Tons of NBA Betting Choices Tonight

Friday?s are now dominated by professional basketball for wagering pleasure and all but four teams will be in action this evening. Two games in particular standout, Phoenix at Atlanta and Orlando at Portland, both on ESPN. Here is an in-depth at each with reasons to consider the side and total.

Suns at Hawks 8:00E

The Phoenix Suns have been struggling on the road for more than a month, and recently they?ve displayed an inability to protect leads. Atlanta might not be the best place to remedy either of those troubles. In a matchup pitting two of the league?s top offenses, the Suns will try to bounce back from their latest loss Friday night against a Hawks team seeking its fifth win in six games.

For more than a week, Phoenix (24-15, 20-18-1 ATS) has been getting off to fast starts, only to see its intensity dissipate as the game progresses. This trend started Jan. 5 at Sacramento, when the Suns led by 20 in the second quarter only to let the Kings rally and tie the score in the fourth. They ultimately pulled out a 113-109 victory.

A similar scenario has occurred in each game since.

The Suns blew all of a 16-point lead in a 118-110 win over Houston on Jan. 6, squandered a 20-point advantage in last Friday?s 109-105 loss to Miami and let a 24-point lead get away before rallying to beat Milwaukee 105-101 on Monday.

Phoenix was again unable to protect a 24-point lead Wednesday at Indiana, and wound up suffering a 122-114 loss.

?It is alarming for us,? Suns forward Grant Hill said. ?We have to figure it out, stay together, and try to improve. The only way you get there is as a unit. We?re good enough to get up big, but we have to get better at managing those leads.? The Suns have been outscored 129-97 in the second halves of their last two games and are 23-36 ATS when playing against a team with a winning record over the last two seasons.

?We?ve got to find some kind of resolve to come away with a win in these situations,? coach Alvin Gentry said. ?We gave up 70 points in the second half (Wednesday) and obviously you can?t do that. We?ve got to keep playing and get this worked out. We have to figure out why we have bad stretches. We need to play ourselves out of this situation and I have total confidence we?ll do it.?

Steve Nash had 20 points and nine assists in 27 minutes Wednesday despite missing the entire second quarter. He got seven stitches in his upper lip after taking an elbow from the Pacers? Earl Watson.
The loss in Indiana opened a four-game road trip for the Suns, who have dropped eight of nine (3-6 ATS) away from Phoenix since Dec. 1. They are, however, continuing to pile up the points.

Phoenix is averaging 118.0 points in its last three road games and its 106.3 road scoring average leads the league. With the Suns defensive shortcomings of late, they are 13-3 ATS after allowing 120 points or more. They may need to light up the scoreboard at least that much against a Hawks team that?s plenty capable of scoring in its own right.

Atlanta (25-13) ranks fourth in the NBA with 108.2 points per game at home, helping produce a 15-4 record at Philips Arena. Atlanta is the best bet in the NBA at 26-12 ATS and also has the finest home spread record at 14-5.

The Hawks opened a season-high five-game homestand with Wednesday?s 94-82 victory over Washington, their third straight home win and fourth victory in five games overall. Joe Johnson scored 24 points and Jamal Crawford added 22 in a game Atlanta led by as many as 22. Johnson seems to have put a disappointing stretch behind him, averaging 30.0 points on 50.0 percent shooting in his last two games after averaging 9.5 and shooting 28.0 percent in his previous two.

Johnson, who spent 3 1/2 seasons with the Suns from 2002-05, didn?t have much success against his former team last season. He averaged 13.0 points and shot 22.0 percent as Phoenix swept the two-game series. Johnson?s club protected the ball well against the Wizards in last outing and is 16-5 ATS after committing eight or less turnovers over the last two seasons.

Sportsbook.com has the Hawks favored by four, with 217.5 total. They are 10-2 ATS versus shooting teams making 46 percent or more of their shots this season and 8-1 OVER at home against clubs allowing 99 or more points a game this season, winning by supersized 13.9 per game.
Phoenix has floundered this month, sporting a 5-15 ATS record in January games the last couple of years and is 12-3 UNDER after allowing 100 points or more three straight contests thru 39 games.

Atlanta has lost three straight to Phoenix and nine of the last 11 meetings (5-6 ATS) and is 4-9 and 5-8 ATS as host since 1996.

Magic at Trailblazers 10:30E

The Orlando Magic had one of the league?s best road records last season, but they?ve been dreadful away from Amway Arena of late, losing seven of nine (2-6-1 ATS) following eight consecutive victories. Perhaps a trip to Portland will get them back on track - particularly if two-time All-Star Brandon Roy can?t go.

The Magic try to become the only team with an active four-game winning streak at the Rose Garden on Friday night against the injury-riddled Trail Blazers, who with one more loss will eclipse their home total from last season.

Orlando (26-13, 19-18-2 ATS) was 27-14 on the road in 2008-09, and came up with five more key victories on opponents? home courts before reaching the NBA finals.

The Magic started 10-2 on the road this season, but have hardly been the same team lately. Orlando opened its four-game road trip with an impressive 109-88 win in Sacramento on Tuesday, but was outscored 65-44 in the second half of a 115-97 loss to Denver one night later in its third straight game without Vince Carter. ?We clearly got totally dominated in the second half,? coach Stan Van Gundy said. ?I?m very disappointed.?

Dwight Howard was held to eight points on 1 of 7 shooting a night after dominating the Kings with 30 points and 16 rebounds. The Magic fell to 6-8 when Howard is held to seven field-goal attempts or fewer and they are 3-7 ATS in last 10 against teams with winning record.

Matt Barnes scored 28 points and has averaged 14.7 while shooting 60.0 percent in nine games since moving into the starting lineup, but Orlando needs more from Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson.
Lewis has averaged 9.9 points on 34.3 percent shooting as the Magic have gone 2-5 SU & ATS over their past seven games, and Nelson?s been held to 7.8 points over his past four while shooting the exact same percentage. ?If we can?t get Jameer and Rashard going we?re going to struggle,? Van Gundy said. ?I?ve got to find a way to get them going more offensively or we?re going to struggle offensively against good teams.? Possibly Orlando?s pride will shine through after being hammered by the Nuggets, since they are 20-7 ATS after losing by 10 or more points.

Carter, whose status going forward is unclear, went 1 of 14 when Portland (24-16, 21-18-1 ATS) visited Orlando on Dec. 19, but Howard?s 20 rebounds - part of a 54-35 advantage overall - helped the Magic overcome 42.1 percent shooting and 33 points from Roy to win 92-83.

That was Orlando?s sixth victory in seven games in the series. The Magic have won three straight in Portland, including a 109-108 win on Dec. 9, 2008, behind 27 from Lewis and 21 from Nelson.

Cleveland is the only other team with three consecutive wins in the Rose Garden after beating the Blazers 106-94 on Sunday, a seventh home loss that matched last season?s total in Portland.

The Blazers, though, bounced back with one of their best offensive performances of the season. Roy scored 22, LaMarcus Aldridge 21 and Andre Miller 19 as the Blazers shot a season-high 60.3 percent in a 120-108 win over Milwaukee on Wednesday. Roy, however, left with Portland up 30 late in the third quarter due to a strained right hamstring.
He?s considered questionable to play Friday. Portland is also a questionable 2-7-1 ATS after allowing 100 or more points.

?(The hamstring has) seen better days,? Roy told the NBA?s official Web site. ?It kind of grabbed on me a little bit, and I went downcourt and we were up 30, and I said, ?Coach, I don?t have to play anymore. Could you maybe keep me out?? It was pretty sore.?

With Roy?s status still undetermined, no line has been established. The Blazers have been alarming on Friday night?s with sparkling 11-2 ATS of late and 7-2 OVER if opponent has overall winning record. Orlando has covered 60 of previous 89 contests off a SU defeat and is 19-7 UNDER in that same situation.

Power Line ? Atlanta by 4, Portland a Pick

Friday Night Card

Friday Night Card

Friday Night Card

The Friday NBA card is loaded with 13 games on the slate with seven interconference battles taking center-stage. Several of the intriguing matchups include Phoenix heading to Atlanta and Orlando continuing its road trip in Portland against the Blazers.

Spurs (-2, 188 ?) at Bobcats - 7:05 PM EST

San Antonio continues to stay on fire, winning 15 of the last 19 games, as the Spurs head to Charlotte to take on the Bobcats. Larry Brown's team continues a season-high six-game homestand after beating the Grizzlies and Rockets.

Charlotte has been one of the best home teams in the NBA, going 14-4 SU and 11-7 ATS, while winning each of the last five. The Bobcats are just 3-3 SU/ATS as a home underdog, with losses to the Magic, Blazers, and Celtics.

San Antonio is coming off a pair of solid wins on a back-to-back, knocking off the Lakers at home followed by an overtime victory at Oklahoma City on Wednesday. The Spurs' win over the Thunder came without Tim Duncan in the lineup, but rookie DeJuan Blair stepped up with a 28-point, 21-rebound effort.

The Spurs have owned the Bobcats over the years, going 9-1 SU and 7-2-1 ATS, including a 104-85 victory at the AT&T Center on December 11.

Kings at Sixers (-3, 207) - 7:05 PM EST

Sacramento begins a six-game East Coast swing in Philadelphia against the Sixers. The Kings have hit the skids lately, dropping eight of ten games, while going 2-7-1 ATS. The good news for Paul Westphal's club is leading scorer Kevin Martin is expected to return to the lineup after missing two months with a wrist injury.

The Sixers are coming off a one-point home loss to the Knicks, moving Philadelphia's record to 3-15 ATS at the Wachovia Center. Eddie Jordan's squad has been playing better as of late, compiling a 5-4 SU/ATS mark, including a 116-106 victory at Arco Arena on December 30. However, the Kings were playing without Martin and star rookie Tyreke Evans in that game.

Sacramento has struggled mightily at home over the last month, but the road is where Kings' backers make their money. The Kings are 8-2-1 ATS the last 12 as a road underdog, with three losses by two points or less.

Suns at Hawks (-4 ?, 217 ?) - 8:00 PM EST

Phoenix and Atlanta hook up for the first time this season, as the Suns try to bounce back after blowing a 24-point lead in a loss at Indiana. The Hawks have found their way following a four-game skid by winning four of five.

Mike Woodson's team has responded well playing a team off a defeat, especially at home. Atlanta is 9-3 SU/ATS in that spot, including a 4-1 SU/ATS mark as a single-digit favorite. The Hawks are 14-5 ATS at home, with a 4-1 SU/ATS ledger against the Western Conference.

The Suns are a strong 11-3 SU following a loss, but are 3-6 ATS the last nine on the road. Phoenix is 8-2 SU the last ten meetings against Atlanta, however, the Suns have been listed as an underdog only once in this span, a 104-99 victory over the Hawks at Philips Arena last season.

Hornets at Pistons - 8:00 PM EST

Detroit will go for its second straight victory after a 13-game losing streak, hosting New Orleans at the Palace. The Pistons beat the Wizards, 99-90 in D.C. on Tuesday, the first win for Detroit since December 12. The Hornets have been on fire recently, winning seven of eight while covering six times.

You would think during the 13-game skid that the Pistons would manage even a handful of covers, but that wasn't the case for John Kuester's team. Detroit cashed in a SU loss only one time, in a 98-93 setback at Dallas as 8 ?-point 'dogs. The Palace isn't the home-court advantage it used to be, with the Pistons going 0-5 SU/ATS the last five.

The Hornets began the season 1-12 SU on the road, but New Orleans has played better away from the Big Easy recently, going 3-1 SU/ATS. The Hornets have cleaned up against teams in Detroit's class, picking up victories over the Clippers, Wizards, and Nets. However, New Orleans has also knocked off Utah, Oklahoma City, Miami, and Houston in this stretch, as the Hornets are finally turning the corner in the Western Conference playoff race.

Heat at Rockets (-4 ?, 194) - 8:30 PM EST

Miami continues a six-game trip, as the Heat is done with games on the West Coast, heading to Houston. The Heat ended a two-game skid with a 115-102 victory at Golden State on Wednesday, the sixth straight game Miami has been listed as an underdog. Houston is coming off a thrilling triple-overtime home win over Minnesota, but the Rockets failed to cover as 9 ?-point 'chalk.'

The Heat is just 3-7 SU/ATS since November 25 off a victory, while going 2-4 SU/ATS the last six on the road. Miami is a solid 9-5 ATS as an underdog of six points or less, including a 5-2 ATS mark on the road.

The Rockets, despite the non-cover against the Wolves, are 7-1 ATS the last eight at the Toyota Center. Houston has struggled to cash recently, going 3-8 ATS the previous eleven games, but seven of those losses came on the road.

Houston has won five of the last six meetings in this series, including a pair of victories last season as favorites over Miami.

Magic at Blazers - 10:30 PM EST

Orlando limps into the Rose Garden off a 115-97 setback at Denver on Wednesday. The Magic has played each of the last three games without Vince Carter, who is nursing a shoulder injury. The Blazers have been very inconsistent as of late, going 4-4 SU and 3-5 ATS since a Christmas Night victory over the Nuggets.

Portland has fought hard despite numerous injuries this season, but may be without Brandon Roy against Orlando. The Blazers' star suffered a hamstring injury in Wednesday's blowout of the Bucks, and is listed as 'questionable' for Friday. The only game Portland has played without Roy was a 98-94 victory at San Antonio on December 23 as 12-point 'dogs.

The Magic are 2-7 ATS the last nine on the road, while dropping games to the Jazz, Suns, and Nuggets in this span. Orlando is 6-1 SU the last seven meetings against Portland, including a 92-83 victory over the Blazers at Amway Arena on December 19.

Bucks at Warriors (-4 ?, 216) - 10:30 PM EST

The last time Brandon Jennings faced Golden State, the rookie dropped a season-best 55 points on the Warriors in a 129-125 victory at the Bradley Center. That seemed like a long time ago, as the Bucks started the season 8-3 SU/ATS, but are 7-18 SU since November 23.

Milwaukee is 1-4 ATS and 0-5 SU the last five games as a road underdog, taking on a Golden State club coming off consecutive home losses to Cleveland and Miami. The Warriors are a profitable 7-3 ATS the last ten at Oracle Arena, while going 8-2 ATS the last ten overall.

Three of the previous four meetings in Oakland have finished 'under' the total, as the Warriors have easily covered as home favorites the last two meetings.

Are the Pistons this bad?

Are the Pistons this bad?

Are the Pistons this bad?

There was cause for celebration in Detroit on Tuesday night ? well, the celebrating more was in Washington, because that?s where the Pistons beat the Wizards 99-90 to end their 13-game losing streak (10 of them by double digits). That spared the current Pistons the ignominy of tying the franchise-record losing streak of 14 set twice. Maybe we shouldn?t read too much of it, however, as now a full 25 percent of Detroit?s wins this season have come against Washington.

Entering play Thursday, Detroit is last in the Central Division and has a better record than only the Nets, Warriors and Timberwolves. So on the surface, it appears that GM Joe Dumars? decision to trade Chauncey Billups early last year and use that cap room (off Allen Iverson?s contract) for Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva was a massive failure ? sort of like Dumars taking Darko Milicic over Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh, but that?s another story.

Villanueva has been a fairly decent-sized bust. He had 23 points and nine rebounds on 9-for-13 shooting in that win over Washington ? it was his first 20-plus-point game since Dec. 12, which was the date of Detroit?s last victory. Gordon, meanwhile, has been pretty solid when he plays. But he has played in only 25 games so far with various injuries.

But don?t bail yet on these Pistons. We?re not saying they will even make the playoffs, but they should start to become competitive because injuries are mostly to blame for where this team is. And this kind of thing does have a way of evening out (unless you are a Clippers top draft pick).

Villanueva is showing signs he's getting better, averaging 15.4 points over the last five, even with a four-point performance. Richard Hamilton is back after missing 25-plus games and Tayshaun Prince, who also has missed 25-plus, is slowly making his way back. Of course, now guard Will Bynum is hurt as well.

Reportedly the Pistons are trying to peddle either Hamilton or Prince for a big man, notably Utah?s Carlos Boozer. But the Jazz want nothing to do with contracts that last beyond this season. A big body would definitely help as this team is perimeter-heavy.

But the time is now for the Pistons to save their season and perhaps for bettors to make some money off of them. Eight of their next nine games, beginning Friday night against New Orleans, are at home. And Detroit is still only 4 ? games out of the final spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs, so the players still have plenty of motivation. Despite being horrible, Detroit is 16-20-1 ATS, which isn?t too bad considering. The Pistons are 8-9 at home (also ATS), meaning they should at least be able to win half their games on this big home run and be competitive in all of them. And they are likely to be dogs in several of the games, so the value should be there.

Of course, this being the Pistons, Gordon, Prince and Bynum all are questionable to dress versus the Hornets on Friday night.

Dumars might trade to fix Pistons

Dumars might trade to fix Pistons

Dumars might trade to fix Pistons

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -The Detroit Pistons might be making some changes.

Joe Dumars, the team's president of basketball operations, told The Associated Press on Thursday that he is looking for long-term solutions. The team might be active before next month's trade deadline.

Detroit was expected to endure a rebuilding season after dealing Chauncey Billups last season, then losing Rasheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess in free agency during the summer.

Few predicted the Pistons would be this bad. Detroit barely avoided a franchise-record losing streak and has lost twice as many games as its won (12-25).

Adding to the franchise's woes, it usually has thousands of empty seats for home games.

Friday's best NBA bets

Friday's best NBA bets

Friday's best NBA bets

Orlando Magic at Portland Trail Blazers (N/A)

Things are starting to get ugly in the Magic Kingdom.

After Orlando lost to the Denver Nuggets Wednesday night, the team?s fifth loss in the past seven games, the finger pointing began. Perhaps the biggest wagging sausage is directed at small forward Rashard Lewis.

Lewis has been almost invisible in recent games. He scored just six points on 3-of-9 shooting against the Nuggets, including going 0-for-3 from beyond the arc. Over the last seven contests, Lewis is averaging under 10 points per game ? scoring in single figures five times.

?Every night in order for me to have a good game I feel like I have to make every shot, every last one of them because I?m not getting very many of them,? Lewis told reporters. ?Not to blame it on me not getting shots because we?ve still got to play defense, but we?re just not getting in a good offensive rhythm as a team.?

Lewis isn?t solely to blame for the team?s troubles. In the loss to Denver, the Magic turned the ball over 19 times and gave up constant easy buckets to the Nuggets, who finished shooting nearly 56 percent from the field.

Orlando is 12-9 on the road this season and has covered in 10 of those 21 contests.

Pick: Trail Blazers

Los Angeles Clippers at Los Angeles Lakers (N/A)

No one can question Kobe Bryant?s heart after the scoring dynamo battled a broken finger and back spasms in recent games.

Bryant, who played despite an aching back, knocked down a game-winning shot for the Lakers in a 100-95 win over the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday. He took just one shot and played only 11 minutes in the first half but played the entire second half, scoring 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting.

?I asked Kobe before the game, ?Are you all right?? He said, ?No, I might not make it.? So everybody said, ?We?ve got to step it up.?,? Ron Artest told the Orange County Register.

?In the second half, I said, ?Are you OK?? And he said, ?Yeah, I?m good now.? But Dallas didn?t know that, so they played him 1-on-1 - and he hit that big shot.?

Bryant?s efforts have helped carry the Lakers during the absence of star forward Pau Gasol, who is questionable for Friday. His injury has also given Los Angeles a bit of value towards the line ? which is something Lakers bettors aren?t used to.

Bettors should expect some Kobe updates before tipoff Friday, but can be sure that No. 24 will put his body on the line again.

Pick: Lakers

Magic at Trail Blazers

Magic at Trail Blazers

Magic at Trail Blazers

Orlando Magic at Portland Trail Blazers (No current pointspread)

No Magic road

Last year the Orlando Magic were the second best road team in the NBA, finishing with a 27-14 straight up mark. No team had a better pointspread mark away from home.

The trend continued right though the playoffs. Despite two losses at the Staples Center in the NBA Finals, Orlando finished with six SU road wins in the postseason, tied with LA for most in the league.

The road hasn?t been as kind to the Magic in 2010. Orlando comes into its matchup against the Blazers having lost seven of its last nine road games following an early season string of eight straight road wins. Orlando was blown out in the second half at Denver on Wednesday night after getting outscored by 21 points in the second half.

Chemistry concerns

The Magic have a very different look right now compared to their Finals team from last June. Orlando GM Otis Smith spent the offseason wheeling and dealing, and the new faces aren?t gelling together just yet.

Hedo Turkoglu, Courtney Lee, Rafer Alston and Tony Battie all moved. Newcomers Vince Carter, Jason Williams, Matt Barnes, Ryan Anderson and Brandon Bass are still figuring out their places in Stan Van Gundy?s rotation, a situation made worse by a series of injuries.

?It?s a totally different team,? All-Star center Dwight Howard told reporters. ?You have a whole different starting lineup. There are three guys that were here last year in the starting lineup?. It just can?t happen overnight.?

The core group of Howard, Rashard Lewis, Vince Carter and Jameer Nelson have only played together in 10 of Orlando?s first 39 games. Carter isn?t likely to play Friday night because of lingering effects of a shoulder injury he suffered last week.

If Carter does suit up, the recent talk out of Orlando indicates that he?ll be coming off the bench for the first time in his long career.

Injury-riddled nightmare

The Magic have nothing to complain about when it comes to injuries if we compare them with the Blazers. No team in the NBA has suffered more injuries than Portland, and they just won?t stop.

The Blazers have been playing without Nicholas Batum, Travis Outlaw, Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla; a quartet that averaged more than 90 minutes per game for the team last year. Juwan Howard, who?s on the wrong side of 35, has been forced into the starting center role.

Portland just got Rudy Fernandez back after a month long absence in a 12 point win and cover against the Bucks on Wednesday. But in that same game, LaMarcus Aldridge rolled his ankle and is listed as probable for Friday night.

To make matters even worse for the Blazers, their All Star and leading scorer Brandon Roy underwent an MRI on Thursday after injuring his hamstring on Wednesday. The MRI revealed no structural damage, but Roy is still listed as doubtful, not expected to suit up against Orlando.

Without Roy in the lineup in the fourth quarter, Milwaukee cut a 30-point lead down to the 12-point final margin of victory.

Not so Rosey Garden

Portland is coming off its best shooting night of the season, hitting better than 60 percent from the floor against the Bucks on Wednesday. But those types of performances have been the exception, not the rule in 2010.

With one more loss at the Rose Garden the Blazers will eclipse their loss total at home from last year before the halfway point of the new campaign.

Portland has also struggled to beat the Magic in any venue. Orlando has won three straight at the Rose Garden, joining the Cavs as the only opposing team to own a three-game winning streak in Portland.

The Magic beat the Blazers 92-83 in Orlando last month, their sixth victory in the last seven meetings between these two squads.

San Antonio Spurs (24-13) at Charlotte Bobcats (17-19), 7 p

San Antonio Spurs (24-13) at Charlotte Bobcats (17-19), 7 p

Friday, January 15th (All times eastern)
San Antonio Spurs (24-13) at Charlotte Bobcats (17-19), 7 p.m.

With a refreshed Tim Duncan back ready to go, the San Antonio Spurs take aim at a fourth straight victory when they visit a Charlotte Bobcats team that's also playing very well of late tonight at Time Warner Cable Arena.

San Antonio was able to extend its current winning streak despite head coach Gregg Popovich's decision to rest Duncan in Wednesday's game at Oklahoma City. Rookie DeJuan Blair helped compensate for the perennial All-Star's absence with a monster night in which the former University of Pittsburgh star recorded career bests of 28 points and 21 rebounds.

The Spurs came through with a 109-108 overtime win on Richard Jefferson's go- ahead basket with 9.1 seconds left.

Trailing by a point, Jefferson blocked a shot from the Thunder's Thabo Sefolosha in the closing seconds and San Antonio's Manu Ginobili drove the lane before losing possession. However, the standout guard was able to prevent the ball from going out of bounds by making a diving stop and passed it to George Hill, who subsequently found Jefferson for the game-winning shot.

Either team could have won," Popovich told the Spurs' official site afterward. "We were very fortunate, Manu saved it for us. That was pure good fortune."

Tony Parker also scored 28 points for San Antonio and added eight assists, with Hill contributing 16 points to the winning effort.

The 33-year-old Duncan played 40 minutes in the Spurs' previous game, a 105-85 home rout of the reigning world champion Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, and amassed 25 points and 13 rebounds.

Tonight's tilt will be the second test of a four-game road trip for San Antonio, which is 7-7 as the visitor this season but has won five of its last six away from home.

The Spurs have also prevailed in all five of their lifetime meetings with the Bobcats in Charlotte and have taken the last six overall matchups between these teams. San Antonio cruised to a 104-85 home triumph over the Bobcats on December 11 behind a 22-point performance from Ginobili.

Charlotte has won its last five outings at Time Warner Arena, however, and are 14-4 at home so far this season. In addition, the team posted its fifth victory in its last six overall games with Tuesday's 102-94 verdict over visiting Houston.

Stephen Jackson fueled the win by pouring in a career-high 43 points, with the veteran swingman making good on 15-of-20 field goal attempts and 10-of-11 tries from the foul line.

"He was great," Bobcats head coach Larry Brown said of Jackson. "Every phase of the game, especially the second half. He defended, made plays. He was phenomenal."

Charlotte also got a well-rounded game from Boris Diaw, who compiled 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

The Bobcats are in the midst of a six-game homestand that began with Saturday's 89-87 win over Memphis.

Sacramento Kings (15-22) at Philadelphia 76ers (12-26), 7 p.m.

- The Sacramento Kings are expected to get their leading scorer back in the lineup when the team starts up a six-game road trip against Eastern Conference opponents with tonight's matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Kings have been without Kevin Martin since the season's fifth game due to a fractured left wrist that forced the sharp-shooting guard to undergo surgery on November 9. The sixth-year pro was medically cleared to play on Tuesday and has practiced without any restrictions in the days leading up to tonight's game.

Martin, who averaged a career-best 24.6 points during a 2008-09 campaign in which he also battled injuries, had gotten this season off to an excellent start. The 26-year-old averaged 30.2 points and 5.4 rebounds while making nearly 45 percent of his three-point attempts prior to getting hurt.

Sacramento actually hasn't fared all that badly in Martin's absence, with the club recording a 14-18 record in the 32 games he's missed. The emergence of Rookie of the Year candidate Tyreke Evans, a Philadelphia-area native who's averaged 20.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists this season, has helped the Kings offset that loss.

The team has dropped six of its last seven games, however, following Tuesday's 109-88 setback to visiting Orlando. Sacramento had a two-point lead on the Southeast Division-leading Magic after three quarters but was outscored by a lopsided 33-10 margin in the fourth.

"That fourth quarter put a damper on a game where we did so many good things against another top team in basketball," Kings head coach Paul Westphal remarked.

Evans led Sacramento with 18 points and Beno Udrih scored 15 in the loss. Rookie forward Omri Casspi recorded a double-double for the Kings, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Kings will also visit Washington, Charlotte, Atlanta, Orlando and Miami on this lengthy trek. The team has gone 6-6 against the East so far this season, but is a subpar 3-13 on the road.

Philadelphia will try to bounce back from a tough one-point loss to rival New York Wednesday at the Wachovia Center, with the Knicks coming away with a 93-92 decision on David Lee's tip-in with 14.9 seconds left.

The 76ers had a 90-86 lead after Rodney Carney's three-pointer with 1:30 to go, but New York answered with five straight points and moved in front on Lee's jumper with 43.9 ticks remaining. Marreese Speights responded with a basket that put Philadelphia back ahead with 26.9 seconds on the clock, but Lee's basket on the ensuing possession gave the Knicks a one-point edge once again.

Philadelphia had one final shot for the win, but Carney misfired on a three- point try as time expired.

"Seems like we did everything right until down the stretch," said Allen Iverson, who led the Sixers with 16 points. "We were right in the game (and) had every opportunity in the world to win the basketball game -- we just didn't do enough. And that's been the case most of this year."

Sixers center Samuel Dalembert, playing with the devastating earthquake in his native Haiti fresh in his mind, brought down a season-best 21 rebounds to go with 12 points.

Philadelphia had been vying for its first three-game winning streak of the season and was coming off a 96-92 victory over New Orleans on Monday in the opener of a homestand that concludes tonight.

The 76ers have won four straight meetings in this series, including a 116-106 triumph in Sacramento on December 30.

Phoenix Suns (24-15) at Atlanta Hawks (25-13), 8 p.m.

Phoenix Suns (24-15) at Atlanta Hawks (25-13), 8 p.m.

Phoenix Suns (24-15) at Atlanta Hawks (25-13), 8 p.m.

After opening up their current road trip with a frustrating loss, the Phoenix Suns will attempt to bounce back in tonight's showdown with the formidable Atlanta Hawks from Philips Arena.

Phoenix started up this four-game swing strongly, building a 24-point first- half lead in Wednesday's matchup at Indiana. The Pacers roared back after intermission, however, and rallied for a 122-114 decision behind a 33-point effort from Danny Granger.

"Indiana came out and played hard and we didn't quite match their effort in the second half," said Suns forward Amare Stoudemire, who led seven Phoenix players in double-figure scoring with 21 points. "They shot well from the outside and got a couple of offensive rebounds. It was a momentum changer."

Steve Nash ended with 20 points and nine assists in the loss despite playing with a cut lip that required seven stitches, the result of him taking an inadvertent elbow early in the contest.

Blowing leads has been a troubling occurrence for the Suns as of late. The team also wasted a 24-point advantage against Milwaukee on Monday, a game Phoenix regrouped to win by a 105-101 score. Three days earlier, the Suns failed to hold onto a 20-point cushion in a 109-105 home setback to Miami.

Phoenix will need to keep it up for four full quarters if it wants to come away with a win at Philips Arena, where the Hawks have amassed an excellent 15-4 record this season. Atlanta also enters tonight's tilt having prevailed in four of its last five overall games following Wednesday's 94-82 verdict over visiting Washington.

The Hawks shot just 32 percent in the first quarter, but opened up the second with a 23-5 run to build a commanding 40-18 lead with 3:43 remaining in the first half.

"I thought in the first quarter we were a little lethargic," said Atlanta's Jamal Crawford. "Both teams couldn't really get a rhythm."

Washington closed within 66-64 on Antawn Jamison's jumper to begin the fourth quarter, but the Hawks answered with an 8-2 flurry and held the Wizards off the rest of the way.

Joe Johnson scored 24 points to lead Atlanta, which also received 22 points out of Crawford and 16 points and eight rebounds from Marvin Williams.

Wednesday's win opened up a five-game homestand for the Hawks, who trail Orlando by only a half-game for first place in the Southeast Division. Atlanta will also face Oklahoma City, Sacramento and Charlotte on the residency.

Phoenix swept last season's home-and-home series between the teams and has won nine of its last 11 meetings with the Hawks. The Suns have also had great success when visiting Philips Arena, having left victorious in six of its last seven trips to Atlanta.

Washington Wizards (12-25) at Chicago Bulls (17-20), 8 p.m.

Washington Wizards (12-25) at Chicago Bulls (17-20), 8 p.m.

The Chicago Bulls hope to build on an impressive win in Boston last night when they play their last home game before a lengthy road trip Friday against the Washington Wizards.

The Bulls, who will embark on a grueling seven-game trek after tonight's contest, topped the C's when Luol Deng needed just 13 shots to score his game- high 25 points, and all five Chicago starters scored in double figures as the Bulls downed Boston, 96-83.

Since rumors of Vinny Del Negro's departure surfaced, the Bulls have rallied around their coach, winning seven of 10 in spirited fashion.

Joakim Noah posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in Beantown, Taj Gibson added 14 points and six boards, Derrick Rose had an all-around contest with 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists and Kirk Hinrich added 11 for Chicago.

"I thought we came out with good energy early, and we just kept attacking," said Del Negro. contest.

The Wizards, meanwhile, continue to struggle in the wake of the Gilbert Arenas controversy, dropping their third straight game in Atlanta on Wednesday.

Joe Johnson poured in 24 points and grabbed five rebounds in that one, as the Hawks held off Washington, 94-82.

Antawn Jamison ended with 25 points and 19 rebounds for the Wizards. Randy Foye finished with 18 points and eight assists. Caron Butler tallied 15 points and 11 boards, while Brendan Haywood added 13 and 10 for Washington, which shot just 35.8 percent from the field.

"For some reason the ball just wasn't going in for us. But we didn't stop playing. We continued to plug away. We pretty much made a game out of it," Jamison said.

The Wizards remain without Arenas, who's serving an indefinite league suspension for his behavior related to a well-publicized incident in which the sharp-shooting guard was found with firearms in the team's locker room.

Arenas is scheduled to appear in court Friday to answer a felony charge of carrying a pistol without a license, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison. The charge was filed Thursday in D.C. Superior Court in an "information," a document that likely means Arenas has reached some kind of plea deal with prosecutors.

This is the first meeting between the two clubs this season. Chicago took three of four from the Wizards last year.

New Orleans Hornets (20-17) at Detroit Pistons (12-25), 8 p.m.

The Detroit Pistons hope to build on their first win in a month Friday when they play host to the New Orleans Hornets at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Charlie Villanueva scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds on Tuesday as the Pistons avoided matching the longest losing streak in franchise history with a 99-90 triumph over the hapless Wizards.

Detroit had lost 13 straight since defeating the Golden State Warriors, 104-95, on December 12.

Efforts by Richard Hamilton and Rodney Stuckey, who each logged 19 points, helped avoid equaling the Pistons' 14-game skid set nearly 30 years ago, May 7-30, 1980. Stuckey also tied his career-high with 11 assists.

"We just had to get off that slide and put us in the right direction," Pistons head coach John Kuester said. "The players have persevered this whole time. They're the ones that deserve it."

The Hornets, meanwhile, won for the seventh time in eight tries Wednesday when Emeka Okafor led all scorers with 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds as New Orleans claimed a 108-94 win over the Los Angeles Clippers in the Big Easy.

Peja Stojakovic recorded 20 points and Chris Paul turned in a solid game with 15 points and 15 assists for New Orleans, which regrouped after having its six-game winning streak snapped with a 96-92 loss at Philadelphia on Monday.

"It helped to get a game with a little bit of cushion in it, because we only had a two point lead at the half," Hornets head coach Jeff Bower said. "For the most part we got the types of shots we were looking for. We didn't knock them all down, but we stayed at it."

The Hornets, who are just 5-14 on the road this season, have won three straight over the Pistons, including a 95-87 win in New Orleans on Dec. 16.

The Pistons, meanwhile, are suffering through their longest drought at home in years. Detroit has dropped five consecutive games at The Palace, its most since an eight-game skid from Dec. 30, 2000-Feb. 2, 2001.

Minnesota Timberwolves (8-32) at Memphis Grizzlies (19-18), 8 p.m.

The Memphis Grizzlies shoot for a franchise-record tying seventh straight home win Friday when they host the hapless Minnesota Timberwolves at FedEx Forum.

The Grizzlies needed a little help from the fire marshall Tuesday to keep their streak intact. Marc Gasol scored 24 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, and Memphis used a fire alarm evacuation to spark the team to a 104-102 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

With 47.8 seconds left in the third quarter and the Grizzlies trailing, 89-77, a broken water pipe triggered the fire alarm, forcing everybody to evacuate the building. After a 36 minute delay, the teams returned to the court, and Memphis outscored the Clippers, 27-13, for the rest of the game to come back and take the win.

"During the third quarter of tonight's Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers game there was water line break in the fire sprinkler system at FedExForum in a non-public area that triggered our alarm system," said Greg Campbell, Grizzlies president of business operations. "Everyone, including players, coaches, staff and fans were immediately evacuated safely per FedExForum Public Safety Policy. At approximately 9:53 p.m. (et) everyone was instructed to evacuate FedExForum, and by 10:10 p.m. (et) all parties were allowed to re-enter the building."

Rudy Gay added 24 points for Memphis, which has won nine of 12 and shot 11- of-23 following the delay. Zach Randolph contributed 20 points and eight rebounds, O.J. Mayo had 15 points and Mike Conley 13 in the victory.

"They came out hard but we just had to keep playing harder, keep getting stops, and that's what we did towards the end," Randolph said.

The Grizz, who are 12-5 as the host this season, won seven straight at home from Jan. 2-25, 2004.

The Wolves, meanwhile, fell to 0-3 on a four-game road trip after a torturous triple-overtime loss in Houston on Wednesday in the longest game in franchise history.

Corey Brewer set off the fireworks by tying the game in regulation on a half- court shot at the buzzer, but Minnesota couldn't overcome Aaron Brooks, who had a career-high 43 points in 59 minutes on the court, as the Rockets survived the thriller to take a 120-114 victory at the Toyota Center.

Brooks scored 14 of his points in the overtime sessions and ended 6-of-9 from three-point range as Houston notched a season-high eighth straight home win and beat the Timberwolves for a 10th consecutive time.

Al Jefferson posted 26 points and a career and franchise-high 26 rebounds for the T'Wolves, who have lost five straight on the road and eight of their last nine games overall.

Ryan Gomes had 18 points, Wayne Ellington 17 and Corey Brewer 14 as Minnesota dropped its seventh straight game in Houston.

"It's just a great example for our guys that you just don't quit, you just keep playing, keep your heads up, keep fighting and you never know what's going to happen," said T'Wolves head coach Kurt Rambis of his 8-32 team.

Minnesota swept the three-game season series last season but Memphis has rebounded to take two from the Wolves this year.

Indiana Pacers (13-25) at New Jersey Nets (3-35), 8 p.m.

Indiana Pacers (13-25) at New Jersey Nets (3-35), 8 p.m.

The Indiana Pacers will be out to halt a string of nine straight road losses in tonight's clash with a hapless New Jersey Nets team trying to break out of a six-game losing streak.

Indiana hasn't won in an opposing venue since a 114-113 decision at Washington on December 12, but will be entering the IZOD Center tonight off back-to-back home victories over Toronto and Phoenix. On Wednesday, Danny Granger poured in a game-high 33 points and Mike Dunleavy added 30 off the bench to lead the Pacers to a 122-114 come-from-behind triumph over the Suns.

The Pacers trailed by as many as 24 points in the first half but came storming back in the third quarter. Dunleavy scored 13 points during an 18-9 run to start the second half, and Granger later made consecutive three-pointers in the final minute of the period to give Indiana a 91-89 edge.

The game was tied at 110-110 with under four minutes to play, but the Pacers scored 12 of the next 16 points to move ahead for good.

"The second half turned things around for us," Granger said. "We just didn't have it or didn't figure it out in the first half. In the second half, we went small, got after the ball a little more, spread the floor a little more and it really helped by having veterans out there together."

Indiana will try to keep up its recent winning ways when it takes on a Nets squad that a league-worst 3-35 on the season and has lost twice to the Pacers earlier this season, including a 91-83 setback at the IZOD Center on November 17. Indiana has won five of the last six meetings in this series.

New Jersey hasn't won since a 104-95 verdict over the New York Knicks on December 30 and was handed its 16th loss in its last 17 outings with Wednesday's 111-87 shellacking at the hands of Atlantic Division leader Boston.

The Celtics quickly opened up an 18-point lead late in the first quarter and took a commanding 71-35 advantage at halftime en route to the easy win. Boston shot a sizzling 53.1 percent from the field for the game.

"We didn't take a stand on the defensive end," said Nets guard Devin Harris. "To give up 70 points in a half, it's tough to win any game."

Yi Jianlian led New Jersey with 19 points, while Brook Lopez finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds in a losing cause. Harris, who had missed the Nets' previous contest with a wrist problem, scored 15 points on the night.

New Jersey, which is just 2-16 at home for the season, will embark on a four- game road trip that begins Monday against the Los Angeles Clippers following tonight's matchup.
