Two Auburn football players face misdemeanor harassment charges for allegedly slapping and pouring beer on a university student at an off-campus party last weekend.
Running back Demontray Carter, 21, and wide receiver Reggie Worthy, 20, turned themselves in Monday afternoon and were immediately released on bond, according to police spokeswoman Drucilla Cooper.
Cianisha Freeman, 19, filed the complaint with Auburn police over the weekend.
Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville was out of town and unavailable for comment on Tuesday. Sports information director Kent Partridge said athletic department officials were still trying to find information on the alleged incident and could not comment.
Carter, a junior, started six games last season, and was the Tigers' second leading rusher.
Worthy, a sophomore, sat out last season for academics. He emerged from spring practices as a starting wide receiver.
A court hearing was set for May 20 at Auburn Municipal Court.
Off-the-field problems have plagued the Tiger program for the past year. Last month, receiver and punt returner Clifton Robinson was charged with second-degree rape for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old girl. A hearing is scheduled for May.
Last year, former receiver Robert Baker was convicted on cocaine trafficking charges and defensive back Martavius Houston was kicked off the team for unspecified violation of team rules by then-coach Terry Bowden.
At about the same time, two other players were questioned by police then exonerated about the reported break-in and theft of $60,000 in cash and jewelry from an Auburn businessman's home. Neither player was arrested.
Yeah, those Auburn football players are class acts.
