The Red Wings stayed overnight in Los Angeles and flew home Sunday, a move that gives them more energy in their first game back from a West Coast trip.

A situation like this is when depth helps.

?We need all four lines contributing in some way, whether it?s putting the puck in the net or creating energy, and we?re getting that from everybody,? Stuart said. ?We don?t have to rely on two or three guys to put the puck in the net. We have good enough depth up front that we can spread it out a bit.?

Said forward Todd Bertuzzi: ?Any given night a line can easily carry the team and get 2-3 goals. That?s what we?ve been doing up to now. We?re going to need that for sure (tonight).?

The Sharks won?t have to deal with jet lag. They arrived in Detroit on Saturday night after losing 3-1 in Montreal on Saturday afternoon.

?It?s always tough, but a little mental toughness won?t kill anybody,? Babcock said of the quick turnaround for his club.

Because the Red Wings have played the fewest games in the NHL, their schedule will be busier this month. Howard will be back in net tonight when the Red Wings host the San Jose Sharks. Osgood?s next start probably will be one of the weekend games, Friday at home against Montreal or, more likely, Saturday in New Jersey.
