Fellow MJ'ers...

We are just a little over two weeks away from the Madness!!! I will be heading to Nevada for the Wednesday through Sunday games, can not wait!!!!

I thought I would start this thread as an open conversation for anyone to chip in on anything they think about the tournament. What teams you liking? What teams are going to get in that shouldn't, etc. etc. I know more will become clear once Selection Sunday gets here, but my thinking is it's not too early to start discussing.
.
I'll start.....

First off, Syracuse getting in to me is a joke. They have, what, 1 road win. They can't win away from home, and I feel if they get in, they'll be a one and done.

I really like Wichita State and Butler to make some noise. Wichita State doesn't have a great SOS and the MVC is just them and Illinois State, but Wichita State with HC Marshall has been here before. Them not making it will be a travesty. Speaking of experience, Butler program has it as well. A superb team in my eyes. They just knocked off Nova on their homecourt, wow. Bulldogs will make another run.

Baylor trending down, big time, in my eyes. West VA, I don't know about them, hit and miss. KU, I'd say, will definitely make it to the Final Four, but I don't think they have enough inside game to win it all.

A couple other low profile teams I've been recognizing recently are Bucknell and Nevada. I hope they both win their conferences and make it in. I will be betting them both on the spread no matter what it is and who they are playing. Those two teams can score!

Kentucky, I feel probably won't make it past the sweet 16. They are too young. They were really good early on, but like Baylor, seem to be trending the wrong way. I think Florida will make it farther.

Speaking of teams trending down, what in the world has happened to Wisconsin?! I know Koenig is hobbled, but wow, they have digressed. I don't see any team in the Big 10 making it to the Elite 8.

Pac 12 is a crapshoot. I think UCLA makes it the farthest, to the Final 4. Arizona and Oregon to the Elite 8.

ACC is North Carolina, Louisville, and Florida State and that's it to me. UVA trending the wrong way. Miami nothing special. UNC probably makes the Final 4, maybe even the Championship game. Louisville and FSU to the Elite 8.

Gonzaga suffered their first loss this past weekend, but I still like them to make it to the Final 4. This team is solid inside and out, and very athletic. St. Mary's could make it to the Sweet 16.

Please feel free to add anything to this thread about what you think! It'll be fun to look back at in a month and see how we did!

GL!

Another couple teams I forgot to mention that I will be betting on if they make it in:

Middle Tennessee State (they have the 3rd most ROAD wins in the NCAA)

I don't see it happening with Wichita State, and like you said, that's IF they get in.....

Final Four?
Looking at Gonzaga and Arizona depending on bracket placement. A #1 seed out West for Gonzaga might be all they need to get over the hump.
Kansas playing through Tulsa and Kansas City might be enough of a travel/home court edge for an already good but dysfunctional squad.

Lets see what the bracket brings......

To me ucla, unc and kansas are the best teams. I like ucla to win it. Depending on the matchups i think uk can make a lot of noise. I am a homer. I dont like the way they are playing right now but i have seen this before from the cal product and they end up in the final four. I really really really like okl st as a sleeper and think they could go very far. Wvu and cinci i think are dangerous. I am not sure why but i dont give nova much credit and really forget about them. I think it is because i never watch their games. The bracket should be interesting as there are a lot of good teams.

The First State
The Cuse is 3-1 vs top 10 competition this year though............. yea they can play an ugly game, and if they don't hit their "3's", could be 1 an done but they are shooting their FT's much better this year, and opposing teams won't be comfortable putting them on the line as has been the case in past.

Mid Tenn State is gonna be a pain in the ass to play certainly, but they will not be sneaking up on anybody after last year.

Maybe a Illinois State team surprises this year.....Hangin in the weeds...... 25-5 ( 7-4 last 11) 1-1 vs. Wichita State
or UNC Willmington, Monmouth, St. Mary's Gaels (2 of 3 losses have been to Zaga) or Belmont( no stranger to the dance), Nevada, or the Zips for that matter?????

Zaga.... one of my tourney favs most years goin back to Morrison but the thing that scares me is that they really haven't played anyone nor have they gone thru a period of adversity that they had to come out from.
The Polish Kid is fun to watch no doubt but if the refs call his game tight and he has to spend extra time on the bench due to early foul trouble....... this will be a problem. I could be guilty of overthinking this, and if I am, so be it.
I just don't see them as strong as most people think.
