A family member of mine is an accountant for a large # of people who fall in that income range. Trust me - from what they have relayed to me - the question is - where are the tax bracket income levels and what can I do to drop down a rung.

For the people barely into that bracket, they want to drop.

Ah yes, but I'll wager they do not want less income, they just want to find the deductions, write-offs and loopholes which allow them to pay less tax.

Surely no one has said: "I want to make $100K less so I can save $35K on taxes. Please Mr. Accountant, teach me how to make less money."

Sorry SSD, but your argument is silly.

no - they want to make less money and drop to a lower bracket. Period. Those near the line will do it.

Aw....c'mon. I know you're not a dummy, so stop saying dumb things. Here: Take the 28% tax bracket which is imposed on all taxable income from $82,401 ? $171,850. Increasing income to $171,851 imposes the next higher bracket of 33% on only that one dollar.

Or stated the other way, reducing income from $171,851 to $171,850 reduces the total tax owed by 33 cents. It has no effect on the rate for the first $171,850.

I'll give you the benefit of doubt for now and assume that you've been distracted or under the influence of recreational chemicals, but if you continue to misunderstand this simple idea, I'll have to conclude you're as dumb as Maggot.
