- - It's accurate to say that I've been tracking this play for 364 days, and everything is right about it, including the opponent . . . While everyone was focusing on the Texans for passing on Vince Young and Reggie Bush before drafting DE Mario Williams - and it's probably wise to still withhold the final grade on that move - everything else I've read and followed from the beginning about when HC Gary Kubiak was hired has impressed me as good football and shrewd management, the foundation for some nice possibilities if maybe not quite yet some Texas-sized optimism. Going into the opener last season, I really wanted to take the Texans out of the gate, but I fortunately realized they weren't ready for Philadelphia, and I'd bide my time until my hunches were manifested on the field. It's a fact that the Texans turned a corner last year when it comes to being pushed around, and accordingly I did an OK job of picking my spots with them down the stretch. Then followed an off season, training camp and exhibition season that have all hinted that my initial suspicions have been correct, and nicely under the radar to boot, as they prepare to get after it for real . . . It's accurate to say that I've been tracking this play for 364 days, and everything is right about it, including the opponent.

- - HC Petrino makes his debut with a live dog. Overheard elsewhere: "a seriously motivated team that can?t wait to get the season started so don?t be surprised to see them come out hungrier then a pack of pit-bulls . . . Petrino has done a masterful job throwing a cocoon around the team amidst the turbulence caused by Vick . . . Besides, who the hell are the Vikings? . . . they have way more questions then answers."

I was all over New England(-6) and what the Jets had in store for them. San Diego(Un24) team total jumped off the page based on how I knew the Bears defense would play. I told myself not to make another play and just stand on my big play. Instead, I get cute and let Atlanta fill out my card . . . Four mistakes rolled up in a single play/post.

Chicago(-12) over Kansas City (1.5*)
- - If KC wins a single matchup out of 22+ it will be lost in the flood.

Tick, tick, tick on San Francisco(-3).

- - A big spot with real edges means an engraved invitation for a nothing team to puke all over themselves, so I've got that to look forward to; and pick the winner on MNF, that's a rich one, too.
