If Minny U hoo hires Shaka because the AD had a relationship with him, it would be a huge mistake imho.

Minnesota thrived on years after years of going after homegrown talent, Kevin McHale, Randy Breuer, etc., down the line, but kids are going where their is an opportunity to play, get recognized, seen on tv, etc. Shaka will not get kids from Minnesota unless he can talk to Prince, j/k, but Shaka had his success, he thrived off of what Grant built for VCU and this year his club wasn't that good, the only hurt his program put on anyone was an ill Akron squad, they didn't get better, they stayed the same the last 2 yrs.

But hey, everyone has an opinion!

Flip Saunders relating to HS kids and their parents? I doubt it will be that easy of a transition after being in the NBA, it's not that simple, just ask Sidney Lowe.

Fred Hoiberg took over a program at ISU and he's down home and down to earth with kids, that is the type of coach Minny U hoo needs, but I doubt the BOD at ISU is gonna let him get away without a large buyout.

Later!!

Tubby's teams were 15-29 in February. His teams never finished higher than sixth in the Big Ten. And these late-season swoons have been nothing new. The team has often started well (i.e. before the Big 10 schedule), and never finished. He was consistently outcoached by other Big 10 and other coaches during games. He recruited the same types of players - many who were not well-suited for the type of offense he wanted to run (whatever that was). This year you see two former players who transferred doing well with other programs. The same things happened year after year, and nothing ever changed. If never finishing higher than 6th in your conference is good enough for the rest of you guys - so be it. It's certainly worth trying something else IMO - as you really lose nothing. What's the worry - you might finish below 6th in the conference and never advance in the Big Dance?

The new AD has a different outlook than the old one. I'm guessing he has someone in mind, and probably more than one person. And that coach is probably a pretty good option, I would guess. Moving to the Big 10 is a pretty good resume builder for many coaches.

There is plenty of very good basketball talent in Minnesota. There is currently a guard at Apple Valley here that is one of the top point guard prospects in the country as a Junior. He's already received offers from Duke, Ohio State, Michigan State and others. There are others playing all across the country, some here at the U. They need to upgrade the facilities, yes. But they had wonderful athletes this year. They just did not get the job done, once again.

Accepting second-tier status year after year in a conference is not the attitude you should just accept. You should try to make something happen, after years of history prove what you know will keep happening.

This, I think it has to be Saunders, Comparing Sydney Lowe to Flip Saunders is like comparing tube steak to filet minogn. As far as Hoiberg, he would be a great hire but there is absolutely no reason for him to leave and go to Minnesota. I understand all the points.
