Bestbettor is one of the better handicapping tools around for me, so I've decided to expand my usage of it for 2004. I am going to track as many plays as possible on Best Bettor(www.bestbettor.com) this year. Now, of course mirrormy plays on Best Bettor won't exactly match my actual results, but it is a good way to give readers of my Free Picks page a good all-in-one reference to both my past results and my current plays. I will continue to post plays on my page, but this will give a more detailed tracking of my results.

The rules I follow will remain the same. I have a maximum exposure of 500 per day and if I get up or down 1000 for the week, I quit for that week. I have been using this strategy for the past 13+ weeks and I had 10 winning weeks, 3 losing weeks for +2460 over that period. This week I am -270 coming into today, so if my maximum on best bettor this week will be either -730 or +1270.

My reason for choosing these rules is that I feel that 500 per day in exposure is a reasonable amount for many gamblers. For those that play lower or higher than that, it at least gives a base line to relate my play amounts to their play amounts if they choose to follow my plays (which is, after all, the supposed purpose of a Free Picks page, anyway).

As always, any questions about this or about handicapping in general will be answered to the best of my ability either by replying in this thread or emailing me at nick_douglas@mac.com. I know that a lot of people looking to start up services try to get people to email them off these forums, but trust me, my motivation here is simply to enjoy handicapping games and talk handicapping with others.

Nick,

I find your strategy very interesting, and while I am not saying you are right or wrong, let me put the follwing scenario to you. My sport is rugby, but I will transfer a situation to you using American sports.

Ok your main sport (higher profit %) is NHL. There are NHL games taking place on Thursday and Friday night only that week, and yet in the lead up to Thursday, you make your weekly limit betting other sports e.g NCAA Football, Soccer etc etc You see a line that you really like in the NHL matches on the Friday night, but you resist playing.

Does this make sense?? Should you noy bet every bet on its merits. For example, there may be only three good bets in one week, but there may be ten good bets the following week.

Would be interested to read your take on this.

The weekend of 1/10 & 1/11 I will basically be in Chesapeake with nothing to do. Obviously it would be great if you guys could come down but if not I will try to get a car rental and make the drive. How far is it?

Chanman,

To be honest, it really doesn't make sense. It is just a way to discipline myself. Fletcher kind of turned me on to it. I used to argue with him back and forth saying that as long as a play was strong, I should play it no matter how far up or down I am on the week. The problem with that was that I found myself getting too greedy in weeks where I did well and playing too many plays to try to make money back on weeks where I was losing. So far it has worked out well. There are those weeks where I pack it in by Wednesday and then I see strong plays on Saturday or Sunday. Sometimes I even break my rules and play them. For the most part, though, I keep my discipline pretty well and the results have been good. As always, I'm still learning so this may only last another six months or it may keep going for years.

I realise that Fletcher uses a similar strategy with his service. I am not saying it is either right or wrong, but was interested in your thoughts.

Oh and by the way......I am not Chanman  :tongue
