal in March, they said their background checks indicated no red flags. In fact, team consultant Calvin Hill?who mostly deals with troubled players?said during training camp that his department was not involved with Owens because he didn't have a history of those kinds of problems.

Dallas police officials said they were planning a news conference later Monday, but did not immediately release a time. A hospital spokeswoman said early Wednesday there was no patient registered as Terrell Owens, although federal privacy laws allow people to block their name from being released.

I bet he is gay. the whole jeff garcia thing was a deflection technique. A radio station had that packer/vikings guy (somonian guy) who is gay on their show a few months ago and he said you would be shocked at some of the players who hit from the other side of the plate.

I saw TO at out at Ghost Bar here in Uptown Dallas before the season started. Of course he was roped off in the VIP section, but i remember thinking how isolated he looked. Its amazing how uncomfortable in his own skin he seemed. It was not the cocky TO i saw on tv but someone who looked awkward in social situations. He wasn?t really smiling he just looked ready to leave.

My buddy i was with thinks hes gay cause he wasnt talking to any of the women that were trying to get in the VIP section.

Just saw interview with police chief and he would not comment on suicide. I have my doubts on suicide! Who called parameds--would be 1st clue .
If someone other than him-- would opt for overdose--if he called would opt for "attempted" suicide with sympathy/attention as motive. IMO

wow.
very surprised to read some comments from a few posters whom i have a good deal of respect for (nevertease, bdb among others)

normally i avoid these kinds of threads, or at least replying in them, because they elicit such visceral emotions from people and these are discussions better fit for in-person as opposed to over the net.

now ill preface it by saying that suicide is definitely a cop out of any situation.

but plenty of people who need legimate help try to use an overdose on pills as a cry for help.

is some of it for attention?
yes. absolutely. in most cases, it always is.

its touchy because owens always does a lot of stuff for attention. but anybody who knows the background of this guy knows he has always been insecure and mentally fragile.

money can cover up a lot of insecurities. catching hundreds of passes can cover up a lot of insecurities.

but in the end, he's always been a guy who is very sensitive to what people think about him. and if you take what reporters and authors have said about the way he was growing up, it adds up to somebody who just might need a legitimate help.

im not a big soapbox guy and everyone is entitled to their own opinions on more serious matters like this.

but i do have to say im awfully surprised that of ALL people, a forum of gamblers isnt more sensitive to this kind of topic.

because a lot of people could go 100-0 in their next 100 bets, win 200,000, get a payout from pinnacle the next day

.... and still not feel good about themselves at the end of the day because of personal and/or depression issues. so many use gambling as a cover up or facade to distance themselves from self-esteem problems that they'd rather ignore for a couple of hours while the football and baseball games are being played.

so i dont give a shit how many chances TO has gotten in his professional career.

and while hes a great receiver, hes also an asshole for a teammater. and he has definitely caused a lot of headaches.

... but all that really doesnt matter.

the chronology and story of the guys life leads me to believe that his "public cry for help" .... is actually a true cry for help, if that makes sense.

Looking kind of true now. Of course the damage control media tour will be in full effect shortly. Even if he did it will spun into a misunderstanding or he accidentally took an overdose. Hell even Jesse Jackson may jump on this bandwagon. I can here it now pooooooooooooooor T.O., he has been so misundertsood in life by everyone blah, blah blah, blah. I agree with Bleed get it over with I know I won't miss him and I am sure many in the league wouldn't.. This guys a headcase and why people in the NFL and the sportsworld continue to kiss his ass is beyond me.

Gman I see what your saying but I am sorry I have no sympathy for a man who has been given an opportunity in life that 99.9% of the population will never get. If he has issues then were is his so called friends, family, teammates, agent. Life is never that bad I don't care how bad u think it is. This is a touchy subject for alot of people I am sure. My problem is not actually the fact that he MAY and I repeat may have tried to commit suicide but the fact that many have kissed this guys ass for years when he should have been tooken aside and given a good ass wipen by someone. It has always been me, me, me, me with T.O. Maybe I am being somewhat cruel but I think he is a true wack job. And this would only confirm it.

Now there are reports of Philly being concerned about his mental state and even S.F.. This story is really starting to come together. Gman I respect your opinion and yes it is a very sensative subject for most. But man you gotta think this guy has had several issues etc. All I can say is you can lead a horse to water but u can't make it drink. And if they tried to help him and he denied then what can u do?

T.O. is reportedly laughing at the reports that he tried to commit suicide. He says he will have a press release in the next couple of hours. Deion Sanders reported this to the local news media.

I was hoping to learn more today, but no one is returning phone calls and I have class the rest of the day. Curious as to what really happened.
