Tropical storm DEAN...

It is never fun living inside the dreaded CONE OF UNCERTAINTY(which I do for Dean right now,Galveston).
I just hope FEMA does the right thing for me when I need it if you know what I mean.
My friend in GulfPort lost part of his roof.
He got estimates in the 15K range to fix it.
FEMA gave him 28K for his troubles.
I am afraid Katrina has ruined gov't aid.

I cant stand some of these insurance companies. One of my relatives lives on a fairly high ridge, roof was torn off, ruined everything inside, and insurance denied their claim and said it was due to damage caused by rain/water from flooding. F-ing FLOODING and they live on a ridge! Go figure that one out!

Most of the hurricane models show this storm going into about brownsville, but two models at work show this thing possibly turning and heading towards lousinana and texas. One was right towards Houston the other west of New Orleans. We will see as this thing gets closer, but the steering flow as of now I think has this thing heading towards the border. If the high in the eastern part of the US moves changes and that flow changes this thing could easily take a turn after the Yucatan. The model that has been the most accurate over the years is the one that has this thing in Louisiana.

The ironic thing about the past few days(Erin) was the center went over Corpus and they had little to no damages.
Houston,Austin,and SA suffered much more in way of flooding(the dirty side as they call it). Areas around Austin and SA dont need anymore rain. It is like the levies broke and they dont even have any.

What I don't understand is that the Mexican Gov't can rebuild it's whole coastline of resorts in 3 months. Katrina parked herself over the Yucatan for 3 days! It abosutly desomated the area for 75 miles. They were back to normal after just a few months, I know because we go to this area every year and you couldn't tell of any destruction. I know it is a resort area but how do they get things going faster than around here. There are still areas of NO that are still devasted???

yea, those bands can bring more havoc at times than the eye (center)

Read a story about the truckloads of ice that got sent down to NO after Katrina. I guess it made several trips around the country and after 2 years it got sent back and got scrapped. Just poor gov't leadership!! :shrug:

That sucks, I've lived thru two direct hit tornado's
in Oklahoma and I can't imagine that type of wind
lasting more than 10 minutes, much less the surge
of water. Mother Nature can be brutal. :mj09:

Thank you all for your prayers, concerns and well wishes.
We fortunately dodged the eye as it stayed south of us. The island currently has no power or water however the offices are running on generators and water tanks so we're ok. The internet, phones and payouts operating at 100%. No serious injuries so we are blessed and happy to be here.

Cabo is on the Pacific side. They may get some rain but nothing big!
