Also heard Muschamp is the man. There goes the "head coach in waiting" title.:142smilie Probably figured he would be "waiting" for too long.

agree i heard that also...if true think it's a great hire.....better than getting a re-tread coach...

just saw where Muschamp has denied taking the Auburn job and has not interviewed for any other jobs. These coaches and universities play too many games with the media.

From this morning:

Muschamp just issued the following statement ...

"I have not interviewed for any jobs. I'm not interested in any jobs. I'm happy here, my family loves Austin and I'm going to be at Texas."

tuberville said he wasnt leaving oxford unless it was in a pine box...

saban repeatedly said he had no interest in the alabama job...

i'm not saying its going to happen, but do you honestly believe him?

Yes-primarily bc he hates the AD at Auburn. Supposedly he called the AD and told him to quit putting false stories out about him.

I hope Muschamp stay at Texas so he's available as a candidate for the LSU HC job once Miles is fired after next season.

Wishful thinking, or do you really see this happening vis a vis Lesticles?

Also, I've been meaning to ask if you could elaborate on some comments you made several days ago about opposing coaches openly mocking his defensive strategies....man, I would love to hear more about that.

You've seem to have done a complete 180 on Less over the last year or so....whats changed.....did they underachieve that much this year in your eyes?

Thanks and I will hang up and listen.

Iowa State's Gene Chizik will be the next Auburn coach, Rivals.com has learned.

Gene Chizik is the new coach at Auburn.
Chizik has been the coach of the Cyclones the last two years, compiling a 5-19 record. Iowa State finished 2-10 (0-8 in the Big 12) in 2008. Chizik was defensive coordinator at Auburn from 2002-04, helping the Tigers go 13-0, win the SEC championship and finish ranked No. 2 in the nation. That year, he won the Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach.

Auburn is replacing Tommy Tuberville, who coached the Tigers for 10 seasons. Tuberville compiled an 85-40 mark (52-30 in the SEC) with four SEC West championships and an SEC title in 2004. But the Tigers slumped to 5-7 in 2008 and missed the postseason for first time since Tuberville's debut campaign in 1999.

Prior to taking over Iowa State, Chizik was defensive coordinator at Texas from 2005-06, helping the Longhorns forge a 12-0 record in 2005 en route to winning the national championship.

From 1998-2001, Chizik was defensive coordinator at Central Florida. He also has served on staffs at Stephen F. Austin (1992-97) and Middle Tennessee State (1990-91).

Chizik, 46, is a native of Clearwater, Fla., and a 1985 graduate of Florida - where he played linebacker

I'm sure Urban Meyer, Nick Saban and Mark Richt are shitting in their drawers over this one. What an uninspired hire. I predict multiple 7-4 type seasons at Auburn. How does Gene Chizik exite you if you are a blue chip prospect next to the other studs in this conference.

7-4 if they schedule weak OOC. I'm thinking cellar dwellers in the west behind Miss St and right above LSU;)
