Wtf is he even talking about? Supreme court settled this 25+ years ago. Flag burning laws are unconstitutional. Is flag burning a problem? Is it an issue people even care about?

He is clueless about the law. But what really worries me is how authoritarian he is. Presidential degrees by tweet, the devolution of this country into social media and reality TV continues.
Rubs this freedom lover the wrong way.

Yes, there is that. But there are also a few proposed "alterations" to certain policies that, if enacted, could have a tremendous negative impact on many of those that voted him in hoping for change and an uplift in social and economic standing. Talk about irony.

I guess we shall see.

Peace! :)

I'm not saying a president has to be a lawyer or have an intricate mastery of the laws and constitution, but when the president elect talks, on "social media" no less, about revoking citizenship for something the US Supreme Court has said CANNOT be against the law it forces me to conclude he doesn't have a clue what he is doing.
We don't revoke the citizenship of serial killers, child molesters or pretty much anyone.

I don't know why, but this issue has me convinced we are in for a shit show. 4 years of a teenage girl level of social media attention whoring, just saying whatever comes to mind.

Someone please convince me otherwise.

So burn a flag in protest, or accidentally? and have your citizenship revoked and kicked out of the country?

Burning a piece of fabric, your free speech right according to the Supreme Court should be punished more seriously than almost any other crime on the books?

I'm not sure the Constitution allows for this at all. Committing a crime, internet gambling, prostitution, even murder, can't cost you your citizenship.

I guess agree to disagree

Stiff fine would be ok with me. A year in jail or citizenship revoked is a little much on second thought, I think he is just trying to say It's blatant disrespect to burn a US flag and there need to be consequences

Freedom of speech means you might see or hear things you don't like. Like making unproven comments on twitter about a million illegals voting.

Isn't Trump allowed his own freedom of speech. After all he's defending our national symbol and a little respect for our country is long overdue. If you don't like it ....leave.

No.

So trump is allowed to discuss shitting on the constitution, but if someone disagrees with it they should leave?

For the last 8 years the right has bitched that Obama was going to do away with the second amendment and guess what, it never happened. Now we have trump actually talking about going against the constitution and he gets questioned about it and now we all have to leave?

You can fuck right off with that.

Again, freedom of speech means that you might get disprespected too. Of course rules are different on private property or personal owned domains such as Jack's site. Twitter has every right to ban Donald Trump himself but I doubt they would nor would I. Let himself look foolish.

So you endorse shitting on our nation and it's flag if you want to? Trump believes it should be shown some respect. I can get behind that.

It's a small government issue imo. I just don't think we need police breaking doors down and jailing people over issues that harm nobody.
I'm sorry, but hurting someone else's feelings should not be a crime. Strikes me as PC bullshit.

I endorse people having the freedom/right to do such a thing if they want.

I don't get all worked up about symbols.

Why should anyone approve of this?

There are plenty of things I don't approve of that I don't think should be against the law.
I just don't understand why everyone is so fragile/sensitive about a piece of cloth. If people want to hate the country or hate the government, go for it. I can take it. Doesn't effect me at all.

Go back as listen to the speech HRC gave a few years ago where she said the same thing Trump said.
